The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

We cater to the tent camper so that we can hear frogs & owls instead of generators. But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). Love this place. So quiet but close to many activities in the area. The cabin is so adorable and the hosts are wonderful people. So nice that they established this rescue for animals with their property. Their farm fresh eggs they offer are so good. Definitely will plan a trip or 2 back. More to explore. Weekend Trip to Glamping at River Run
This little getaway was everything. The rustic, bohemian vibe was thoughtfully executed. It was warm, inviting, and so clean! The hosts are excellent communicators which was evident right way. They have taken care of every detail. Seriously, leave it all at home! Blankets, lanterns, kitchen/cooking items - stocked! We drove over 3 hours to camp in someone's backyard. Was it worth it? YES! Not negatives, but some things to consider: There is a train nearby that you hear all night which i find personally comforting. You will also hear a decent amount of traffic noise from the nearby road. Although you're tucked away, there are still people and other glampers on the neighboring property that you can hear and see. Also, the waterfront is super cute! Probably good for fishing and walking the property, but too mucky for taking a dip. Oh! The nearby downtown area is also fabulous with lots of great shops, bars, and restaurants. This sweet little glamp spot has everything. 💕

This was such a cute spot! We loved how secluded it was. Nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of cicadas and rain on the roof. We only had one night but might be back to try farming for a day or a tractor ride as advertised on their website!

Nice spot, easy to get to. The trees are dense so it gets dark early, feels like you’re truly in the woods. The walking path around the lake is well maintained. Plenty of fishing jumping in the morning. The structure is basic but kept us warm and dry! Would come back

Me and my Dad stayed at The Shady Owl Ranch for a few days and it was amazing!! It was super cute, I loved every small detail, with the pictures on the walls and the whole esthetic was cozy- we loved everything so much!! It was so peaceful and full of animals!! We will definitely be back!! Also the folks here are super nice 🫶🏻 (caught a lot of fish too) 🎣😁

Host/hostess are very helpful and nice. I recommend you read pre-arrival instructions before arriving. If it’s going to be dark when you’re arriving, make sure you have a big flashlight to use when you’re going to the cabin. The stovetop is manually lit without the “clicking” of a pilot. I suggest putting the burner on low. The surrounding area has a full service grocery store and a few fast and fast casual restaurants within 2 miles. Finally, beware of the free range Turkey. They will lounge behind your vehicle and will not leave. We just drove around them to get out. Overall, we enjoyed the quiet and peaceful setting of the cabin. We would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a good retreat or recharge trip. The honey and eggs were delicious and worth adding to the trip. The unlimited firewood would be great for a longer stay, but wasn’t valuable for what was a little more than one night stay because of our last minute trip.
