Wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to explore, on foot or mountain-bike, anywhere within our 170 acres (or the adjoining 250 acres owned by the US Forestry Service off our North Western border) and are likely to catch glimpses of turkey, beaver, deer, fox, eastern box turtle and the many species of songbird and raptor.
The location is convenient to tons of local attractions for sightseeing and outdoor activities as well as shopping, dining, even wine tasting. We would be happy to supply a comprehensive list of the various local attractions upon request but the following are a few of our favorite things to do within a short drive: visit Linville Falls, Caverns, Gorge and/or Winery; drive the Blue Ridge parkway; tube/kayak down the Catawba river; hike beautiful Crabtree Falls; cross Grandfather Mountains mile high bridge and explore the nearby towns of Spruce Pines or Little Switzerland. The scenic drives to Asheville, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk make them each wonderful day-trip destinations.

Our unique open-air glamping deck features a fully functional kitchen with everything you need to cook comfortably. The heated bathroom includes a large modern shower, bathroom vanity with a lighted mirror, toilet, and fresh towels.
Sleeping arrangements include two separate lofts accessible by angled ladders. One loft has luxurious king bed and the other loft has two twin beds, all with premium linens. The spacious sectional on the main floor can also be used for sleeping, or you can unfold the comfortable queen floor bed. A smart TV is mounted inside the deck for your entertainment.
Bringing friends or extra kiddos? No problem! There’s an outdoor tent pad area available for additional guests.
Can I get a hot tub? Yes, you can! We’ve added a large private hot tub on the lower side of the deck, complete with a heater for those chilly fall and winter nights. We will be adding a polar plunge area by the branch for guests who want to cool off in style.

We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin.
When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there.

When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling.
Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood.
You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7.
Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more.
Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. Many people write that they’ve learned an enormous amount about themselves, about homesteading or permaculture, and about alternate ways of being.

Our 2023 Rove Lite micro camper that sleeps 4 sits on a quiet, peaceful, easy in / out 6-acre property with gorgeous views from the foot of Celo Knob, adjacent to Mt. Open the windows to the sound of the babbling creek (and occasional duck quack during daylight hours), nap or read on the banks of Browns Creek, or cap off a day of adventurous hiking in the Black Mountains with a cool off in the pristine water of our own little dunking hole, thanks to Hurricane Helene.
When evening comes, toast your s’mores to perfection over a campfire or cook supper on the old fashion wood stove adjacent to the large fire pit. Chilly nights could include a soak in the hot tub up the hill.
We have very little light pollution, so nightfall brings a tremendous sky full of stars. Lay back and share the evening with the fireflies.
We are a family of 5 with kids ages 3, 12 and 18. You may see us around the property, on the swings, basketball court, or taking care of the ducks each morning and evening.

Buck Hill Campground has been a family favorite campground for 50+ years. However, in 2024 Hurricane Helene came through and destroyed it. We are currently in the process of redesigning the main part of the campground and bringing all of our amenities back. As of the spring of 2026 our full-service cabins and camping cabins are available to rent.
We are located along 1600 ft of the North Toe River. Buck Hill Campground is the perfect place for families to relax and play! The campground features 150 acres including a 1.5 mile hike to the top of Buck Hill Mountain with amazing views! The river is stocked with trout for fisherman and is also the perfect place to enjoy lazy rides in river tubes.
We have 5 full service tiny home cabins (with full kitchens and bathroom inside) as well as the budget minded camping cabins (with electricity but guests use the campground bath house as there is no plumbing inside). All our cabins have their own fire pit and picnic table.

