Jasper Moss is a glamping retreat experience located on the remote Bois Blanc Island, Michigan, where you can unplug, rest, retreat and rejuvenate while surrounded by untouched nature. The venue consists of three yurts, an outdoor shower, sink and toilet, and fully screened outdoor kitchen. It is located across the gravel road from Lake Huron, next to a public nature preserve and a 5-minute walk from one of just two restaurants on the island.
The blue and turquoise yurts each have a full-sized bed, a small table and two chairs. The red yurt has two twin beds. There is basic electric access for a bedside light, fan, and charging of electronics as needed. The outdoor kitchen is fully screened in, and offers basic amenities for communal use, such as a refrigerator, grill, gas burner and griddle, toaster oven, coffee maker, and basic utensils, dishes, pots, and pans. Revelers will live comfortably close to the Earth and immersed in the diversity of flora, fauna, and geology.
Onsite is a separate art studio where we paint, turn wood, and do lapidary art.

We do raise pheasants for release, so don't be shocked if you spook one up on the trail!
You can also hit the public trails next door on State Land and walk for miles and miles.
We are only 4.4 miles to and from I75, with easy access to Gaylord, Petoskey, Mackinac, and just down the road from downtown Wolverine and Indian River.

Site 1: The Beaver Dam site is more open with a good breeze and a fantastic view of the active large Beaver Pond. This spot is only accessible with a Subaru, Jeep, Truck, or four-wheel drive Sprinter van.
Site 2: The Woods site is just that, in the woods with lots of Pine and Aspen trees. Accessible with any vehicle.
The property is located right off U-23, 7 Miles from Mackinaw City. Bring your bikes and ride from camp to Mackinaw City (7-8 miles) on the Northeastern Bike Trail. The Barbara Hoffius Nature Preserve is only a half-mile away and has great trails to the beach.
These simple campsites are PACK IN PACK OUT. We don’t have any services. There is the Mackinaw Straits roadside park one mile west which has well water and a public bathroom. Table and chairs and a fire pit are provided. Feel free to scavenge for deadfall firewood. Please don’t cut any trees down for any reason. Also, check with the DNR for fire risk. Do not burn during high risk of fire.
The location can't be beaten, if you want to visit the Mackinaw Area but need space from the crowds. It will not disappoint.

If you are looking to connect with nature, we think you'll love Camp 437. Currently we are offering our property solely to you! As our only guests you will enjoy a very private, secluded experience at our 40 acre camp. Our property is undeveloped, so you will need to bring your own drinking water, but there's no need to worry about finding firewood before you arrive as we supply you with all you need.
Be sure to bring along your water shoes because our wooded trails will guide you right to the river's edge where you can enjoy the beauty and wildlife along the West Branch of the Sturgeon River, with no roads or houses in sight! This is also a great spot for stargazing and to watch the perseids meteor shower.
For your convenience, a short walk from your campsite is a spacious rain shelter that includes 2 picnic tables, extra chairs, solar lights, and lots of books and games for rainy days. There's also a swing, a hammock, and a charcoal grill available.
Please note, Camp 437 is completely off grid and offers a primitive camping experience; you will be in direct contact with nature and it might feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere, yet the convenience of the village of Vanderbilt is just three miles away. Please be aware that with rustic camping brings unique experiences, such as our 3 sided, open air pit toilets made from repurposed materials.
We are located just three miles off of I-75 and the larger city of Gaylord is only a 15 minute drive south. There's lots to do here in beautiful Northern Michigan... only a few miles from our camp you can go for a swim at Thumb Lake Park or take a bike ride along the North Central State Trail in Vanderbilt. Drive 15 minutes north and you can canoe or kayak the main branch of the Sturgeon River in Wolverine. There are many great hiking trails in the Pigeon River State Forest and the North Country National Scenic Trail is only 6 miles away.

A perfect spot for camping. The property is absolutely beautiful. It felt (and was) very private. The included firewood was a nice touch. The trails were clearly marked and the river that runs through the property was picturesque. So quiet and so peaceful. As we were leaving, i told my partner this place is what Hipcamp is for. I loved the tent camping on Dove and John's land. The views were amazing. The children loved all of the room to explore the trails, the nearby River and the amazing game room. The game room was great for rainy days. Perfectly remote and private. Wonderful for the dogs to be able to roam. I would 100% recommend staying here and hope I have the chance to again. The children were sad to leave on our last day and said that they really loved camp 437.

What an excellent campsite! We so enjoyed our two nights here. Nice level, grassy area with electrical hookup, picnic table, garbage can, fire pit, and firewood provided. Cathy texted us en route, giving extra directions, met us upon arrival mowing the site, and was friendly and helpful. There are other summer homes and cottages nearby on the lane, but we barely saw or heard any neighbors in our time here. Quiet, peaceful, surrounded by pine trees on 3 sides, birds chirping, and the waves lapping the rocky shore about 30 meters away through a wooded path directly on site. You can watch the sunrise over Lake Huron through the trees. We walked quite a ways down the beach looking for fossil rocks (there are tons). About a half mile south on the highway is Huron Dunes Roadside Park with a public marina, outhouses, picnic tables, and another long, walkable beach with a great sandy area for swimming. We had it to ourselves until around noon when a few other groups showed up. Our dog (pit terrier) was able to enjoy the site with us. We only heard a few other dogs bark far away down the beach. What a gem! Would definitely recommend this site!! Thank you Cathy!

We loved having complete privacy on this beautiful water front property. Quiet and peaceful all week long. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to be away from busy campgrounds.
This was a bit of a tight squeeze getting out with our 23 foot camper, but we made it work.

Great hunting/fishing cabin. Minimal amenities but better than a rustic campsite. We had a fan blowing with a battery blowing the hot air out which kept the cabin nice and cool. Very clean cabin. Comfortable beds and futon to sleep inside. There is also a table inside, some nice hooks for clothes around the walls came in handy. For the girls… there is not a mirror in the cabin but we think we rocked the “camping hair don’t care” look. We brought outdoor fly traps to help keep flies away so we had no problems with the flies. But the fly trap was full by the end of the weekend so just be cautious of biting bugs. Portajohn was clean and enough for us.. we brought a portable sink to wash our hands. Good idea to think about bringing something like that or hand sanitizer. There is also a trash-bin on site which was a nice surprise. Beach was just right up the road. Great location. Just wish there was a closer boat launch to the cabin but north and west side boat launch’s were not too far. Thank you Amy!

It was really nice camping on Linda’s land. She has lots of seating near the creek, and even has a couple of hammocks. It’s a nice location close to all that Alpena has to offer. Linda and her daughter were very nice, and I enjoyed seeing their three dogs. Linda was also very accommodating. She just wants your stay there to be the best it can be!
