10/9/2024 NOTICE: We had some damage to our road due to Hurricane Helene that made it impassable. It has since been repaired and is opened to traffic. There are still some remaining rough areas, but the road is easily passable by passenger vehicles and RV's up to 28ft. Our site was once part of a much larger farm growing tobacco and raising cattle and other farm animals. The existing tobacco barn was built in the early 1960's. The concrete pad used for RV camping was used to store silage for the cows. The non-potable water source is a mountain spring that has been used on the farm since the 1930's. While many tobacco barns in the area have been torn down for their rusted tin roofing and rustic siding, we have worked to restore the barn and preserve its history.

With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

Mrs Diane was a great host and checked on us often to ensure we had everything we needed. Lovely property and loved the creek. Great for kids and pups. I parked at the RV spot with a 24ft campervan and had no issues turning around.

This was a first time for me and my wife camping on our own. The property was easy to get to and beautiful views all around. We enjoyed hiking to the river and exploring the rock house along the way. Camping was peaceful as we were the only people there. Having electricity, water and an outhouse made things better plus they have a lot of essential items if you leave anything. We will be back again. Thanks for a great time away for me and the wife.

Brian and Sarah are outstanding hosts. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into the idea of sharing their lovely land and location. Great communication. We felt very welcome and at the same time like we had our own space. The bathroom is close and for us, staying in winter, fabulously warm. Having the full bathroom with an otherwise “primitive” campsite is *chef’s kiss.* There’s a hand towel, but as expected, bring your own bath towel. The creek sound is peaceful and soothing for sleeping. Provided firewood and moveable picnic table/benches is a blessing. Nestled in the small clearing surrounded by trees and alongside the creek feels very private. We stayed 2 nights and the middle day was solid rain. The ground was soggy but not muddy. Roan Mountain State Park and Carvers Gap are minutes away. Excellent hiking. Highly recommend hiking the balds from Carvers Gap…you can see the balds from the campsite. Walk where you can have one foot in TN and one in NC and views for miles, Banner Elk is about 30 minutes. Boone an hour. The original Mast General store is between and always fun. We’d recommend Kettell Beerworks in Banner Elk and Booneshine in Boone for craft beer and decent pub food.

Michael’s site was easy to find and he was super helpful. We are traveling in February with unpredictable weather. Michael communicated with us about road conditions and even sent us some photos of the site a couple days before we arrived as it had recently snowed. The site was absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing place at happy valley! Super clean and enjoyable. Great hiking trails around the property and has a good brewery/pizzeria 5 minutes down the road. Had a few inches of sleet/snow (they even plowed the road for us to get out)and the place was so great. Stayed very warm with the wood fired stove, Ziggy and Moonpie were adorable ( their donkey and cow) very accommodating and hopefully plan on coming back for another round!

This was a great stay! It’s a nice little cabin with a ton of amenities like a hot shower and WiFi! They also have a Blueray disc player and a tv which was a wonderful surprise! Overall, I would definitely say this place was worth it, considering that it has a cozy feel and it’s right in the middle of some major landmarks like Beech Mountain or the town Blowing Rock and its landmark. (I’d recommend checking out both) Overall. Comfortable stay. Not too small. Perfect for a getaway weekend!

A few hiccups during our stay were troubleshot quickly – after all we were in nature, living off grid and Mother Nature sometimes surprises us. From the soothing sound of the creek, to the quiet of the glamping’s grounds, to the well appointed amenities (inside and outside), our stay at Falls Creek Retreat was a lovely way to bring in the new year! Paul checked in regularly via email/DM; he was a great host from the time we booked to the time we checked out. We felt safe in and around our cabin. We enjoyed strolls alongside the creek and saying hello during our brief interactions w other guests. His serv/grounds guy Ricky was a pleasure to talk with as well. We had a wonderful stay w our pups and cannot wait to return! Cheers to 2026!
