Grins & Pickin's CampFarm was created to share the outdoors with others. Growing food & flowers, camping & hiking is what we like to do. And we like sharing these activities. Our family oriented outdoor recreation facility offers primitive camping, $PYO$ produce during the growing season, homesteading activities & nature-based programs.
The peaceful 20-acre country farm has food gardens, a frog habitat pool, a barnyard for the chickens & ducks, a bluegill fishin' pond, a pollinator maze, a prairie garden, and an outdoor stage. After crossing a winding creek into 10 acres of woods, you may see deer, turkey, fox, coyote, mink, eagles & barred owls.
In early spring, the peepers are peeping, wildflowers are abundant & the vernal pools welcome the wood frogs, salamanders and fairy shrimp. Summer brings on the bullfrogs, butterflies, dragonflies and fireflies. Fall is a great time to pull grapevine to make wreaths & to build stick forts in the woods.
We cater to the tent camper so that we can hear frogs & owls instead of generators. But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper.
We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river).

We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property.
Pets are allowed but there are free range animals on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park.
Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park.
Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase.
Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

What an amazing spot & amazing time. Robert & Maria do such an awesome time taking care of the spot, it really is an oasis in Bellefontaine, even the bathroom situation is spotless.
I 100% recommend! I went solo this time, but I'll definitely be back with my kids!
My only gripe is that Robert didn't invite to come hunting with him on the property. 😆

The cabin was perfect! Highly recommend it. The host did a great job with the place. Gives a good detailed layout of the property and places to visit in a book. Also fun with all the different animals on the property the host owns.

3 nights at Shady Owl Ranch
Me and my Dad stayed at The Shady Owl Ranch for a few days and it was amazing!! It was super cute, I loved every small detail, with the pictures on the walls and the whole esthetic was cozy- we loved everything so much!! It was so peaceful and full of animals!! We will definitely be back!! Also the folks here are super nice 🫶🏻 (caught a lot of fish too) 🎣😁

Host/hostess are very helpful and nice. I recommend you read pre-arrival instructions before arriving. If it’s going to be dark when you’re arriving, make sure you have a big flashlight to use when you’re going to the cabin. The stovetop is manually lit without the “clicking” of a pilot. I suggest putting the burner on low.
The surrounding area has a full service grocery store and a few fast and fast casual restaurants within 2 miles.
Finally, beware of the free range Turkey. They will lounge behind your vehicle and will not leave. We just drove around them to get out.
Overall, we enjoyed the quiet and peaceful setting of the cabin. We would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a good retreat or recharge trip. The honey and eggs were delicious and worth adding to the trip. The unlimited firewood would be great for a longer stay, but wasn’t valuable for what was a little more than one night stay because of our last minute trip.

This was a wonderful location and my children (and dogs) and I had a great time. Pond was beautiful, fire pit made a peaceful evening, and the cabin was clean and welcoming. We can’t wait to go back!

Weekend Trip to GreyOaks Tree Plantation, woodlands
Beautiful property and very accommodating hosts! Cabin was warm and cozy, loved the extra touches of firewood, candles, etc. Porta-potty was super clean. The perfect place to getaway and recharge.

Oh my goodness!!!! I knew right when we pulled thru the gate this place would be perfect!! Loved the vibe!! Amanda’s property is so cozy & welcoming! Everything she does has a purpose. Our kiddos loved the pond & all the animals roaming. The kittens & of course Tom & Jerry the turkeys! The cabin was super cute & decorated to perfection! We loved everything about this place!

This a perfect place for families. From the pond with great fishing and paddle boards to the well maintained trails and lots of animals to see. My 4 kids absolutely loved it and had a wonderful time. The owners are great, friendly and helpful! We hope to be back!

Host were quick to respond to requests and questions. Cabin was Soo cute and perfect amount of space for us (2 adults and 1 older kid). Having the option for AC and a real bed is what I needed to relax and get away from "life" but also cook on the fire and sit by the water. Turkeys do get close and that was awesome. Would love to go back in every season! Thanks for a cool unique stay!

Weekend Trip to Shady Owl Ranch
A lil overnight getaway in the Conifer Cabin was just what we needed. We fished the pond, had a small fire, listened to the sounds of nature, played card games, and most of all enjoyed the peacefulness. Cabin is private and serene with surrounding woods and best of all…it’s in total privacy. We loved it! Can’t wait to book again in the future! The animals were definitely an added bonus! ☺️

Absolutely LOVELY place to stay. There's various farm animals to watch and interact with, along with some eggs and honey for sale. Both the eggs and honey are so tasty. The hosts are wonderful people and very easy to talk to. We've stayed two summers in a row and absolutely will be staying there again in the future. Can't recommend them enough if you're staying in the area 💕
