Here you can relax; watch nature; meet our chickens, goats, horse, cats, and dog; learn about archaeology, history, plants, and mead making; and get eggs and homegrown seasonal food. Listen to birdsong and watch clouds during the day, wander a path through our ca. 5 acres of woods, see fireflies in the evening, and star watch at night. Nearby are hiking, horseback riding, historical sites, fishing, antiques, wineries, shooting, and more. We are located in a rural area and have many different domesticated and wild animals so you may hear diverse animal noises and see or smell animal poop, although we try to keep things clean and tidy. Our neighbors have dogs, cattle, and chickens/roosters and occasionally shoot guns during daylight hours (one neighbor is a sporting club with skeet shooting and hunting dogs) but typically our farm is a quiet and peaceful place. We mow regularly and our rooster and chicken ladies wander far and wide eating bugs but, in the summer, they can't get every mosquito and tick so please plan accordingly for your own comfort.

My farm had been untouched for years and only used as hay farming. It is rolling hills known by the locals as "Butterfly Hill" Which the farm is home to many species of butterflies in the summer. I know the area was inhabited by native Americans many decades ago. I have found a few broken arrow heads over the years. The farm is beautiful and quiet. I have a beautiful hiking trail around the property for you to take your fur babies on. The cabin is right on a beautiful stream too. There are several state parks nearby and river tubing within 10 -30 minutes. Hot showers and potable water just a few feet away.

We are within walking distance to Lake Tillary and less than 5 mins to the boat landing. You may bring your boat and park it here while you camp. If they fight with other animals or chase chickens or ducks you may want to test this upon your arrival. Unfortunately, you must keep them on leash at all times. Our County does have a leash law, and should property🌱🌹🌻🚜🚗📬🗑or animals🦌🐂🐏🐐🐰🦃🦆 be damaged or harmed you will be held responsible. For example, if your dog kills a chicken, you buy the chicken🐓🐔🐥. If they harm a horse🐎 or donkey🐴, you are responsible for ALL vet fees. Also, be aware we have coyotes, osprey, hawks, as any rural area does. Small animals must be suprevised. We are not responsible for acts of nature. The barn is beautiful and you are welcome to take photos, however, you are NOT permitted in the barn without supervision. Absolutley NO smoking or fire near the barn. It is over 100 years old and built by my great grand family and is irreplaceable. SPECIAL FEATURE: As I am just beginning the camp on site experience I offer several options and additional services. #1. Some find out after arriving that I teach NC Concealed Carry Handgun Classes. If you wish to participate in a class, it is preferred that you register before the day of the class. I will post classes on this site so that campers will know there will be shooting in the late afternoon. Some chose to camp on other weekends, some choose to go out to eat during those times, and some don't mind either way. #2. I am also much in favor of work for camp site. Some have asked to do clean up or other small jobs for the priviledge to camp. So far this has worked out well, with one exception. Please do not accept an offer to take on a task that you do not know how to do. Example, pulling weeds or trimming if you do not know what a weed verses flower looks like. LOL #3. There is plenty of firewood, see photos, here laying around and some trees down that will make great firewood (bring your own cutting tools.) We also sell firewood by the bundle. #4. Being a camper here gives you the privilege of fresh veggies and fruits that are in season, as well as fresh free range eggs. MAJOR POINT: You must remember this is a working farm and our duties and responsibilities for the farm come first. You must abide by the boundaries. *see map* The creek is the back boundary and should never be crossed onto my neighbors. I will not tolerate any disrespect to my neighbors, what so ever. No! the roosters don't have an off button, neither does the jacka... donkey! When it is hay cutting time, we will cut hay. If you want to hike the property, feel free, know the boundaries and bring a machete to cut your way by the creek/stream in some areas. We have thistle trees and briars, you are welcome to cut all you wish as you go. There are spiders, bugs, and snakes etc. Black snakes, king snakes, runners, and whip snakes belong here and we ask that you do not kill them. Copperheads are here as qell and if you see one, come get me and I will dispatch it for you. .

Great site! Beautiful, big, and private. The picnic table was huge and the fire pit was big and really nice. The best part was the TONS of complementary firewood. One of their dogs hung out with us and our dogs for a few hours before it got dark. There are also 2 barn kittens that hung out with us all night lol. Dayla and Denae were very sweet and generous hosts. We can't wait to go back!

Bekah's camping site was beautiful, my tent was in a circle of trees, pines and hardwoods. The gentle breezes set the stage for a truly relaxing couple of days. Lots of birds to listen to, not buggy, in beautiful meadow. I would definitely stay again. Bekah was warm and friendly, letting me know where to find local services and that she was home and nearby if I had any questions. Just lovely.

We loved our stay at the Loveshack and if you’re thinking of booking this spot, DO IT! The property is stunning, with trails steps away from the Shack and a babbling brook. The bed slept wonderfully and even with 42° temperature nightly lows, we were comfortable with an extra blanket from home. Wendy is a wonderful host who is attentive and respectful. We also brought our beagle, who had a blast playing in the stream and exploring the property with us. Wendy also provided some boardgames and some basic cookware for guests to use as well, which came in handy when we realized our camp stove was broken! We couldn’t have asked for more relaxing, magical, and nature filled weekend. We genuinely cannot wait to come back!

This was our second time at By the Water. Wonderful, secluded place in the country that you have all to your own. There's plenty of space for a group of 6 with tents or car-tents. I can't really comment on whether it would accommodate an RV, but it probably would. You'd need to contact the owner on that. It's only 2-3 miles to a general store if you need something which is very convenient. Lots of space to do a little hiking or fishing and though it's near a state highway you don't really hear the traffic and at night when you're sleeping there's very little traffic anyway. The roosters across the road make more noise than the traffic but is not a real issue, especially if you sleep with foam ear plugs. The owners, Wendy and Adam, are great hosts and are generally very accommodating with special requests. They answer you emails very quickly.

This is just what we are looking for in a Hipcamp. Large property with plenty of privacy, well away from the road. We were able to park in the woods and it felt like we were the only ones there. The Trails on the property were convenient to walk our dog. Host was very friendly and accommodating.

I loved the land. The view was beautiful from the tent site. We caught and released many fish which was a plus. Even though it rained most of the weekend we had a great time overall. I loved that they also have persimmon trees.
