The Clubhouse also happens to be home to our on-site fitness center and laundry facility. So, you can work out while running a few spin cycles, if you like.

Jeremy's place was perfect. Easy access to our spot. We were traveling so only able to stay one night. I was very appresiative of the hot shore on property. The communal Kitchen and fire pit were awesome. We hope to enjoy them more on another stay. Jeremy has vision and is working to make this a perfect place to hang out and kick back for a few days. We will be back.

We cannot believe our incredible good luck to have found this place. Christine and Ken cover everything - with so many thoughtful touches in every area to make our stay over the top. There is ample space for multiple tents with flat sandy/dirt as the base and boat-ramp access to the river. The large open kitchen area is beautiful and would hold many if it were raining. Our group was there for an annual get-together, and we’ve decided not to explore other locations or venues, looking forward to returning.

We really enjoyed this hipcamp. We do a lot of hipcamps and this one definitely goes right into our favorites . Really clean and well kept. Great host, nice sites, good spacing and probably the nicest bathroom of any hipcamp I've been to. The little town of Floyd is quite a treat also. Thanks, Jeremy , you are doing a great job down there at hippie hollow. We'll see you again!!

This is a special place. The small campground is nestled along a creek just outside of Floyd. There are fire pits and picnic tables at each site. However, there is a large communal firepit, an outdoor kitchen, and stage in the center of the campground that invites people to come together. It was chilly the night we arrived and one of the guys built an awesome bonfire in the communal firepit. Instead of everyone being at their own campsites, the bonfire brought people together while we listened to music on the stage. The campground is also dog friendly, with well-trained dogs roaming off leash in little packs running about. There was a nice social atmosphere. Everyone at the campground was chill. There's also a small shower house with flush toilet and hot water. Jeremy's spot is real nice.

It was a nice, quiet site right beside a babbling brook. It beats camping in the middle of dozens of huge and noisy homes on wheels. Only about three minutes from Floyd, which was handy. Several dogs had free run of the campsite, but they all seemed friendly. Only one person can be in the bathroom at a time, which was slightly inconvenient, but it appears to be early days and there are some improvements apparently in the works.

We had a great stay at Hippie Hollow. Our dogs were able to be off leash and mingle with the other dogs and cats. We had a great spot along the creek and perfect view of the full moon! It is more of a community vibe, with a communal kitchen and fire place where everybody mingles.

Where to go
Hanging Rock State Park
Hunker down at Hanging Rock State Park, 30 miles east of Mount Airy. Originally a Civilian Conservation Corps project, this park blossomed into an outdoor oasis featuring hiking, biking, horseback riding, swimming, and rock climbing. Explore part of the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail, or swim, paddle, and fish along the Dan River. Offering campsites, showers, vacation rentals, and picnic areas, the park is perfect for holiday getaways or one-day stays. Note that while trailers and RVs are welcome, there are no hookups, so campers must plan for dry sites.
Pilot Mountain State Park
Pop over to Pilot Mountain State Park to find the legendary geological knob at its center. Less than 15 miles from Mount Airy, the park features two areas: mountain and river. The mountain section highlights hiking, picnicking, and rock climbing, while the river section features horseback riding, paddling, and fishing. The Mountains-to-Sea Trail crosses through both areas, allowing campers to flow seamlessly throughout the park. On-site dry camping is available with showers for campers in tents, trailers, and RVs (no hookups available).
Stone Mountain State Park
Wander 35 miles southwest to Stone Mountain State Park—a scenic 600-foot granite dome. A Natural National Landmark, the dome provides panoramic views with the historical Hutchinson Homestead at its base. The park also features a portion of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, perfect for hiking, biking, paddling, and fishing. On-site camping includes tent sites, backpacking sites, backcountry options, and spots for trailers and RVs. Not all RV sites are equipped with hookups, though the camping area does provide showers and communal dump stations.
When to go
With year-round activities and beautiful landscapes, Mount Airy welcomes campers in every season. Summertime temperatures reach average highs of 87°F—ideal for water activities, rock climbing, backpacking, tent camping, and RVing without heat. As winter approaches, be prepared for temperatures to drop below freezing. The area sees yearly snowfall in December, January, and February, meaning campers should be equipped and experienced in cold weather camping or consider heated rentals.
