Honest solo traveler review: DD’s little piece of paradise is a perfect place to rest your head! I’m so lucky to have found this beautiful and safe place to set up camp - the view in the morning was absolutely spectacular! Her spot isn’t too far from a gas station, a pub and has service!!! Really enjoyed my stay at Deidra’s HIPCAMP spot right on the river. Loved hearing the river as I fell asleep. It was within a short walk to the small downtown area. We arrived around 7 on a Friday due to heavy traffic. Quick check in, we had reserved site 5 but they had several vacancies and suggested a better spot, so we took 14 instead. It was lovely! Up a small hill to the river, where we played fisher people and caught an orange leaf. Dog chased ball in the field, bathroom facilities are decent. It’s a scenic 30-40 minute drive into town.

Rustic glamping at its best! A bit off the beaten path but interestingly tucked into a small town, the bunkhouse is thoughtfully stocked with essentials. We loved getting the camping vibe (no indoor plumbing) but not having to haul all the extra gear! Cowboy bunkhouse 2 has enough sleeping room for 3 average sized people- thankfully our kids are small enough to both fit on the sofa bed. Wonderful stay at Kristie’s!

The camp is exactly what they say it is: Primitive. Not dry camping, tho. Flush toilets and showers are located near the entrance, and appear to be near new construction and are kept clean and stocked. Individual sites are rather large. Water spigots are located around the park. The price per night is fair. We enjoyed the ripe blackberries that were in season and many of the sites are right on the Smith River. With only one location for showers and toilets near the entrance, it can be a hike to get to them from the far end. Maybe 200 yards from the furthest sites, so pay attention to the map. It seems only certain sites are available on HipCamp, as only 8 or so were listed as available to us, but there were many, many more vacancies during our stay. A few pull thru's are available. The site competes with two BLM free, first come, first serve dry campsites that seem to draw more campers. But, the showers, flush toilets and water for us tent campers was worth the price. The camp host, who was not Jared, was very friendly and helpful. We both agreed it the right choice for us, and would stay there again.

We loved staying in the cowboy cabin! It was perfect for our little family for the weekend. The bed is very comfortable with plenty of bedding, the ac was a great feature, and our kids appreciated being able to watch tv after a long day! The Cottage Grove area is known for its covered bridges, mining history, and the scenic Row River Trail bike path. Film buffs may recognize local spots from Buster Keaton’s The General, Stand By Me, and Animal House. You’ll also find nearby farms, breweries, and vineyards offering tours and tastings. Camp sites are off highway and behind a gate, mostly out of view from road; however, as we do lives on the property, it is not entirely secluded/private, and there will be noise from the highway. This is a multiple tent/RV area, and our house is at the top of the driveway, so there may also be minimal traffic passing by your site. There is abundant wildlife on our property, including deer, wild turkeys, black bears (rarely seen), many varieties of birds, and more.
