Perfect peaceful spot to relax and shut down. We didn't really need anything but we knew April was there if we did. There are a lot of little things April leaves in the cabin in case you forget anything which is appreciated. It is decorated so cute with little lights inside which I appreciated at night. The spot is gorgeous with the sound and sights of a brook and trees. What more could you ask for? Sitting by the fire watching the moon rise and sipping coffee with the sun rise was so enjoyable. We didn't bring our dogs but will in the future. A great spot for them. You are in nature and have total peace but with the security of knowing April is right there if needed and hiking and stores are close by if you need them. Highly recommend this spot.

I had a great time camping here! It was quiet, private, peaceful and had a great little fire pit set up. There was water at the site also which made the trip so much easier for me. The land was beautiful. Marcus was communicative and helpful and even brought some more firewood when I ran out. I hope to go back there again next season.

Weekend Trip to Vermont Homestead
Frank and Julie were the picture of hospitality! They were engaging to talk to, so curious about our lives, kind, and great at checking in about miscellaneous needs we might have (like do we have enough camp supplies, etc).
The Studio is so precious as is the beautiful gravel road their property is on, their sweet lab, Skye, and the stars at night! I loved this getaway -- thanks Frank and Julie

1 night at Pine Brook Retreat
Cutest little cabin nestled in a well loved place. The area built out for camping was so lovely and everything in the cabin was well thought out. We were unfortunately there during a burn ban but there was a lovely propane fire we were able to use and it was perfect. Listening to the creek while drinking my morning coffee was so so perfect.

Easy to access site, very peaceful brook running right next to camp. Camp platform, composting outhouse, and picnic table- all neat and new. Very simple, completely private, great communication with owners leading up to visit.

I enjoyed tent camping at barter towns, I went mainly to just set camp up and then go explore but I ended up socializing with some pretty cool people ! El was very welcoming and friendly and I’d definitely come back!

El was a fantastic host that made this independently-run campground an amazing stop for a weekend. He’s generous and welcoming, provided fresh eggs and coffee, a bonfire, showed me to the farmers market - I don’t think I’ve ever been to a campground like this before. Awesome hiking and lakes nearby :)

Before diving back into the grind, we snuck away for one last summer retreat—and the Studio delivered.
Secluded yet convenient: It felt like cabin camping, but with real home comforts (think hot showers and no hole-digging required). The Studio was 15 minutes from a supermarket, 5 minutes from a local market, and just 3 minutes from fresh eggs and frozen meat that made our mouths water.
Natural entertainment: We nibbled wild blackberries along the property trails, stepped into the barrel sauna for a sweat session with a hit of aromatherapy bliss (ahhh), and watched flames dance in the fire pit while stars twinkled overhead. Mornings came with surround-sound birdsong and a picture window framing trees doing their best shimmy show.
Hospitable hosts: Missing camping skills? No problem—the hosts had us covered. They shared spot-on local recommendations tailored to our interests and left thoughtful surprises (which we’ll let you discover for yourself).
This place definitely earned a spot on our repeat list.

Weekend Trip to Pine Brook Retreat
What a perfectly wonderful, private, peaceful site surrounded almost completely by the shade of tall pines and maple trees with a nearby babbling brook. Nothing fancy, simplicity is exactly what I was looking for and I wasn’t disappointed. True camping feel without dealing with a tent! The A frame is super cozy and the two comfy air mattresses were clean and made up with fresh sheets, spreads and extra blankets. Thoughtful touches included bug spray, small lantern, games, percolator (and mini coffee pouches), twinkling lights and other basic essentials such as mugs, plates, pan, axe, oven mitts. The fire pit was already set up with kindling plus a large bin full of assorted sizes of wood close by. Fresh water was always available and refilled at my request but I honestly never even had to ask. :)
The rechargeable fan was a lifesaver as it was extremely hot and humid during my stay. It was perhaps my favorite camping “luxury” of all!
April is an awesome host, very responsive to your needs. I loved her way of making me feel alone, yet not. Communication and instructions were easy, and she brought a lot of my stuff up from the camp to my car with her ATV. Another lifesaver! I’m on the older side, my body is nothing what it used to be and her help was IMMENSELY APPRECIATED.
This was my very first experience with Hipcamp and I am extremely happy with my stay. Will definitely be booking again!

BarterTowne was a unique and engaging experience for my partner and I. We got to experience true off-grid living, cook meals made from local produce, and enjoy a clear night sky with ZERO light pollution. Both the host and the locals showed unparalleled hospitality. Our host was nice enough to show us around and give detailed explanations of the different projects on the property that made it sustainable.

El is an excellent, conscientious host. It was a fantastic experience with such a sense of freedom in nature. Being able to really experience that for the first time in a supportive community was wonderful. Lots of memorable campfire conversations and time to reflect on things. And my heart was completely stolen by the cats, Mr. Fang & Retail are in my heart forever!

What a great little cabin in the woods. Short walk in, very secluded. Comfy beds, big fire pit for cooking. Very peaceful. "The Lodge" happens to be in a circle of Sycamore trees and we saw a huge owl. . . Is this a Twin Peaks reference???? 😂🦉☕🥧🍒🚦

The brook at the bottom of the campsite was the most calming sound ever. Spent the day trying to catch frogs with my daughter and had a fire at night. The cabin gets pretty hot and there’s no screen for the door, bring a fan for sure. The tics were pretty bad when went. April was extremely accommodating and the stay was perfect !

We camped in a wildflower meadow, firefly shows every night, a hidden fern gully in the trees, and no sounds but nature. Marcus was there if needed, but this was a nice private space to enjoy. Groceries and other amenities are not far, but easily avoided. 10/10 camping.

Weekend Trip to Pine Brook Retreat
What a gorgeous, peaceful spot - totally surrounded by nature, yet only a few hundred steps from the road. Very convenient for my 1 night stay. Would highly recommend, it would be even more fun to camp with family or a small group of friends. I hope I get to visit again soon! Thanks April!!!
