When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. Many people write that they’ve learned an enormous amount about themselves, about homesteading or permaculture, and about alternate ways of being. Open Ride Pass (release waiver) available for $20 adults and $10 kids and are good for the length of the camping stay (or Fri-Sun of that week whichever is longer).  Campsites 1-11 are reserved spots and campsites 12-20 are distributed camping ,where you can pick an area yourself. Our farm is named for its site on the South Toe river and this pristine and mighty river indeed showed us their power during Hurricane Helene. At this time, we will be closed for an indeterminate amount of time. The farm was completely flooded by Hurricane Helene September 27th, 2024. All the greenhouses, barns, and fields were impacted and destroyed. We hope to rebuild and open again some day, but the river is completely different and the riparian camping area is now a 30 foot wall of trees at this time. We have had such fond memories of all the people who have camped with us and grown to love our place as well. We thank you for all your love and energy. We had a wonderful stay at the Quack Shack. Lovely river views. Nick was a kind host and made sure we had everything we needed. The sleeping arrangements were comfy and the place was well maintained. Easy walk from your car to the spot. Weather at night was in the high 40s and we slept comfortably with doors closed, blankets, and warm clothes.

The campsite “Buckeye Bank” was absolutely gorgeous. The grounds were very well kept, and the cleanliness of the porta potties was a very nice added bonus. The site was secluded, but easy to find. Communication with the host was quick and extremely helpful. Blair was a huge help in helping me pick the appropriate size campsite for our group and vehicles. I would love to camp here again and would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Linville area.

Love the site! We decided to go last minute and it was super easy and quick to reserve and pay. The indications on how to get there easy to follow. The site was clean and spacious. Just far enough from the next site to have privacy. Our dog loved to play in the creek (us too, we even did a cold “plunge” sitting with water to our armpits). Porta Potty were super clean. Definately recommand!

We loved our experience at Blair’s campground! Campsites weren’t super close to each other which was nice, it made us feel like we were alone in the woods. We stayed in the brand new safari tent, and it was very comfortable. Nice handmade furniture and the mattress that was very comfortable. The deck/porch was the star of the show, that’s where we hang out most of the time. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Fantastic site at a fantastic campground. Blair has thoughtfully carved out some wonderful sites on his property. Very private and isolated from each other! Our site was right on the creek. There was clearly some storm damage but things are cleaned up and in lovely shape. We had a teardrop so didn't use the tent pads but I couldn't help remarking about how great they were! Very level! Getting across the creek was fine but will say the photo doesn't portray the incline into/up out of the creek. It's a decent grade you want to be prepared for. We did it pulling a teardrop so it's doable! Communication was great. We'll be back in the fall!

I absolutely loved this spot!! It was perfect for trying what I thought was going to be my first solo camping trip but my best friend came with me. We felt safe being just 2 female campers. It was peaceful and it’s close to town if you forgot something. We got site number 2 and it had a nice size-able beach area. There were spots in the shade under some trees but we chose to set up on the beach with our 2-4 man tents so we could hear the water all night long. I saw in some reviews where people complained about the traffic on hwy 25. We did hear some of the noise but it wasn’t over bearing. It didn’t bother us. We slept peacefully and just loved being able to walk around while walking her dog. She did a little fishing. The water is perfect for kids to play and splash for those that have children. The beach is sandy on one side and had lots of river rocks on the other side. The cute little bathroom was newly build and we could still smell the fresh wood from it. It was very clean, WITH HOT WATER for showering, and a regular flushing toilet!! Those are a huge deals for primitive camping. There was a water faucet near the entrance to our campsite with drinkable water. Definitely an area I would feel safe going alone. There were other campsites available but they were not too close together so u will definitely have your privacy. We happened to be the only campers at the time! Craig and Sarah are amazing hosts, quick to respond. I got to take home some fresh farm eggs. 😍

Love this campground. It’s our second time there and we’ll be back again. Lots of room for kids to roam and explore, sites have plenty of space and are mostly all creekside. Only down side is porta potties instead of a full bath house…for now! They are prestige porta potties though, and the bathhouse is being built as we speak. Lots of may apples blooming, great piece of property in a great location. Also has several tiny houses and safari tents for those who aren’t quite ready for that full sleep on the ground camp experience. Owner is great to work with. Locked gate to the property as well for added sense of safety and relatively few sites allowed us the confidence to let the kids roam and explore and create their own fun.

This spot is wonderful - truly idyllic to be creekside, felt incredibly private and my toddler loved splashing around in the creek. The camping spot was impeccably maintained and had everything we needed. Blair was super responsive and being able to purchase firewood was a nice touch. There is a little bit of road noise but nothing that was a huge bother. We will definitely be back!

This site is accessed via a short trail through the trees down a gentle, sloping hill, and finally by a short stairway, and as such it may not be easily accessible for campers with limited mobility. Located on the grounds of the Duckpond Pottery, The Quack Shack is a secluded treehouse perched along the banks of the French Broad River. The structure is an 8x10 A-frame that transforms via a hinged wall into an open-air cabana with a charming deck that affords spectacular views of the French Broad River and surrounding countryside. The interior of the Quack Shack, with its vaulted 11-foot ceiling and earthen plaster walls, provides a warm glow in a rainforest environment. It is furnished with a comfortable seating area surrounding a coffee table that can be easily converted to a full-size queen bed at night. On the outside deck are beach chairs and a chimenea available for use. The quack shack has electric power (1 outlet only). Amenities include a bathroom located a short walk away at the main building as well as an open-air on-demand shower located off the bathroom on a deck overlooking the French Broad River. Morning coffee and tea is available at The Tea Hut located just a hop, skip, and jump from the treehouse. NOTE: The Duckpond Pottery is a working studio pottery and gallery that is open to the public. It is also home to occasional open-air house concerts on the deck at the pottery. The host generally blocks concert dates, however, it is worth double-checking with the host that there will not be a concert if you desire a quieter experience.
