We had a great time camping at Grins n Pickins campground. Christy is so welcoming and friendly. The property is well taken care of and birds / wildlife were abundant. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay a day short as the overnight temps were a little too low for my young son, but we will be back soon when it’s warmer!

The campsite was very nice! I wish we could have stayed longer. The duck eggs were great! Very quiet and serene with hearing the owls at night 😊 Next time through we'll bring the whole family for a night or two! We were even refunded for the wood when we weren't able to use it for a fire due to getting back much later than we hoped.

The cabin was cute and clean and in good condition. The beds were comfy. Had paper plates and plastic utensils and paper towels already in the cabin. It was very private because it was raining so there wasn’t anybody outside or anything. More affordable than a lot of other cabins. There was a massive spider under one of the extra pillows. And there was a cute cat that showed up on our last night just wanting to hang out with us.

We really enjoyed staying here! Ed and Michelle were great hosts. They were very warm and helpful. The cabin (Moose Cabin) was really clean and the mattresses were comfortable. It was nice that bedding was provided. Our kids had a blast there and Ed and Michelle were so kind to them. The port-a-potty was very clean and the outdoor shower was also really nice. It's obvious that Ed and Michelle have worked hard to make this a great place to stay and value their guests.

What can I say, this is a wonderful piece of land. From the campsites and the amazing views of the pond, to the peace and quiet provided our stay exceeded my expectations. Richard was kind and attentive but Ruby (his loving dog) stole our hearts. Everything was exactly as described in the listing which made navigating a breeze. Trails and campsites were well marked which I really appreciated. I couldn't recomend this place enough!! Can't wait to get back with the whole family.

3 nights at Altenbrauch Farm

We really enjoyed our stay. It's a beautiful piece of property you can tell they've put a lot of work into. Plenty of places to stay along the creek and many options to spread out so you have a bit of privacy. It's nice and quiet except for the occasional local dirt track driver coming down the gravel road. We just stayed there the whole time it was nice and relaxing. The Port-a-jon was clean the solar shower worked it wasn't very warm but it was mid April. When we were there my buddy and his son helped me rack it back to the left as the door was stuck. I'd advise walking the 4x4 paths before heading off on them if you haven't been there yet. It's a very cool place to stay.

We had such a blast on our Easter camping trip. Process was easy. Land well maintained. Only had 3 other groups out there so we basically had the land to ourselves. Had little things that we didn't think to pack available for purchase. Only downside was Digger bees at our site but they were harmless. Will definitely be returning this summer.

Richard has always been very welcoming when camping on his property. It dropped below 30° when I stayed there and he was kind enough to drive around the campsite to make sure we were ok. Staying at Flying J farms will always be a 10/10 in my books.

Good news! Open fire ban lifted, camp fires are ok now! The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures).

The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 8 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels. We now just added a in the trees, warm water rinse off area.

Our family oriented outdoor recreation facility offers primitive camping, PYO produce during the growing season, homesteading activities & nature-based programs. The peaceful 20-acre country farm has food gardens, a frog habitat pool, a barnyard for the chickens & ducks, a bluegill fishin' pond, a pollinator maze, a prairie garden, and an outdoor stage. After crossing a winding creek into 10 acres of woods, you may see deer, turkey, fox, coyote, mink, eagles & barred owls. In early spring, the peepers are peeping, wildflowers are abundant & the vernal pools welcome the wood frogs, salamanders and fairy shrimp. Summer brings on the bullfrogs, butterflies, dragonflies and fireflies. Fall is a great time to pull grapevine to make wreaths & to build stick forts in the woods. We cater to the tent camper so that we can hear frogs & owls instead of generators. But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river). You’ll encounter abandoned historical sites and relics dating back to the early 1800s, hidden away among the wooded hills of Ohio’s least populated county. If you're a lover of outdoor recreation, this is the place to be. Within about a half-hour drive, there are many opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, hunting and fishing, and birding. Nearby parks and forests include Hocking Hills State Park, Hocking Hills State Forest, Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski State Forest, the Moonville Rail Trail, Lake Alma State Park, Tar Hollow State Forest, and more!Set up camp wherever you like! There are 12 acres of open field space, surrounded by 50 acres of wooded hills and hollows with hiking trails and level spots to pitch tents. Vehicles can be driven to the field sites; we are still working on a road to access the hill sites by vehicle. The fields have about a dozen "permanent" sites with stone or metal fire rings and log seating. Portable fire rings are also available that can be moved anywhere. Dead wood for campfires is free to gather, or split firewood is available to purchase for $5/bundle. A toilet and solar shower are located at the center of the property. An outdoor water spigot is also available. Guests are expected to follow the "Leave No Trace" principles. Any trash packed onto the property must be bagged and taken with you.