Welcome to the grand opening of the Beary Cozy Treehouse! We're excited to share our newly completed treehome away from home nestled on Bearwallow Mountain between Asheville and Hendersonville. Finished in February 2026, the cabin is built between four mature mountainside trees and fully stocked with all the essentials. Inside the house you'll find one bedroom, one bathroom, living room, and loft with hammock net. The outdoor space includes a large deck with rocking chairs and hot tub.
The bedroom has a queen bed and memory foam mattress. The bathroom comes complete with a three headed waterfall shower that can also turn the space into a cedar lined steam room. The living room has one side entirely walled with picture windows facing out to Apple Valley, a chaise sectional couch that converts to a queen size pull out bed, and Roku TV. The kitchen contains a small fridge, small freezer, four burner cooktop, air fryer, microwave, blender, and coffee maker. Nestled behind the stairs is an old school diner bench dinette with fresh Cherry wood slab table. Upstairs you'll a cozy loft space with a queen size pull out couch and hammock net. Curl up in a blanket, kick your feet up and get a bird's eye view from the tree tops through the loft windows.
We've got wifi, towels, linens, a guidebook and all the basics waiting for you. We're excited to share our new mountain lodge with you in the first year and look forward to making many improvements in the future. Come stay and enjoy all that Apple Valley has to offer. Our property features three tiny house cabins, each approximately 400 sq ft and thoughtfully designed with one queen bed, two bunk beds, a loft, a full bathroom, a living room, dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen. Each cabin also includes a private porch for relaxing outdoors.
Guests enjoy their own private outdoor amenities, including a grill, picnic table with umbrella, hammock, fire pit with Adirondack chairs, and a cornhole game. Communal amenities include a playground, a shipping-container sauna, pool, hot tub, and a private cold plunge available upon request. Guests must provide their own ice.
This private and secluded property is peaceful and nestled in the countryside, set in a mountain valley with a creek running through it. We provide top-quality stainless steel pots and pans, fast Wi-Fi, and three Roku smart TVs in each cabin. Each unit also has its own private, easily accessible parking—no 4x4 required, as our roads are flat and well maintained.
There are several nearby wineries, breweries, and state parks that are fun and easy to visit. Popular destinations such as Asheville, Greenville, Tryon Equestrian Center, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure are all within one hour of the campground.

Ocean Blue was great!! A true oasis in the wilds of western NC! We asked Kevin, the host, for some area info, and he sent more great ideas for things to do in the area than we could do during this one short trip, and I've lived here for 30 or more years, so I know about most of the "first time here and have already been there" places in the North Carolina Mountains.
The arched cabin was wonderful, fun, and unusual. The headliner of our stay at Ocean Blue was the night sky!!!

We absolutely loved the Glamping Deck!
Beds were very cozy, view was beautiful and we loved being able to raise the screen wall and feel like we were outside. Shower was fabulous- great pressure and luxurious!
Other note: the kitchen was very well stocked and organized. Easy to prepare meals and plenty of space.
We hope to stay again on our next Asheville area getaway!

Me and my family absolutely loved it. The only advice I would push out to everyone is don’t go when It’s too hot or too cold because there’s only fans and the heat only heats up so much of the room they’re also no outlets, but they were very accommodating and anytime I had questions the host responded right away., Would absolutely recommend it!

My husband and I had such an incredible experience! The spot was so cozy and perfect. NGL I was really worried as we were driving there because the forecast changed to the teens and it is much warmer in FL. The second we opened the door not only were we given a cozy interior but such a warm camper. We didn't think the hot tub would be necessary but after climbing pinnacle and other smaller mountains it was a such a treat. The location was in such a good spot between Sylva, Cherokee and Bryson City. I felt like we had a ton of privacy and a much needed break from the world.
Recommendations: Arrive for the first time in daylight. The road looks like a dirt driveway to the first mobile home so we got confused with late night arrival.

Our stay here was truly special. It was just my fiancé and me, and it ended up being exactly the kind of peaceful getaway we needed. Even though the rain kept us from using the fire pit, it honestly turned into one of the best parts of the trip — listening to the steady sound of rain on the deck and in the trees made everything feel incredibly calm and cozy.
The space itself was thoughtfully set up and felt both comfortable and unique, giving us the chance to disconnect from the noise of everyday life and just enjoy being together. It struck a perfect balance between feeling tucked away in nature and still having everything we needed to relax.
We left feeling refreshed, grateful for the experience, and really glad we chose to stay here. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down and appreciate the moment, and we’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, memorable escape.

The campground was peaceful and the hosts were very accommodating we had a clean campsite and a fire pit loaded with wood when we arrived. We loved the spa it was worth the money to relax there after a long days hike. I feel like being able to add on 30 minute increments should be an option also. As opposed to purchasing by the hour. We felt we needed just a little extra time there. The hot shower included with the spa also would not work for us which was disappointing considering this was most of the reason we originally chose to purchase the spa add on. We then tried to shower at the free shower near by but it was just too cold for us despite being heated. “Hot” shower was a stretch there it was warm at best. But overall, enjoyed it. The heater in the tents kept us warm even when the temp dropped to 32 for a night. The privacy at mtg 3 was awesome and loved hearing the church bells across the hills. If you plan to charge your phone make sure to bring a usb Compatible chord.
