How we ended up in Knife Lake Township on 81 acres of forested land. We began looking for land in late fall of 1996. After several months of searching, we happened upon a tiny newspaper ad for 81 acres of land described as "Beautiful, secluded, mature hardwoods, tall pines w/creek & beaver pond, many gd bldg sites & great hunting". We toured the property, covered in almost two feet of snow, on a snowmobile in January 1997 and fell in love with it. We have been stewards of this piece of land for 25 years and are still enamored of its beauty and diversity. We are lulled to sleep by the sounds of owls and bullfrogs and the distant yipping of coyotes. Spring through fall we are often awakened by the rattling, honking of sandhill cranes and a wide variety of bird songs. Besides deer and lots of small critters, we've seen bear, bobcat, rafters of turkeys, quail, grouse, pheasant, owls, hawks and eagles. The sky, on a clear night, is breathtaking. We have always visualized sharing the land with others, so come and immerse yourself in this bountiful space.

The Hamlet Lake homestead is our 10-acre family home with two unique and private hip-camp sites. We have both lakeshore (in front) and a hobby farm with cows, chickens and goats in our back lawn and woods. The Hamlet Lake Bunkhouse is located to the west of our home in its own secluded parcel next to the lake. The Camp on Hamlet Hill (closed for 2026) is to the north of our home, on a remote flat hill at the top of our property, on a hill over Cedar brook. with 300-acre, (private) Hamlet Lake in front, and the wide portion of the 20-mile Cedar brook in the back. We are a large "homesteading" family, with chickens, ducks, and a garden. The campsite is a private 1/2 acre clearing, surrounded by woods with a firepit, grill, cooking utensils, and an outhouse. (Tents are available for a small additional cost). There is an outdoor water pump below the hill, near which guests can view our fenced-in animals. Guests can also access the waterfront and beach in front, with the use of the swim raft, lily pad, fishing dock, canoe, kayak, and paddle boards included. At nearly 100 feet deep, Hamlet lake also boasts excellent fishing. Our home is located 6 miles from Crosby, with the world-class Cuyuna Lakes 50-mile mountain bike trail system. Crosby is a growing tourist town with many new and unique restaurants, outdoor adventures, and shopping opportunities. The paved bike trail begins 3.5 north of us. You can stay in the small camping cabin in comfort with your own bedding, or sleeping bag for the twin bed in the loft, or the futon on the main level. The cabin only has room for two adults unless you bring a camp pad to sleep on the floor, or squeeze in a child, but you have the comforts of an A/C , a Weber grill, mini fridge, microwave, and Electricity. Weekend Trip to The Camps at the Vineyards

The A frame was so fun to be in! I loved the concept of opening up the side and having the dogs relax and be able to go in and out when they wanted! The river right next to the site was peaceful, so many birds for bird watching and not too many mosquitoes when we went (although ticks loved our dogs). The owners let us try some of their wine and got to meet the other campers which was super fun and had a lot of laughs! Go meet Carl and his family, they are so wonderful. It’s right next to Rum River State Forest and not too far from Lake Mille Lacs. Great stay! Would come back :)

Kim and everyone at Alpha and Omega were such wonderful hosts! We camped during a pizza farm night which made the experience even more fun. We loved waking up and greeting all the animals (pigs, goats, donkeys, cows and alpacas). Kim’s delivery of fresh baked caramel rolls, coffee and orange juice was icing on the cake. Definitely recommend to families looking for a fun getaway close to the twin cities.

Weekend Trip to Bundo's Cabin

Jon’s property was absolutely beautiful. Fully equipped with potable water sink, AC, fridge with small freezer, electric stove, and exceptionally clean outhouse. The sleeping loft was cozy but warm, would recommend bringing a small fan in the summer months. We unfortunately had to cut our trip short due to the ticks, but that was no fault of the host and he was extremely accommodating. If you come to the cabin during tick season please be prepared. Overall this is a great Hipcamp and would definitely come back in the fall!

