We bought this property in 2012 and have built several buildings and forged paths throughout the 32 acres. Our road is part of the North Country Trail, a footpath stretching over 4,600 miles from Middlebury in central Vermont to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota.
While tearing down the existing house, we constructed two bedrooms in the pole barn for a quick living space. Once settled in the pole barn, we a built a small log cabin with already felled timbers from the local woods, except for the box frame which was purchased from the local Amish. Prior to building our permanent log cabin home, this small cabin was our camp site and is now being rented to people that want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. In the middle of the woods, we created a campground to be enjoyed by hikers and on the North side of our property is a tree line between two fields that is a great small camper/tent camping spot.

Parking is most easily found next to these sites as well (and the lighting is also excellent.) Also, in the near vicinity, a shared firepit is readily available and can accommodate at least 12 people.

The property host a variety of apple trees, open grass land, and a large cluster of trees surrounding a 3/4 acre pond, while being surrounded by wood lots on three sides and open fields to the west. A stone fire pit and picnic table sit just off shore of the swimming area of the pond. There are several wide mowed pathways surrounded by prairie grasses, shaded by large trees. The area can easily handle several tents, hammocks and small RVs. The area is rural farm land with a handful of houses on the short dirt road. But this property is surrounded by wood lots and open fields. Two neighbors houses are visible but separated by trees. Our house is visible from the pond and camping area.

We are situated on 5 acres just NW of Bowling Green, Ohio. Our property was used to raise horses and other farm animals for many years. We have two main pastures and our Homestead. The south part of the "West Pasture" is where we host campers. This area has many evergreen trees. We have small stands of Bamboo and reed grass along with many trees including White Pine, Black Walnut, Hackberry, Maple, Norway Spruce, Blue Spruce, Cedar, River Birch and more!

First of all, the place was beautiful! The lights on the buildings were magical! Troy was nice enough to help us late at night for a place to pull through with my class A and car on dolly just for electricity! It was cold and we were driving til we found something! Big area to camp for tents or other RVs and only the 15 amp for plug in but a delightful place! Bring the kids just for the sights! Troy was so nice and hung out in the cold to help me park! Great with communication and a heart to help!

We loved our stay! Our site was easy to get to and clean and prepped with firewood when we arrived. We tent camped with our 4 dogs and they absolutely loved the pond. One of the reasons we booked. The owner's respected our privacy and we knew they'd be accommodating if we needed them. We'd certainly stay again.

We stayed in a tent and really enjoyed our experience here. The site had electricity which made things extra convenient. At night there was a really nice light show that made the evenings feel special. We also loved seeing all the different animals around the property. It gave the stay a fun and unique touch. Overall it was a great mix of comfort and nature.

Stayed here this past weekend with a friend and loved it! The site is beautifully maintained, right next to a peaceful pond. It feels secluded with very little road traffic, yet the owner is nearby if you need anything. The spot is thoughtfully set up with a swim area, campfire, picnic table, toilet bucket, bags, and even paper towels ready for use. Highly recommend for a relaxing, hassle-free camping getaway!

My favorite HipCamp spot! Loved the site for swimming, star gazing, relaxing peace, and a cyclist dream area to ride. Good cell service with both Verizon and ATT. Very well maintained campsite. Host very responsive. Private site and flat. My paraplegic dog enjoyed the site. We will be back for sure.

Wow! My boyfriend and I wanted a peaceful time away from home, and boy did we get it! The pond was so clean, the property so nicely kept, and we were even provided toilet paper, which we forgot, so that was a total bonus. PLENTY of firewood and we had a fire going most of our visit! We are going to try to come yearly on our anniversary for now on!

My favorite place to camp so far, and I don't see how anywhere else will ever beat this. So peaceful and serene. Almost no traffic in the area, the pond was well kept, beautiful, and refreshing because we are end of season. Got nibbled by a frog which was a surprise. Firewood was plentiful and kept us warm at night.
Thank you so much for letting us stay, we would really like to come back again.

We had a relaxing time at Shawn's Schoolhouse Camp. We were provided easy understandable directions and a great rate . We were greeted by the onsite property manager who was very nice . We were fortunate to have the whole place to ourselves and had our pick of sites. The property was very well kept. Very clean grounds. Beautiful mature trees and landscaping.
There was a wonderful fire pit with cooktop so all that was needed was our utensils .The brats turned out magnificent! Nice picnic table area and chairs to relax in. Ample room for our pup to play . Had a nice bonfire later in the evening.
When in the area we will most definitely look to see if he has availability for another stay.

I loved camping here. The property is beautiful! Easy to get to. Lots of amenities! The mosquitos by the pond weren't too bad, I'm assuming the 1 billion frogs in each pond eat them all. Just be careful where you set up your tent between the ponds. I staked mine down and then realized the tree above it was leaning significantly towards the tent. Luckily there wasn't any strong wind or storms that had me too worried. My dog loved running around off leash too!

We loved our weekend at Barefoot Retreat! The pond is naturally clean and it’s also stocked with fish. My husband enjoyed fishing and I enjoyed the paddle boards. The pond also features a water slide and diving board which I wasn’t aware of so it was a nice surprise. This place is so peaceful. The sunsets are stunning. Meditating on the dock at night paired with water sounds from the pond fountain really helped calm my mind. That matched with the moonlight and stars really made this place so dearly tranquil. Our three dogs really enjoyed roaming around. I’d say if you bring pets or kids definitely bring a canopy for shade because it gets toasty in the sun. We brought a canopy tent and that was a nice relief for all of us. We will be back!

We stopped for 1 night on our way home from Michigan back to Columbus just to break up the drive. Very peaceful, great sunset, nice shade, and the dogs loved it too. Shawn was very friendly and accommodating. Water and electric hook up and we could dump on our way out which is a great perk! Definitely recommend stay here.

Site was very nice with a great view of the pond, as well as great access to the water. There was a fire pit and picnic table and room for our 6-person tent. Paths are well mowed. It's only about 12 minutes into the city of Angola if you forget something.
The frogs were very active, there are turtles and plenty of fish, and other wildlife as well.
