My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Learn more about this land:   Pitch your tent in the grass on the tip top of the mountain or park your camper in the flat gravel spot with a fire pit just below the top with beautiful views overlooking Cane Creek.  In the fall and winter enjoy 360 degree views and in the summer enjoy the shade and cool breeze while relaxing & snacking on wild wine berries and black raspberries.   What you will not find is light pollution, traffic, and a desire to leave the mountain.  Fall asleep to the calls of the hoot owl and wake up to the knocking of the wood pecker.       If & when you decide to explore the area, be sure to checkout Hickory Nut Gap farm just 7.9 miles away & Whistle Hop Brewery 7.7 miles away.  Turgua brewery just down on Cane Creek road is only 6.2 miles from camp.  Cane Creek Valley Farm as well as the Cane Creek Community swimming pool is also at the base of camp just in case the kids need a dip of ice cream or a dip in the pool.  Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville.  We love taking our kids there.      We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. Hi! Lindsay and Matt West here. Our farm is situated on a 33 acre forested property in the Swannanoa mountains where we grow plants, make pottery and do metalwork. Although our dirt road is ~3/4 mile long, we are just 8 miles from the heart of Asheville, 4.5 miles from Beacon Village in Swannanoa, 9 miles from Black Mountain, and 3 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our property is home to some of the most rare and beautiful wildflowers in the region, wildlife of all kinds, and a wood fired pottery kiln! We have three spirited dogs who bark and play in the yard, and neighbors who ride motorcycles and make some noise sometimes, so it's not always quiet and peaceful, but it is beautiful and far more private than you'll get at a campground. This is a working forest farm and studio space, so there will likely be sounds of productivity during daytime hours. We often have plants for sale, as well as pottery, herbs, eggs, and other farm offerings. We live on a one lane mountain road that is shared by multiple homes. The road is rough in some areas. If you're used to forest service roads, you'll be fine here. If you're used to paved roads, you might find ours a little jarring. My mom drives a little front wheel drive car and makes it here fine, but use your best judgement based on what you're used to. AWD/4WD recommended for ease of parking at the campsite (just in case it has been a wet season, otherwise totally not necessary). We do recommend getting here before dark the first time you arrive if possible for ease of navigation.

The site's (there's only one!) first appeal is the amazing view of Bull Mountain Ridge. Beautiful all year long, but particularly in late October when the leaves are in their richest colors. It feels private and tucked away, but is very accessible to all of what the Asheville area has to offer. Downtown is a 15 minute drive; ride services and shuttles are both easy to secure and quite affordable. The backdrop of the site is forested and easy to relax in - the understory is maintained for guest use, providing cooling shade with a stunning view. My overnight stay at Will's place was great! I just needed a place to sleep for the night to get an early start for some hiking at Craggy Gardens and Mt. Mitchell. Everything appeared as or even better than pictured. Will met me when I arrived, showed me where everything was and made sure that I had all that I needed. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend!

This was a pretty nice spot! We included the hot tub which was perfect after long days of hiking or enjoying some coffee in the morning. Only about a 20 minute drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway and lots of other areas for a good hike not to far away! Saw a turkey in the woods and lots of birds singing to you in the morning.

Weekend Trip to Creekside Park - w/ Wifi!

This is a nice little spot! Very clean and super easy to get to. The big lawn is pretty and there's a little nature walk next to the creek, too. There are some big lights and road noise, but not bad for something so close to Asheville, Mars Hill, Weaverville, and terrific hiking. The owners are awesome folks. Free wifi on ATT was excellent!

Very peaceful spot close to the highway. Easy to pull back into and set up. David was really flexible about what time we arrived, which was great for us. There was a patch of grass by the creek that our kids & dog liked. WiFi worked great too!

Weekend Trip to Creekside Park - w/ Wifi!

This was a super convenient location for a quick weekend birthday trip to hang out in Asheville. It's right off the highway and easy to navigate to Weaverville, Mars Hill, and Asheville. David said they are usually closed in February, but we lucked out with good weather and were able to take advantage of the full hookups. With three larger dogs, it was nice to have the dog yard--with bags and trash can--and the nature trail area which would be a wonderful little hangout spot in the warmer months. There is highway noise, but it wasn't an issue for us, as we were running around the city and not looking for an outdoor getaway. However, like I said, the little nature trail hideaway would give you more of that feel. I can easily picture reading a book on a blanket and listening to the creek or enjoying an evening fire at the pit. The only recommendation I would have is to maybe fence in some, if not all, of the dog yard (if not already in the plans) to allow dogs to have some time off leash. We have one that refuses to go potty on a leash, and another that's high energy, so she would have loved the opportunity to run out some zoomies. Again, not a deal-breaker, but something that would make camping with doggos more convenient. This spot is definitely on my list of places to return to! I also highly recommend Stony Knob Cafe for a delicious high-quality meal and Salt Face Mule Brewing Co for a great hangout spot in Weaverville, as well as Biscuit Head and La Rumba in Asheville.

Second time staying. Definitely coming back soon. The hot tub is such a great amenity to have and so is the Wi-Fi. You’re secluded and off the road with plenty of privacy yet close enough to still go out and do everything you wanna do.
