Weekend Trip to Fangthorn Forest

Cheryl and her husband were such wonderful hosts! The site on their property is gorgeous! The site is a mix of slightly elevated ground with lower ground that descends into a creek bed. It is beautifully shaded and well-maintained. It was very picturesque. There are well-maintained trails to hike through the property, composting restroom accommodations, a fire pit, firewood, and a little fairy glen to relax peacefully in. They were so welcoming of our dogs and great with the kids! They let us know when feeding time was so that the kids could feed the animals with them. They interacted with the baby calves, which was likely more fun for me than for the kids. They made themselves available for everything we needed and were so helpful. This was a first time camping experience for the kids and so we kept it short to a single night. It was the perfect spot, though. Even though the weather wasn't great for us, we had a great time and will be back.

1 night at Saddle Ridge Retreats Lawrence

Jon and Pat were amazing hosts. Responsive and helpful. We absolutely loved our stay here and will be back. The free roaming horses and cows were incredible. We woke up to horses grazing steps from our door. It was unreal, quiet, and peaceful. Just what we needed.

2 nights at Harmony Lake Farm Park & Playground

This was certainly one of the most beautiful campsites we’ve ever been to! Ken and Joan were hands down fantastic hosts. We loved our stay at this little slice of heaven and just 40min outside of the city!

We didn’t need anything. Everything was there. And fresh eggs! We’re definitely planning to come back for a longer stay.

Milo Farm's is a relaxing oasis that helps reset your mental health. We went there for a girls' trip and it was the most relaxing weekend. I highly recommend this farm to anyone seeking a chance to unplug and unwind.

Weekend Trip to Perdue Homestead Farm

Absolutely wonderful experience! We were able to order ahead of time as well as purchased two dozen absolutely delicious eggs!! It was a wonderful nice and secluded space for our dogs to run a leash and enjoy the outdoors! This is our second time camping here and I know it will be coming back again and again! The host are so friendly and welcoming 10/10 would HIGHLY recommend this spot!!

1 night at Milo Farm Sacred Land

Milo Farm is a wonderful place for connecting to nature. I camped in “Free Field” where there are many primitive sites surrounded by a creek. The grounds are well kept — the field is wilderness, with wide trails throughout. There’s a fully stocked and clean compost toilet at the top of the hill (5 min walk). Be sure to request the transport wagon as cars aren’t allowed near the campsites. I highly recommend Milo for anyone needing to escape the city to recharge their batteries in nature.

3 nights at Harmony Lake Farm Park & Playground

Ken and Jean were very hospitable during our stay. Our 3 teenagers really enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball, which was set up for our stay. Due to high winds, Ken recommended we instead stay in the Fenway area campsites and it was perfect for that scenario. When the weather turned sour Ken even set up a table for us in the little house so we could cook and eat out of the wind. I really felt taken care of the entire time we were there; he even donated dog biscuits to the animal shelter I work at. Aside from the hospitality, the farm was amazing. Horses, chickens, peafowls and peacock, a pig, an emu, dogs, cats! We got to interact with so many animals if we wanted to. I loved feeding the pig. The land is truly lovely with nicely spread out campsites, lots of trees, thoughtful lighting at night to find your way, and a really nice lake with a small island. It’s a little slice of paradise. I enjoyed the ability to purchase firewood and fire starters and farm fresh eggs. The less I have to pack the better. I will say there is only one bathroom, so if you have a large group you might consider setting up a privacy tarp and outdoor latrine near your site. We had a fabulous stay and I can only imagine how lovely it is during summer. Would be great for families with young children as well! Highly recommend for a stress free getaway. 5/5 stars.

2 nights at Milo Farm Sacred Land

I love visiting this land and try to come out here at least once a year. I'd love to make it out more frequently. The land has tons of charm, a lot of really unique characteristics and energy, and Loni and the rest of the farm team are amazing hosts that always make me feel really welcome.

We rented the hippie trailer for a couple of days. It was perfectly suited to our needs and the property is lovely. We rented the art cart for a time to just roam around. That was a blast. We got our cards read and that was also enlightening. Although there was a surprise snow storm, Lori got a space heater up to the trailer and we were cozy and warm! All and all a very rewarding weekend!

So enjoyed my weekend in the Bunkhouse. Grateful to have Milo Farm so close to Kansas City for a weekend getaway to be in nature. I feel very safe and secure there, and getting away from the hustle and noise was much needed.

While we ended up staying in the hobbit hut instead, was a much better choice for the getaway we were needing. What was originally a resting point to go to a convention Saturday, ended up being where we stayed the entire weekend. The QUIET was amazing. Talked to an individual when we got there that gave us a quick overview of the property and the next day we met Leafy the gardener. She introduced us to dad goat Tokyo and one of his children Bob Dylan. There isn’t phone service and it’s wonderful, town is only a quick 5 minute drive to get service so you’re isolated but quick back to reality if you so desire. I left a couple of crystals behind and I loved sitting on the porch at night right under the moonlight. Thanks for the healing weekend!!

We have had multiple campers trespassing across the fence to the neighbors property. Today, we call it Fanthorn Forest and it's our dream, our haven and our home. We love sharing our farm with others and allowing them the same experience of peace and tranquility we get from the land.Learn more about this land:Located only 50 miles SE of Kansas City, MO! We have woods and pasture with Settle's Ford Wildlife area (fishing and hiking available) 1/4 mile away. Camping is primitive with only an outhouse and no shower facilities. There are MANY thorn trees, so hikers must have proper footwear. Fire ring, wood and a grate for cooking are provided. Livestock encounters are also available with owners in attendance. All proceeds are put back in the farm to care for the animals and the land. RV's are allowed, but we do not have any hook ups available and they are not allowed in the woods. Parking area is at the end of the driveway for both cars and RV's. We love kids and will provide lawn darts or any other games we have available if requested.
