April & Colby were great hosts. They were so accommodating and friendly. The property is beautiful and quiet. The cabin is temperature controlled, clean, and comfortable. My family spent the days walking around Sisters and the nights snuggled up in bed. We will definitely return.

We loved staying at Ruby's Cabin, best cabin hands down I've ever stayed at! It had all the amenities you could think of to help make your stay the best it could possibly be. We visited during the winter time in February and even though it was cold outside we stayed nice and warm in the cabin with the wood stove. We cannot wait to come back here in the summer time!

3 nights at Rags To Rescues Sanctuary

What an absolute gem!!! Bonnie was an amazing host and the bunkhouse was perfect! The sanctuary is a beautiful, peaceful place to heal and unwind and use as a launching spot for adventures. Being away from everything but also so close was absolutely perfect. I simultaneously want to tell everyone about this magical place and keep it all to myself! 10/10 would recommend!

The site was clean and easy to back my 24' trailer into. The location in convenient to most all things Bend. Bathroom was clean, dog park was clean, it is a nice place to camp in downtown (nearly) Bend.

2 nights at STEEP DREAMS

STEEPdreams was the perfect weekend winter getaway. We had wanted to go camping but we were having difficulty in mustering up the courage with the 20 degree weather. Colby & April's place stood out to us because it had these big beautiful windows that faced a gorgeous view. The cabin was immaculately built and properly equipped with an insanely comfy bed, mini fridge, TV, and a gorgeous tiled shower. There were also cute kitties around the property that we watched hunt and play with each other. C&A also have the absolute sweetest love bug of a pup named Timber! My goodness such a sweetheart. We super appreciate them being open to us bringing our pup along too, since there's not many places that allow you to do so. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a true glamping experience. I will now be day dreaming about that view until the next time I get to visit STEEPdreams :)

Awesome city camping! It's so close to everything in Bend and bathrooms are super clean. Loved the convenience, safety, and cleanliness.

3 nights at Ruby’s Cabin

The hosts exceeded all expectations. We overpacked, unknowingly. My partner also says he still can't believe how perfect it was. Dont change a thing! We saw the Salmon Creek falls despite the weather mid December. The woodstove does the job in keeping things toasty. The outside kitchen has all the cookware you're going to need. The outhouse is so nice and has a great handwashing station. The cabin is stocked with first aid, extra blankets, kids toys, alcohol markers, crayons, color pencils, board games, etc. Outside there is croquet, bocce balls, giant jenga, a Whipple ball, a fire pit... I can't name everything and how great this place was. Not to mention the DETAILS... the art work, the craftsmanship of the cabin itself. 11/10. Can't wait to come back this summer!

Absolutely lovely getaway to an amazing property and location! Beautiful and inspiring off grid space done very well. Myself and 3 old dogs found comfort just relaxing, enjoying the outdoor kitchen, and having access to their trails for adventuring. Lovely, welcoming, and generous hosts. Enjoyed a viewing of the local elk herd on the final morning! Will be back for sure! Take care and thanks for having us!

It has allowed us the opportunity to enjoy everything Central Oregon has to offer and we hope you too can experience and enjoy it as much as we do. It's all about making memories. It's also perfect for Fall/Winter fun and avoiding the summer crowds. Simply stay on our 5 acre property with complete hook ups if you're looking to avoid the bustle of downtown and it's hotel prices! Our property is about 5 acres and tent spots are first come first serve with about 1 acre being closer to our house with shady grassy areas. The other 4 acres are in the pasture and mostly unshaded. Pitch a tent out in the pasture, near the canal that runs through the property. We are a perfect location to the fairgrounds for the Farewell Festival and all Bend festivals throughout the year. We are 4 miles to the festival sights in Redmond and 20 min to Bend. We offer shuttle rides to and from the festivities so just enjoy the ride, enjoy the show and come home for a relaxing evening under the stars. If coming for The Farewell Festival we offer the purchase of a weekend shuttle pass to and from the fairgrounds for the weekend so you can enjoy your time and not spend it stuck trying to get out of the parking lot!! Camping in Wickiup Reservoir with showers guide

Overview

Not far from the town of La Pine in the Central Oregon high desert, Wickiup Reservoir is a well-known spot for cooling off in the oftentimes sweltering summer months. Both non-motorized and motorized boats are allowed here, and there are multiple boat launches, with two at the two lakeside campgrounds and a third on the reservoir’s eastern banks. Wickiup Reservoir is also a popular spot for both birdwatching and fishing, particularly if you're hoping to catch a large brown trout. While many people fish directly from their boats, shore fishing is an option earlier in the season.

Notable campgrounds

Best for groups: Gull Point Campground has two group campsites for up to 30 people.
Best for anglers: Reservoir Campground offers direct access to the water.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations for the can be made directly through the Forest Service, either online using recreation.gov or over the phone. Campsites open up for reservation six months in advance, at 6 am.
The peak season runs from the end of May until the end of September. Outside of that time, campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you can’t find a spot at Wickiup, note that there are still tons of places to camp in the area, both in nearby state parks, on BLM land, and at privately run Hipcamps.

When to go

The best time to visit Wickiup Reservoir is in late spring or early autumn, when the weather is warm and dry and the crowds are fewer. July and August are also great months if you like warm weather, but the reservoir and area campgrounds can get very busy with summer vacationers. Accessing the area during the cold winter months can be challenging due to heavy snowfall.

Know before you go

The easiest place to pick up groceries and other supplies is the town of La Pine, about a half-hour drive from the reservoir.
Do not enter the water during cyanobacteria (harmful algae) blooms. The forest service puts out alerts about blooms, but it's always a good idea to do a visual check just in case. Water that looks foamy or thick and is a green, blue, or brownish-read color should be avoided.
Forest fires are an issue in this part of the forest, and bans on fires and even some types of cooking devices are not uncommon. Check before igniting anything.
