Come check out Stout Grove, a rarely crowded gem of the Redwood National and State Parks. The grove is a part of Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park which is the least developed and most impressive park of the four. From your campsite you will have a lovely view of a large bend of the Smith River. If you are looking for a unique experience and up for rustic accommodations among goats, chickens, a permaculture food forest with a few off-grid perks, we welcome you to join us in our mountainous, wilderness paradise! Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings). Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the "gentle giants" on your way to or from Redwood National Park. We are self-sufficient, and sustainable in a relatively primitive set-up, especially after the fire this year. It's mountainous and remote, and we have a community agreement about no smoking (of any kind) on our land.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Jacob's Riverside Gem! It's rustic enough to feel adventurous and homey enough to feel warm and comfy in the winter. It's obvious that Jacob has put a lot of heart and soul into this little cabin because of all the artistic touches you will find throughout. The firewood was well stocked, the property was beautiful with many fresh fungi to observe, and the little kitchen was perfect for making delicious meals. The fridge is quite small with no freezer, so if you want to bring fresh food for cooking, I recommend bringing a cooler. The shower is not far from the cabin, so it's easy to get a hot shower in and run back inside to the warm cabin. Make sure to bring your own bath towel. The bathroom is farther from the cabin, but I enjoyed the walk there, especially at night when I could look at the stars. We didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space very much, seeing as we visited in winter, but we definitely want to come back in the summer to enjoy all that this little cabin and the Smith River area has to offer. If you're looking for a quaint place to stay while adventuring in the area, you've found the right place!

What a gorgeous spot!! Easy to find. Several areas to enjoy ourselves. Huge area for the dogs to run and play. Lots of shade. Wonderful view of the river from the deck. Comfortable seating in several places. Property is very well kept. Even the outhouse was the cleanest I’ve ever been into! Can’t wait to find the time to go again !!

Absolutely the best place to camp - hands down my ALL TIME NEW FAVORITE! Beautiful area, gorgeous river, lots of trees for shade, enough room to fit a huge family reunion of people comfortably and we only had 5. Yes the path down to the river was tricky, not difficult if you are steady on your feet but if you are not, you may find the path troublesome. I found the little outhouse to be scarier than the river trail. If you have your own portable toilet, bring it. It will save you lots of scary moments with spiders and bees. The only thing I wish we would of had but didn't, were some SOLAR LIGHTS to put up along the path down to the deck. It would have made the walk much easier in the dark. All in all, it was a wonderful 6 days! Looking forward to booking my spot again for next year soon as I don't wanna miss out on camping here again. I'm sure as soon as word gets out how great it is here, booking a week-long reservation will be hard to do! Thank you Tyler for sharing your amazing property with us. We made some awesome memories! It was an unforgetable adventure!

Go straight at the barn! (Don't go left!) Lovely pastoral land, mellow sheep, we could hear the rolling surf, the site was level and private--even though one other site was visible, adirondack chairs and wooden picnic table with benches were a bonus, and the fire pit was great! Nick is a patient, attendant host. I highly recommend this farm!

1 night at Azalea River
Jacob has really put in a labor of love on this land to help his guests, rest, reset and connect. Being able to take a shower outside and hike down and wade the waters of the river was unbelievable. It rained most of the time I was there so I didn't get to take advantage of the river much but the cabin was a cozy safe haven to cook dinner and brew my morning coffee in. I loved that I could camp there and then drive 25minutes and be hiking in the Jedidiah Smith Redwoods area. Close enough off the 101 you can really use it as a stop like I did however I can see how staying longer would mean even more glory along the river. The cons are I found some metal scraps and screws on the ground walking around; just beware if you have kiddos. The hike down is well designed but it's definitely moderate and can be slippery. The ladder up the bed is not for the faint of heart!

Weekend Trip to Cranberry Overlook
What i noticed first was the beautiful tree-lined drive in to the property. Gorgeous farm with lots of privacy between camps. Pleasantly surprised with the adirondack-type chairs around the fire pit. Beautiful picnic tables and flat areas for tents, etc. Loved the big dog mascot as well!

Great stay at this sheep farm. Easy to find, chill experience overall. The farm dog is super sweet. Sites are far enough apart it's private, quiet and dark. Had a good sleep here and would stay again. Fire pit & wood was provided(when bought) along with picnic bench.

Weekend Trip to Smith River Retreat
Smith River Retreat is a magical place to camp. Carole’s property is such a beautiful place to be with a delightful garden of a yard, an amazing path down to a top-notch swimming hole, a thoughtful campsite perched above the river, and a great host. We feel so grateful. We can’t wait to come back.

Such an awesome weekend! Incredible beautiful, pictures don’t do it justice. My cousin proposed to his girlfriend here and she LOVED it. Feels like you’re in a movie, the water wasn’t as cold as we thought it would be. 10/10 recommend, we’re definitely going back!

Beautiful property and the perfect location for our relaxing anniversary getaway! Nick was a great host (and so was Bella... the very sweet dog who hung out with me while I relaxed in my hammock). Our site had shade, a picnic table, fire pit, and also had power. My wife and I had a fantastic 3-night stay.
