Can't say enough about Al's camp! Al adds a lot of extras..a very clean outhouse, lots of firewood and non potable water. We had a nice time on the trails that are nicely kept. We didn't have fly on tent so the fireflies gave quite a show! Thank you so much for a lovely camping experience :)

We camped with our 16' Casita trailer for several nights at Pooh's Korner. Matt and Sheryl are wonderful hosts- they found us a spot that fit our trailer, made sure we were comfortable, and provided lots of information about the area. The sites are very private, and the location is ideal if you want to explore the WG area. We took a tour of the Farm Sanctuary, just down the road. And we loved watching all the fireflies at night! We're planning to return in the fall! P.S.-Get the honey- it's wonderful!

Weekend Trip to Minglewood Camp

Awesome little cabin next to a bubbling little creek. I was pleasantly surprised ability to drive right up to the camp site. The best pleasant surprise were three lights; one in the cabin one in kitchen area, and one in the toilet area. These made a huge difference.

We had the best time at Camp Whitman! The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. The air conditioners in the bedrooms were so nice to have with the heat. The bed were super comfortable. We enjoyed walking around the camp and fishing in the little pond. Bryan was helpful for anything we needed and only a text away if we had questions or needed anything. We will definitely be back! 10/10 recommend ☺️

Weekend Trip to Camp Whitman on Seneca Lake

Quite a bit off the road and well maintained, quiet cabin located about an 8 min walk from the water. We couldn’t see the lake from the cabin but we could hear the boats. Cabin renters next to us were quiet and friendly. The description is spot on. The cabin had anything we would’ve needed for the overnighter. Sadly no place to swim but it’s ok, the quiet reprieve was a chill ending to a super nice day. We visited local creameries and highly recommend Shtayburne Creamery!!

Weekend Trip to Camp Whitman on Seneca Lake

Bryan is kind, welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed. Very relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful views down by the water! Heron had a fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, and fire ring for food and cooking. Each bedroom had a box fan, which was nice! Thank you for having us, we had a great time.

Upon entering into the site you'll find yourself in a calming plot of mature pine, oak, and cherry trees where a variety of species of songbirds and a family of hawks have found a home. Parking on the property is a very short accessible walk from the tent site. There is a fire pit at the site and guests may access our personal kitchen garden for greens and veggies. A private bathroom and shower with free laundry (yes, I said free laundry!) and drinking water is available for use by guests in the main house. Wheelchair users will need a ramp in order to access the main house; we don't have one at this time, unfortunately.Our site is a great location to serve as an affordable hub for experiencing all that Cayuga and Seneca Lakes have to offer. We are just a 5 minute drive or 20 minute bike ride from the small town of Trumansburg, home to the Tompkins County Fairgrounds (where Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival is held) and some of the best local waterfall swimming holes, to which we can give you detailed directions. Taughannock Falls State Park, Finger Lakes National Forest, and the Seneca Lake Wine Trail are all within a short drive or bike ride from the site. A 20 minute drive east will bring you to downtown Ithaca, where you can visit the renowned Ithaca Farmer's Market, Cornell University, Six Mile Creek, and plenty of bars and restaurants. Ithaca is also home to series of serene swimming holes at the base of waterfalls where locals and visitors relax during the summer. If you choose to go west you'll end up in Watkins Glen where you can check out the 200-foot cliffs and 19 waterfalls of the dreamlike landscape at Watkins Glen State Park, known as one of the best state parks in the U.S.We are both very experienced backpackers, cyclists, and bikepackers. Kimberly is a bike organizer and routemaker who runs Radical Adventure Riders Finger Lakes, a community for BIPOC and FTWN-B (femme, trans*, women, non-binary) bikepackers. She's happy to provide guidance on road, gravel, and mountain biking in the area and share her library of local bike routes. We have a work stand and tools available to fix any small issue you might have on your bike as well. We can also tell you about the hiking, backpacking and cross country skiing in the local area, much of which can be accessed by a 10 minute drive to Finger Lakes National Forest.We ask that those who stay on their property please respect the space and the land. We have a small, delicate ecosystem with newly-planted fruit trees and shrubs, so please minimize your impact on existing vegetation, trees, and soil. Also located nearby are the National Women's Hall of Fame, and many state parks, including Cayuga Lake State Park, Seneca Lake State Park, Taughannock Falls State Park, Watkins Glen State Park, Buttermilk Fall State Park, within short distances of this site. Thorndon Meadows

