Weekend Trip to Crockett Landing

We loved our stay at Crockett Landing! What a magical place and memories for our family. We loved campsite 5, it felt like a private island with plenty of room for our 8-person tent. We enjoyed walking the trails on the property, climbing up to the tree fort to stargaze at night, and campfires with s’mores. Paul was a gracious host and has created such a special place which respects the land, but provides nice amenities for a relaxed camping adventure.

Weekend Trip to JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond

Very nice and private site right on the water! Perfect for hammocking and relaxing. Saw a lot of wildlife and the sounds at night will put you right to sleep. Porta potty was nearby and stocked with toilet paper. Purchased some bundles of wood from the main office and they burned nicely. Would definitely recommend and come back!

Really great spot. Would be good for a small group too. Nice breeze all night long. At first was concerned of possible road noise but really none at all. Proximity to Cape Lookout ferry is a plus. Highly recommend and would stay there again.

We had an amazing time. The sun rose right over the water, it was beautiful. Trash was closeby and gas station down the road. Stars were beautiful too - would highly recommend.

4 nights at Campsite at Wallace Meadows Farm

Richard was ready for me at a tent site when I arrived. Miscommunication, I guess because I thought I booked a trailer site. Richard set me up with a site with water hookup and 50 amp service. When I was having trouble with the wifi, he was happy to move me to a back-in site closer to the bathhouse with the above plus septic connection. I found the laundry room (bring quarters) to be quite convenient. The “bathhouse” is separate men’s and women’s bathrooms with showers and clean as can be. This is a 37.5 acre working beef cattle farm with electric fence. Watch your dogs and children. The walking path around the entire farm is a little more than a mile. The Trent river is right down the hill from the RV sites. Internet is good near the bathhouse, which was necessary because I couldn’t get phone service anywhere near the property. Too bad, because I would have liked to purchase some of the meat available for sale. Overall, a great host, and I look forward to returning when I’m back in the area.

3 nights at Crockett Landing

Paul is incredibly hospitable! When we got there, we were the only people booked, so Paul let us have any campsite we wanted. He very kindly chopped some wood for us on the night we got there. We stayed at campsite #4, which included a great raise platform to tent on, which Paul built himself. Paul really has been building a fanstastic spot. The outdoor bathrooms and kitchen station were super appreciated. He had a bunch of free to use equipment, such as fishing poles and kayaks. Over all, fantastic stay. Beaufort is a great hidden spot of NC, I highly recommend this stay!

7 nights at JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond

I have enjoyed the pleasure of Contessa’s beautiful property several times. It is so peaceful and they go out of their way to accommodate each and every guest. It is very well maintained and everyone I have met that is camping love it. It’s my go to place that I know I can just relax, feel safe and enjoy the sound of the ducks and watch the Eagles fly over the lake. I hope to return a couple of times each year. The wildlife I have enjoyed on my visits are, Eagles, Ducks, Wild Turkeys and a beautiful Buck Deer crossing the dam at dawn.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay! The owners were very accommodating and helpful!! We stayed at sunset cove site 1 with our dog, the view was beautiful and the site was very private which we were also able to go fishing off of which was amazing! We will definitely be back soon!

Absolutely an amazing fine so peaceful and beautiful. The wood deck was well kept up and the path was well marked and easy to find the site. Only problem was the path wasn't really cleared up but we had a really bad storm like two nights ago so it was OK. Paul was such a wonderful camp host and super friendly and let us explore the camp ground in the morning which was absolutely amazing!!!!!

Bathhouses for guests and well water throughout property. Fishing, hiking, boating, kayaking, etc on the property. Atlantic Beach and Morehead City only 20 minutes away. Close to several stores and gas stations as well as countless fishing spots and about 7 miles to the end of Hawkers Island Rd where you can catch the ferry to Cape Lookout. Crockett Landing is a haven and sanctuary for wildlife and those who want to connect with nature and have a good time. There is a tote at the Cafe Blue full of games like badminton, volleyball, frisbees, wiffle ball, corn hole, paddle ball etc. The Cafe is an outdoor kitchen for guests to use as they like. Rated Finalist for Top Hipcamp in 2023 and 2024! This is a Family Venue! No Parties and/or drunknesses allowed. We strive to create an environment for nature viewing, stargazing, fishing, and unwinding in nature as camping should be. the historic pond was originally much smaller. We have records that date back to our 6th Great-Grandfather, Joab Fountain, who received a royal grant from the crown in 1773 for the property and then just a grist mill, blacksmith shop and old general store. The property was passed down through the Fountain family until the late 1910's. Originally a creek dammed up for the purpose of the mill it was later dug out in the late 1940's by Lee Baysden. In a long story (that can soon be found on our website/blog) the land was auctioned off in 2007. This landowner dug it out and made it the 22-acre lake that it is today. The property also features 2 smaller ponds and surrounded by woods, swamp, and farmed fields, a total of 84 acres. Divided by Duplin and Onslow County line making it very unique! Chinquapin, NC The store/office is the original detached kitchen from his homeplace, which is the white house just up the street. We still use this today and it has Mr. Lee Baysden's handwriting in the store that states opened June 1956. The pond was owned and fished until the late 1990's. A hurricane damaged the dam and land was sold sometime after. The next owner dug the pond into the lake it is today and fixed the dam. In 2020 My husband Tyler, and I decided to buy the Pond when we saw the signs up for sale in the height of the pandemic. We created JCO, Juniper Creek Outfitters and Guide Service, fall 2020 and began to restore the lake and land to better than ever! We introduced our first Glamping A-Frame cabin in 2021 and in 2024 the Floating Cabin. We host community events such as fishing tournaments, fireworks, music, movie nights, and food trucks. We also host special occasions in the cabins from engagements, honeymoons, birthdays anniversaries. Youth groups and scouts also welcome. Ask about special pricing. Our camp office/store is opened most weekends or by check-in requests and fishing passes available 7 days a week online from sunrise-dark. Our lake features fishing for Bass, Crappie, Bream, Catfish, Bowfin, varieties of Panfish, and more. There is a dock to tie up your watercrafts, such as kayaks and paddle boards. Boats are welcome to park in our overflow parking area and a public boat ramp is 0.25 miles away. Take the Davis ferry to the beautiful beaches of Cape Lookout just a few minutes away! 3 sites with 30-amp power (sites 1, 2 and 3) we welcome generators at the other sites, so long as they are quiet. All with water hookups except tent site 5. One can also pitch your tent close to the water (site 5). Enjoy swimming in the sound, fishing, wind surfing, paddle boarding, kayaks and your canoes!!!! Enjoy it all and only share the space with 4 other sites. No waste dump on site, but one nearby, information available upon request. They charge $25. 20 minutes from shops and restaurants of Beaufort and Morehead city. There is also a ferry to Ocracoke Island from Cedar Island, a peaceful 20-minute drive away. Really great access to a quiet and beautiful part of the outer (inner) banks. Everything you’d ever want to do at the beach is within 30 minutes and the sunrise on the sound is gorgeous. Be prepared for mosquitoes, especially at dusk. Recommend spray or a bug light. Carteret County is now spraying our site for mosquitoes! With Cape Lookout National seashore and Fort Macon State Park under 20 minutes from us, you also have tons of outer-bank activities to choose from.
