Weekend Trip to Oak Ring Ridge

Andy was a wonderful host, greeted us and walked us through the space when we arrived. It was our first time in a little A-frame cabin and this one was quite charming and loved the handmade feel to all the details! It was a wonderful retreat and reset as we were off grid. We especially loved the loft, hanging out and sleeping with the view of the sky! Absolutely would come back.

1 night at Oak Ring Ridge

The snuck shack was indeed a snug, remote and charming stay. The host was ever so kind and accommodating. Great trails with wide open spaces for the doggies. The kitchen was well equipped and suitable staying off grid. The roof was clear corrugated so you can catch a starry night from the loft bed. Host left a walkie talkie to get in touch for any questions or needs as cell service is very limited. Wish we had time to stay longer and explore.

Weekend Trip to Firebird Ridge

What a beautiful place!! I stayed two times - once on the way to visit family (Portland to Bay area) and then again on the way home. It is the PERFECT halfway mark between these two West Coast cities for anyone not wanting to drive the full 10-11 hours in one day. The first time I was blessed with more temperate weather, and I spent time exploring the land both in the evening I arrived and much of the following morning. Ben has created little walkways all over the property to various vistas and sitting places, and he decorates the paths with standing rock art! It was so fun to turn a corner and see two or three big rocks sitting impossibly on top of each other! Up above the tent site there is a pond that delights, complete with ducks and geese, and I saw several deer on that first morning. Perhaps my favorite part is the outhouse! Beautiful to look at with its weathered boards and artsy branch work, it is open to the valley!! Yes, it's a composting toilet, but in open air there is no foul scent nor anyone to see you.... just a glorious vista of the Klamath River valley below! I did my business while the sun rose red to the east and birds serenaded me. It was sublime, and I was sad to leave. On the way home, a mere week later, the temps were in the high 90s, and the stay was not as fun. Luckily, Ben texted me to advise me to arrive later in the day to avoid the hottest time of day (thank you again, Ben!!), so no misery for me! Great site, great host, & I will return!

Weekend Trip to Oak Ring Ridge

Absolutely phenomenal experience. Hosts are gracious, kind, and set up a beautiful nest that has everything ya need in a gorgeous environment. Naturalist paradise: encountered coyote, wild horses, golden eagle, bobcat, red-tailed hawk, western tanager, deer, amongst many other songbirds as well as a diversity of wildflowers. Tranquil and enlivening stay, full of wild beauty. Highly recommend.

We absolutely loved our stay here! After a day of exploring Crater Lake National Park it was the perfect place to spend the night. The property is pretty magical, we watched kitties and ground squirrels playing and even had a doe hang out with us for an hour not even 20 feet from us. The bed is very comfortable and the showers felt very luxurious.

What a spectacular spot, we had so much fun. The cabin was perfect and the surrounding area was majestic. We lost track of time while inventorying all the wildlife footprints we saw, a feast for your eyes and imagination. Highly recommended and hope to stay again in the future.

Small to medium size (5-15p) groups may combine sites and enjoy some shared space and amenities, please inquire. **04/25: entry road has 1 mile bumpy section awaiting maintenance** At an elevation just under 3000 feet, the Ridge gets lots of sun, with cold nights and hot days in winter and summer respectively. This is a drier climate between May and October, meaning some fire risk and potential smoke impacts in area forests, although the mountainside location generally offers clean fresh air with stunning sunsets and excellent stargazing. The land contains over a mile of scenic trails with rock features, gnarly old "bonsai" oak trees, native plants and wildflowers in a landscape undergoing restoration to healthy diverse fire resistant conditions. Wildlife abounds, mostly the friendly sort however visitors should be mindful to avoid unwelcome encounters, and any small children or pets kept under close watch. Your host can address questions or concerns. Count on fair to good cell service, wifi and power are centrally accessible too. Activity and development on site are minimized to enhance natural habitat and ambience. Guests are advised to minimize disturbance of other occupants and lifeforms. It's fine to have fun and make some intermittent noise but disruptive or damaging behavior will be curtailed. This extends to the neighborhood as well, especially on the road in/out where it's important to keep your speed (dust, noise etc) DOWN in the vicinity of houses. That 40 acres where we now live was badly abused, and we have been in the process of cleaning up and restoring it. Fortunate for you, the land surrounding the Snug Shack was never abused and is still pristine and beautiful. We have been able to clean up, regrow and make ready for camping guests. We once again have 6 tipis, all beautiful, and in addition, 6 new camping sites for people with their own tents. Sorry, NO rv's (vans are allowed.) Its wonderful to see all the beautiful regrowth, and to see that most of our trees have regenerated. It is now once again a beautiful place to be. It is their love for this land and a desire to share the beauty and Native experience with others to led them to open up these campgrounds. There is 15 acres in the immediate campgrounds & 6 tipi sites and 6 camping sites for folks with their own tents, so LOTS of privacy. Our ranch has 250 acres of land, great hiking trails that you will have access to for hiking, next to the Winema National Forest, and connected to the Pacific Crest Trail. You will have space to enjoy this beauty. The owner's horses are rescue horses and are their own private property. Please do NOT feed them or go up to them without the owners being there. Horses have delicate stomachs. Our gentle giants are mellow but very big so please stay OUT of their pasture. You may help us during their feeding time, if you ask owners.