Looking for some peace and quiet? Up for an adventure with rustic camping? Our property was once part of a much larger business farm. It has not been under a tractor since 2010, except for mowing. We have been hosting for HipCamp since 2019 and we are eager to meet you and hear what you think of our acres. The gorgeous sunsets over Lake Ontario are world renowned, and our primitive camp sites are just one half mile from the lake. The terrain is hilly, elevation ranges from 320' - 380'. Due to the location on the hill, great views of the spectacular sunrise can also be seen (from the ground) and pretty much most of the sunsets. Excellent opportunities for bird watching, we have seen everything from goldfinches to bald eagles, with sightings of indigo buntings, sparrowhawks, snow and Canada geese, according to season. Wildflowers, berries and herbs are in abundance, when in season. Being right near the fourth largest Great Lake the campgrounds is a great spot for cloud watching, kite sailing and star viewing - there is no light pollution. Fresh water divers? There are dozens of sunken shipwrecks in Lake Ontario and in April 2019, NOAA proposed the designation of a national marine sanctuary in eastern Lake Ontario to protect historically significant shipwrecks and maritime heritage resources. Oh, and did I mention the world class fishing? Co-owner, Valerie, is a permaculturist and welcomes conversation about anything environmental. The flattest part of the hill was once under cultivation but since 2010 has been allowed to revert to woodlands. I farm trees, the only animals here will be the ones that Nature sends (or if you bring a pet). Fruit and nut trees have been planted, as well as some berries, so since 2010 they are not very large. My trees are very important. Please take care not to injure them. Seasoned firewood is plentiful from the prunings as well as from deadfall and extra can be purchased at the farm - $6. per bundle. (Per New York State DEC regulation, untreated firewood may not be moved over 50 miles.) At the edges of the property you can see neighbors' houses but campsites are secluded from the neighbors as well as from each other. All campsites are drive in but you may be driving across a mown field. Sterling Nature Center (Great Blue Heron rookery!) and Sterling Renaissance Festival are each 4 miles away. Gas station and farm store (Ontario Orchards -- great home-baked pies there!) are each 3 miles away. Sterling Creek Canoe- Kayak Launch - 3.5 miles. Fair Haven Beach State Park and Little Sodus Bay - 7.5 miles. City of Oswego and NY State University - 6 miles. And, if you are of that persuasion, the nearest McDonald's and Subway are 7 miles and Walmart is 10 miles away. Because I could be anywhere on the property and I would like to be available when you arrive, please advise me if you know you will be arriving after 5 PM. All revenue from camping goes back into the property to continue to improve your experience. While we are open to winter camping, the farm road is on a hill that must be navigated to reach the campsites. In snowy or icy (or extremely muddy) conditions this may prove impossible for a typical vehicle and even give some 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles some trouble. There is room at the bottom of the hill for off road parking for one vehicle. It would then require hiking up about 500 feet to reach campsites. Also, when the weather is dropping below freezing (which could be between late October -- early May), you are advised to bring your own water as water left overnight will freeze. Please take responsibility for the energy you bring to this space. Campfires are encouraged but bonfires are not allowed. If you are unsure, just ask. This is also a 'leave nothing but footprints' campsite. We do not have trash removal. Thorndon Meadows acknowledges we are on native land originally inhabited by the Cayuga (Guyohkohnyoh – The People of the Great Swamp) of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy who were scattered by European settlers in the early 1800’s. Please engage in 'active raccoon control' meaning, lock any food in the car before bed or when not in use. Raccoons are naturally shy animals that prefer to retreat when they sense humans nearby. Removing access to food sources is the most effective raccoon control. Adventuring? Nearby attractions are a NYS specialty. This is a great location for anyone visiting Fair Haven Beach, Sterling Nature Center or nearby Chimney Bluffs. The NYS Renaissance Festival is only a few minutes’ drive.
