The camp was founded 40 years ago as a summer camp for kids. We continue to offer camps for children and their parents and grandparents (family camps), as well as welcome adults and other groups to enjoy the vast and wild high desert nature up on this ridge.

Register for our nature education activities and resources lead by The Wilderness Institute (available for all of our guests). These topics include sustainability, recycling, composting, water conservation, wildfire prevention, outdoor safety, and nature awareness along with the use of our hiking trails.

There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please).
IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed.
We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day.

The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country.
We have 8 Sites to choose from. (No large RVs at 4, 7 or 8) Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Free potable water is available as well as a portable toilet.
For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a cast iron grill. Every site has a standing charcoal grill, with tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. We hang a hand washing jug at every site for your convenience, with potable water, but do not suggest this for drinking water source.
The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. The springs converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch.
We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 2 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion.
We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others.
I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible.
We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can.
And as always, Veterans, LEOs, and Fire Fighters are always free for one night up to 4 guests. Just book your reservation, and show us your ID during your stay, and we will reimburse you for your last night with us.

You can explore Native American ruins that were inhabited by some 2,000 people between 700-1100 AD. The grounds are wonderful to walk with a little lake which draws elk, deer, hawks, blue herons, etc.

Diamondback rattlesnakes, black widow spiders, quail, rabbits, and the rare horned lizard all call our land their habitat. Stay alert! Issues with wildlife are very rare; any concerns will immediately be handled by host.
Your Camp Host, Chef Üdø, is onsite most days and evenings, and has 30 years' experience in the catering and private chef biz, and as a camp host. He's happy to coordinate hot meals for you and your companions! No more need to go into town to get a pizza or some icky fast food! We will make you a homemade pizza, dry-aged steak, brined chicken, smoked Wagyu burger, or lasagna...all in-house. Vegan, vegetarian, kosher, low-sodium, and most other dietary restrictions are no problem! Site 1 can accommodate RV's and tall setups as well as tents. The hill going to the site is short, approx. 0.2 ml. Its dirt and rock and a little steep but everything from bikes, motorcycles, sedans and buses can easily navigate without bottoming out, just take it slow. It has beautiful mesa views with plenty of privacy and nice outhouse within 50 yards. Madrid and sister village, Cerrillos are loaded with places to explore on foot or by other means. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and/or a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.

We have a screened in gazebo with a propane fireplace, a gas BBQ, outdoor shower, kayaks and hammocks for all to enjoy. Please do not be shy. Introduce yourself to the other campers. Share stories, make s’mores. Sing songs!!

This glamp zone occupies only 1.25 acres. Part of our mission in creating this space is to bring folks together. We encourage campers to mingle. Maybe organize a group float down the Chama. The float from just above Bodes to our very own shore is wonderful. It takes about two hours. There is one challenging spot, but beside that, the float is calm and tranquil.
Please be aware, we have cats, chickens, goats, donkeys, horses and dogs that live on the property. Your pets are welcome only if they are guaranteed to not pester or hurt our posse of pets. Also, we will not tolerate excessive barking or inappropriate running around or bothering ourselves or other guests. You must pick up all your and your pets waste and take it with you when you leave.

I absolutely loved staying here! The camp gives off the most welcoming, friendly vibe amd the hosts, equally so. The facilities are nice and kept very clean. Although this camp is close to Santa Fe, it feels secluded in the forest with amazing views of the surrounding mountains.

Weekend Trip to Santa Fe Treehouse Camp & Wilderness Preserve
It was just what we needed, the feeling of tent camping with trees all around, fresh air, a campfire, but with comfortable beds, an outlet for my CPAP, showers, and a full kitchen. The hosts were wonderful and we recommend the archery course.

This was our second over night stay at ECC. Years ago we went on a vacation with no plan and found ECC. We fell in love with the peace. Both my now wife and I found relief from the stress of our jobs and can bring our dogs without worry. We love it so much we got married at ECC. My stay was absolutely amazing. I only wish it could’ve been longer however, the 3 inches of rain was coming in was too much for me as a single camper. This is my first time camping by myself and as a single woman, I felt very safe in this camp. The hosts were very kind and truly responsive to every single thing I needed. I thought I was lost, but I found it very quickly without a problem. The sites were amazing as you can see sunrise was gorgeous however it also indicated 3 inches of rain coming and I had to bug out. I would definitely be here again next year.

Brad and Ciana were so generous. After the heavy rains in New Mexico, they kindly offered to let us stay additional nights for free until the rain’s passed because the rain caused the roads to flood and it was hard to get out.
The campground itself is a little bit in the mountain, so you definitely need an SUV or 4 x 4 car.
The actual campground itself is very well organized. There are outlets for charging your phone, a kitchen to cook things and also night lights. The bathrooms are also very nice and included showers as well that were hot
Aside from our mistake bringing a compact car. I had a wonderful experience and highly recommend

Ms. Depree’s land is very beautiful. At this camp, you are allowed to travel up further into the woods to tuck yourself in. This was a peaceful experience. The host has very detailed instructions for you to find the property. She is very helpful and kind. We were given maps for hiking and allowed to borrow missing items. There’s plenty of wood for fire use here. Instead of packing in, being a hand axe!

Ciana was very helpful when I arrived to be sure I knew where to go and amenities. I had a nice quite primitive camping spot. It was setup well and exactly what I was looking for. Having good bathrooms and a place to do dishes was a bonus. Looking forward to staying again.