Weekend Trip to Rustic River Retreat

Husband, son, dogs, & I had a blast there. Found it very dog friendly! We lucked out with it being middle May and had the place to ourselves. The amenities were fantastic! It was so nice to glamp and have access to A/C and a fridge. We stayed in the cabin. Loved that there was bedding so we didn’t have to pack a bunch. Site was cool. Great location to parks. Food in towns nearby was good. Squirrel Cage was great for breakfast. Mosquitoes, ants, & ticks were bad unfortunately. The fire ring is shared among all sites. There is a fire ring at the river too. Kayaks were there which was cool. My dogs loved the path to the river. Great stay really enjoyed ourselves!

Weekend Trip to Crooked Creek Retreat

The Pine Hunters Cabin was the perfect weekend getaway. It has all the items you need for camping, and the comfort of sleeping inside. From the second you walk in the door you can exhale and relax. The dining area was perfect for dinner when the weather was too much. We loved the cards/books and games strategically placed the cabin. Our favorite detail we experienced was the viewfinder. We reminisced about being kids and enjoyed the throwback! The fireplace kept the cabin nice and warm when its 35 degrees outside. The landscape was INCREDIBLE. We saw wild turkeys, Sandhill Cranes, and the STARS with zero light pollution. The outhouse is clean and so easy to access. The fire pit was ideal for some Dutch oven pot roast, s’mores and singing! We can’t wait to come back!

2 nights at Relaxing River Cabin with Kayaks

Awesome cabin! Our stay was a little unseasonably chilly so we spent a lot of our time inside in front of the fireplace. A modern cabin with all the amenities was exactly what we needed. Easy access to fire pit and grill and very close to the river, which was nice. I wish there were more direct walking paths from the cabin to hike with our pups but we made due walking down the main road. Great place to stay, thank you for having us!!

This place is really special. I almost wondered if maybe I’d died and gone to heaven. What a treat to spend some time in this magical place with all the animals and beautiful views. On top of the farm animals, I saw so many deer and birds (sandhill cranes were often hanging out in the field). It’s such a beautiful and peaceful place, and Kim and Brad were great hosts - very welcoming and accommodating. Add the sauna and coffee/homemade caramel rolls - 100% worth the extra treat!

Weekend Trip to Bundo's Cabin

I loved staying at Bundos cabin. Our kids had a nice time exploring and enjoying the land around us. It was remote but easy to get to and close enough to others that it wasn’t nerve wracking as a new place can be. Getting in was easy and the right mixture of camping and cabin life. Would highly recommend!!

This is the 2nd time staying here and we love it. Nice, clean and well maintained. We love how secluded this area is, it is a nice blend of camping and staying in a cabin. The dogs love the room to roam and all the smells.

1 night at Alpha and Omega Pizza Farm

This was a great experience- we wanted to camp but it was too early in the year for full on tent camping. This was a great in between! Bed was comfy and we ended up feeling very warm with the blankets and the wood stove. There are lots of cute animals around, including Kurt the cat, who was one of the friendliest and sweetest cats I’ve ever met. He slept in the tent with us most of the night. We also sauna-ed and enjoyed a Norwegian smorgarboard for breakfast ( delivered straight to our picnic table). We were too early for pizza but hope to return later in the spring!

2 nights at Crooked Creek Retreat

A beautiful place! We had a great time there. The cabin is really nicely set up, no uncertainties while there. Naomi’s directions and details were perfect. Many nice settings to gather: the big kitchen table, main room, fire pit. We had a big fresh ol’ hike on the trails surrounding the property. Many sweet little books and Lincoln logs to amuse the youngins. Highly recommended. Thank you

Weekend Trip to The Wooded Retreat/breakfast/spa

Our tiny house in the woods was a lovely getaway from the city for a night! We spent the day hiking at one of the nearby parks and then curled up in our cozy little Ole Blue. Deborah was very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions we had.
