Once a RV camping park called "Thunder Hill Campground" in the late 1960's early 1970's, the land sat mostly unused for 15 years before Rachel came to steward it 20 years ago. We are 107 acres of forest, a 9 acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a 2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site. There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing, Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful. We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet. There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city. Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. Links and information can be provided to campers that stay with us that are looking for entertainment & excursions. We are near Albany, Berne, Catskill, Cairo, Cobleskill, East Durham, Greenville, Hunter, Knox, Medusa, Oak Hill, Middleburgh, Schoharie, Westerlo, Windham.

For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

Our family had an amazing stay at Bearkill. The site completely exceeded our expectations. We were looking for a quiet, private campsite to enjoy with our young kids and this spot was perfect. There is tons of open space to spread out tents with complete privacy, along with a super cozy cabin. The other amenities like a grill and a shower with hot water really made camping with kids more enjoyable. The kids really enjoyed the creek and toys Peggy and David provided. Really great site, really great hosts.

We really enjoyed our stay here! While we only stayed for a night, it was evident that it was equipped with everything you would need. We stayed in the small cabin, which was a very short walk from the restrooms, had a great view of the sunset, AND had AC. Finally, we wanted to say a huge thank you to the incredibly kind staff who checked us in upon arrival and made us feel right at home. We will certainly come back someday to try out their tent site options!

As many reviews have stated, it was a great spot a glamping-style romantic getaway. Weekend Trip to Otters and Eagles Cabin

Our mother/daughter; aunt/niece weekend at Otters and Eagles Cabin was a top-tier glamping experience. We liked everything about our stay. As someone who loves to camp and cook, I was thrilled to find that the thoughtful host provided plenty of kitchen items, making it so easy to prepare meals for our group. The cabin itself is nestled right in the beautiful woods with nature all around. We spent our mornings drinking coffee and our evenings sipping wine down by the gorgeous pond. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the toilet facilities were well-maintained. I had only to ask if we needed anything, like an additional propane canister for cooking, and Mark would run it down the hill himself! This level of care and comfort made the whole experience smooth, accessible, and relaxing, which was especially appreciated by my 79-year-old mom. Between relaxing by the pond, nature walks, birdwatching, gathering around the amazing outdoor stone fireplace, and having the extra option for platform tenting, the setup was flawless. There was a slope down from parking, but a cart is provided to help move your gear. I have absolutely no criticisms of this property. We would go back anytime!

We absolutely adored our stay at the Little Witch Cottage and honestly wish we could have stayed longer! It was the perfect way to kick off our vacation in New York. The cottage was cozy, thoughtfully put together, and had such a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Caitlin was an amazing host super responsive, incredibly kind, and she shared some fantastic local recommendations that made our trip even better. Weekend Trip to Bearkill Brook Campsite

We typically would not spend this much to camp but, since we (2adults & 2 dogs) only had 2 nights, we really did not want to bring all of our camping gear. Well, I must say it was worth every dollar and we really wish we had more time to stay and play. We may have been a bit spoiled with all of the amenities, not to mention, the space and all of the fun outdoor games provided. Our 2 dogs had as much fun as we did… maybe more. It was like we had our own private campground with facilities ALL TO OURSELVES. The mix of sun (big open field) and shade was perfect. The creek along the camp was fun and fantastic for hiking and frolicking. Star gazing was amazing in the big field with a masterfully made fire pit. We applaud David’s craftsmanship on the cabin, as well as the bathhouse and other structures. This is definitely the perfect spot for first time campers, especially with kids and pets. Peggy and David were outstanding hosts and we were quite grateful they were just up the road, as we needed a jump start upon our departure. We certainly hope to be back for an extended stay with more people. Thanks for everything Peggy & David!

7 nights at The Deer Crib at Flat Rock Farm

This is a beautiful, quiet place. You can sit out under an apple tree on soft grass and listen to woodpeckers and owls and watch rabbits and chipmunks. You can go hours without really hearing another human sound. The cabin has gas lamps which give it a wonderful glow at night. There's as much firewood as you want. You can walk right down into Tibbits State Forest and do a five mile loop -- I did it three times and never met another soul. A little prep helps. The cabin had a small generator but you wouldn't want or be able to run it constantly, so prepare to run off battery packs. Regular cell signal is weak and intermittent. There's not a lot of nearby grocery options so stock up before you arrive, and of course there's no fridge (I took a cooler of ice). If you're looking to disconnect and live like a monk for a bit, it's everything you want. Marlene and Craig were excellent hosts, friendly, accommodating, and responsive. I was very grateful and happy to be there.

Weekend Trip to Catskills Farmhand Cabin

Green. Scenic, Quiet. Private spot to unplug and unwind. Denise is welcoming and super responsive. The cabin itself is very well equipped for daily needs and can easily house two people. Looking forward to returning soon!

Weekend Trip to Palsgraf estates

The host was very nice and helpful, cabin was clean, sheets were clean, bed very comfortable, big fire pit and plenty of firewood. The only downside was the porta potty, just did not match everything else, it was full of flies and felt uncomfortable.

3 nights at Dickensen Farm: Cabins & Camping

This place was amazing! Not difficult to find, 20 minutes away from everything in every direction- far enough away to get away from people and close enough to get what you need and want. Kim was incredibly accommodating, very quick to respond and super friendly! Would highly recommend staying here and will be planning a trip back. The area and property are gorgeous, cabin and outhouse are clean and easy to get to with a stunning view, especially at night. If you're trying to unplug and just enjoy everything Vermont and New York has to offer, this is the place. (I grew up on farms and farmland, and I have to say, this is one of the cleanest, well kept I've seen... The whole area at that!) Thank you Kim and Family for a wonderful few days!
