Better Farm is a 65-acre organic farm, animal sanctuary, artist colony, and retreat space. The property features forests, rolling hills, open fields, a pond, sauna, various paddocks for the rescued farm animals, organic gardens, a two-story Art Barn with local FM radio station, gallery, studio and recording space, and a second barn used for events. This second-generation property began as a 1970s commune that since 2009 has been revived and renovated to provide overnight lodging, event space, residencies, and educational opportunities for the curious and creative. LOCATION: We are located 30 miles from Ogdensburg, NY, on Black Lake. 40 miles from Fort Drum, a good commute if you work on Drum. Hubby and I do it everyday and it isn't so bad and 2 hrs from Syracuse. Echo's gas station is located 10 minutes from us and has gas, kerosene and propane. Great pizza and wings and odds and ends. Ogdensburg has Lowe's, Aldi's and Walmart. Thousand Islands is 20 minutes from us. Mini Golf on rte 6 10-15min. Langbrook Meadows Golf is 20 minutes. State Launch Ramp is 15 minutes away. Jacques State park has a beach. AMENITIES: THE CAMPER IS ON OUR PROPERTY 100YDS FROM BLACK LAKE. You'll have full access to the Lake. So feel free to bring your kayaks, paddle boards and canoes, boats and fishing poles (great fishing). We have some kayaks you can use too with lifejackets

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wonderful Family Cabin Getaway! We had a great experience staying at this cozy cabin with our kids. The place was clean, comfortable, and surrounded by beautiful nature. We had so much fun together — hiking, playing games, and relaxing by the fire. It was the perfect spot for a peaceful family escape. We’d definitely come back again

Excellent stay! Beautiful spot, nice and quiet. We spent a decent amount of time just reading books with the windows open. Close to everything. Fire pit was nice, also had a charcoal grill you could use. Would love to stay again, highly recommend!

Sweet little Adirondack-style cabin. Spacious with separate kitchen area, bathroom, porch, fire pit. Etc. Very good communicate from Mike. A nice clean place. 30 min to Mt Marcy for our hike. Recommend!

Lovely clean and comfortable cabin, 15 min from Saranac Lake and 30 min from Lake Placid. Gracious and communicative hosts. This is the second year in a row that we have stayed here and hope to return again next year. One note: The fridge is a large dorm-size fridge w/a tiny freezer section, so if you have ice packs you want to refreeze or keep frozen, you might want to grab a bag of ice to put in a cooler when you are near the cab

1 night at Better Farm

Friendly hosts. Very friendly dogs. Lovely spectacle of a parade of chickens joining in as the pigs got fed in the morning. Hosts greeted us, showed us around, and kept in touch but otherwise left us to enjoy ourselves.

3 nights at Blackfly Camp and Cabin

The cabin was a nice experience, roomy, and had everything needed. The screened in porch was great, gave us some shelter from the critters and the firepit helped as well! Kitchen area is very usable, one hotplate was handy but if you plan to do significant cooking bring a stove. Fit 4 people between the full bed, the futon, and the included cot. Firewood and eggs were a nice touch!
