Located in the Chapman area of Scappoose, this area is rich in logging history; the Crown Zellerbach trail is an old logging road and now an 18 mile hiking/biking "story board" of the life and culture of both the Native American Indians that lived in the area and the evolution of logging. Just over the peak of the CZ trail (which is approximately 3 miles from our property) is an old mine, just one example of many hidden areas to explore. Our retreat is just 45 minutes from Portland, yet feels a world away. You can relax in the quiet or explore the trail, the small towns that dot Highway 30 or head to the river. If you continue West on Highway 30, you will pass through many small logging towns, the old Trojan Nuclear site and eventually land in Astoria on the coast. Learn more about this land: Tucked Away Retreat is quiet and peaceful yet 45 minutes from Portland. Located on 4 private acres, watch the deer wander through the property or the hawks float overhead. Bring your bikes and hit the Crown Zellerbach trail, or hike it instead. We are located approximately 0.8 mile from the trail. Visit Sauvie's Island, the largest inland island in the United States. Paddle or kayak on Scappoose Bay, head up to the Trojan frisbee-golf course, or just relax on the lawn. We are also an easy drive from Vernonia, the Nehalem River and Big Eddy Park. We offer two sites; Site A is on flat gravel that enjoys full sun. Site A is across from the large grassy area, perfect for sunning and relaxing. Site B is on gravel on the upper drive and is shaded most of the day. Site B is best suited for camper vans, truck campers or small trailers due to trees along the back curve of the driveway. Large trailers/RV's and motorhomes will fit in Site B but you may need to back in. Site B is backed by our private, small shop. The two sites are separated by trees. Both sites have 120v, 30amp and water hookups. The property can accommodate one or two additional RV's in spots adjacent to both sites for multiple vehicle groups; contact us for more information if you are a larger group. Additional vehicles are an extra charge. Please be aware that we are RV only, we have no outhouse, so we cannot accommodate tents or folks who want to sleep in their vehicle. This is just the perfect secluded landing pad in some quiet, beautiful countryside. It's close enough to Portland to make it a short drive for a fraction of the price you'd pay for a place to stay in the city. It's a gorgeous spot that's perfectly secure to leave a campsite set up while you're gone and not have to worry. I've stayed twice and will probably return again.

Weekend Trip to Hoodland Basecamp at Scrumpy Farest

We tent camped on one of the RV sites (Potbelly 2) so we could drive up, and we had a fantastic time. Our 3-yr old twins LOVED getting to meet and feed the farm animals, and the people who live on site were very friendly and welcoming. The outdoor bathroom was the cleanest I’ve ever experienced and only a few minutes walk from our site. The showers were a nice feature as well!

Kim is great! Welcomed us and helped get us settled in a perfect spot. Water is easily accessed to fill up a camper, and there are bathrooms on site. Wifi is strong and consistent. The Hipcamp site is beautiful, quiet, and away from it all but not too far from McMinnville where you can see a movie, or grab a meal or walk about a cute downtown. And the stargazing is amazing!

Tent camping at Oak Oasis was great! Plenty of room for parking, super kind and flexible hosts, just a great little spot. Plenty of exploring to be done around the area, and despite warnings of bad cell service, we had no issues on the site. Only possible complaint was numerous yellowjackets due to fallen fruit in the area, but they weren't too much of a bother. Would stay again :)

Just needed a flat spot to pitch our family-size tent for a night. This place fit the bill, and it had a nice view of the surrounding hills. Had to keep the kids from wandering into the ubiquitous prickly berry bushes, and it looked like there was some poison oak on the fringes of the spot, but these hazards were mostly easy to avoid.

Where to go

Willamette Valley Wine Country

If you like wine, you’re in the right place—Sherwood itself has a few wineries and is but a short drive from many, many more. You’ll find some of the highest concentration of wineries in the nearby towns of Dundee, Yamhill, Newberg, and McMinnville.

Along the Willamette River

The Willamette is the closest major river to Sherwood, and is flanked with beautiful green spaces and state and county parks. Popular spots within a short drive include Molalla River State Park, Champoeg State Park, and the San Salvador Beach and Boat Launch.

Along the Clackamas River

East of Sherwood, the Clackamas River is known for its fishing, whitewater rafting, and summertime swimming opportunities. It’s also flanked with some great recreation areas, including the Milo McIver State Park, a darling among disc golfers.

When to go

If you’re looking to camp or spend a lot of time outdoors, try to plan your visit for July, August, or September, when temperatures are generally warm and the chance of rain is low. Temperatures begin to drop in October and things don’t often warm up again until April, but while autumn, winter, and spring in this region can be rainy, temperatures rarely drop much below freezing.
