While we are in a rural area, you will be 10 min north of the town of Espanola and 5 min from the Ohkay Owingeh rest stop (with a great El Parasol Norte takeaway restaurant- don't miss their tacos!). It's easy to run to Espanola's Wal-Mart, Lowes or other stores if you forgot anything or need to purchase supplies. In terms of the campsite, our 5 acre property is a narrow agricultural strip that extends from the irrigation acequia (ditch) at the top of the dirt road down into a dense bosque (forest), ending in a path to the Rio Grande. The campsite is in the bosque (forest) a little distance from our house in the privacy of the cottonwoods and elms. At this time we do not have other campsites sharing the space so you will be camping by yourself and have the bathroom to yourself. It is a short walk from the camp to the Rio Grande where you'll find stairs to the river. The river is wade-able in the late summer but in winter/spring the currents are strong and not advisable for young children or non-swimmers. You and your family are welcome to walk back to our farm to interact with goats, chickens, and our friendly dogs, use the playground, or swing on the large swing by the pond. This property is at its best Summer through mid Fall when all is green, the pond is full and river is calmer. Winter camping is still doable but may include snow, a frozen pond, and leafless trees, as well as visiting sandhill cranes. The site is spacious, has a firepit with a cover. We can supply wood if you need it (just text us). In summer we have mosquitos being so close to river so come prepared with some serious sprays or creams- citronella candles and herbal stuff won't be effective here. You will have a lot of privacy in the bosque, and it is relatively quiet from urban noise. But you will be in agricultural country, so you will hear sounds of roosters, horses, goats, peacocks as well as our neighbors doing their thing in the farm land all around you. There can be dogs barking so if any of this noise bothers you at night you will want to bring earplugs.

Most people have no problem finding my place by entering my address in their GPS. However, I have had 2 HipCampers report their GPS directed them to a road called Camino de las Brisas or Las Brisas Loop. Turning here will lead you to a steep, dangerous road where it will be very difficult to turn around if you're in an RV and impossible with a trailer. Continue on Camino de Las Huertas to Senda Osa Vieja. It's marked with a street sign, a stone monument with brass plate. There's also a blue "private road" sign with a dragon. This land was purchased in 1956 by my archeologist parents because of the ancient pueblo site (dating from 1000 A.D.) and pit house sites (dating from 800 A.D.) Until the mega drought seriously impacted the land, a stream ran through it year round. Now it is only intermittent. Across the valley from this property, and within view of the campsite, is the site of a Spanish Colonial village, San Jose de las Huertas. It dates from the 1700s and is now owned by the Archeological Conservancy. This area is rich in history both Native American and Spanish. Learn more about this land: Located in the high desert 20 minutes from Albuquerque and 40 minutes from Santa Fe. Views of Sandia mountains, and near historic archeological sites. Within a 10 minute drive are popular mountain biking trails. Petroglyphs are a 20 minute, moderately strenuous hike from property. Very peaceful, quiet and safe. The location and convenience of the spot can't be beat. We ran into a bit of an issue with muddy conditions trying to get into the parking spot but it sounds like thats very irregular. The view is beautiful and had it not poured rain, the fire pit would have been lovely! For sure on my list of places to revisit. Thanks for the hospitality Ben.

Great little spot close to Santa Fe. Stayed two peaceful nights at this tiny surprise. Saw some fun things during the day in town. Will request to stay when we pass through again.

7 nights at Mountain Pines Valley View

Wonderful spot. Was extremely quiet, peaceful and beautiful. With this spot, you will get the view of the sunset through the trees pretty much every single day. I am a writer and business owner, and this provided a really great inspirational spot for me! Highly recommend! When I went, the owner had just poured in new loose gravel, so leveling for my 28ft trailer was a bit tough, but if you bring ample equipment, very doable!

Had a great time. Felt private and very nice to have hookups in the Jemez. Great find! Beautiful area with lots to do very close by. Easy hikes to hit springs and falls.

Weekend Trip to Mountain Pines Valley View

Ben and his campsites were great!! Super hospitable, easy communication and he did everything to make sure we had a great time! Sites are level and close to hookups for easy connection. He even made a pull-through pathway for one of the sites so we could easily drop the camper and go drive around the woods! Beautiful area, lots of great backroads, and a super safe neighborhood. We even had deer browsing outside our camper right at Ben’s sites!!! Great experience, highly recommend, both for the RV hookup sites (which I used) as well as his tent sites, which looked great. Thanks Ben!!

We appreciated Luis’ thoughtfully placed, level camping spots very close to Santa Fe. We spent one night, arriving late, and leaving early. The space was quiet, and perfect for what we needed. Although we didn’t meet Luis in person, he was very communicative via email.

Only stayed one night. Very accommodating and understanding land owner. Planned to have a late check in time, so owner had left a light out to guide us. Instructions very clear on how to get there. The land is right next to her house however it doesn’t feel intrusive. Greeted us in the morning and showed some trails we could go explore nearby. Weather was a little windy in the morning which she said was unusual but made packing up a little difficult. However the land was leveled and a perfect fit for my truck and rooftop tent. Would recommend this area to other campers.

5 nights at Balloon Fiesta RV Parking Space

Our friends & I had a great time camping in our RVs at this location during the Abq Balloon Fiesta! It’s about 2 miles from the festival park, in a safe/gated location, and centrally located to so many things. The best part was waking up and having coffee and breakfast in our PJs while watching balloons drift literally right over us on one of the mornings we didn’t actually go in to the park. One even landed at the lot right across from us and the balloon crew let us watch it deflate. Such a cool experience. We had water and electricity and plenty of space to enjoy ourselves. Host was helpful and responsive to all our needs. Camping was a unique experience for those 5 nights and a memory we’ll cherish forever.
