Nestled along the shores of East Grand Traverse Bay, our Bayside Base Camp is the perfect spot to stay as you explore the wonders of Northern Michigan. We offer one tent site in the back of our property with access to our indoor toilet. Access to the bathroom requires two steps up to get into the house. Guests also have access to a fire pit, a large table to set up your camp stove or jet boil, as well as the ability to hang your own hammock among our trees.
We are steps away from bay access for swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding and whatever other water hobbies you may have! There is access to two beautiful trails within a short walking distance from your camp. We are happy to provide directions as long as you promise to take care of them and leave no trace. The Northern Michigan community is incredibly active and values the Leave No Trace principles.
In addition to the natural beauty within walking distance from your site, the area has countless trails, paths and parks to explore. We are happy to provide additional recommendations based on your interests through email or upon your arrival.
Bayside Base Camp is located 15 minutes from Downtown Traverse City, a short 45 minute drive from Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, 50 minutes from Leland and 15 minutes from Old Mission Peninsula.
Guests will be responsible for disposing of their trash items in the designated trash bin on site. There is one parking spot in our driveway and you will need to walk back to your tent site. There is a home within view of your site, but it is a seldomly used vacation home. The walk will take less than one minute to get back to your tent site from the driveway.

The area boasts salmon fishing, lake perch, walleye and the best Steele head trout fishery to be had. Deer hunting in the fall and winter as well as a large wild fowl population. Swan can be observed in pairs on the small lakes while other wild life can be seen on Lake Michigan only a few miles away. A public boat launch is just around the corner on shore drive. We boast bears, coyote sightings as well as other wild life on and off the property. Sleeping Bear Sand dunes are just up the coast. A large fresh water sand dune and national park this nods to the ancient history of Lake Michigan as as a once inland sea. Altas Michigan boasts pro quality golf courses right on the coast with beautiful weather in summer that is neither too hot or too cool. A Buffalo farm can be seen from outside Traverse City which sits on the Grand Traverse Bay. All bodies of water offer a clean fresh swimming experience with Caribbean blue waters clear to the bottom. The SOL Homestead is a small but growing homestead with a focus on community. We raise chickens, ducks, pigs and cattle on pasture.
The property is rolling acres with hardwood, pine, brush and open land with several miles of mowed trails. The terrain makes is very private and secluded, not a building or road (other than the driveway) is visible from the campsite. Wildlife abounds with regular sitings of deer, turkey, bald eagles, redtail hawks, grouse, pheasant, songbirds, and the list keeps going. The stars explode overhead when the sun drops behind the hills.
The farm is over the hill and through the woods, you might occasionally hear a rooster crow, but otherwise you won't even know we are there.
Located a short 20-25 minutes south of Traverse City, all the area attractions including Old Mission Peninsula, Leelanau Peninsula, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Manistee River, wineries, fishing, boating and countless other attractions. The Kingsley Farm Market on Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 7:00pm is a fun local event featuring great local farmers and often live music.
We are currently offering one basic/rustic campsite, on a large flat(ish) site with picnic table and fire ring. There will be a Porta John for a toilet (May-October) and no access to water or electric at this time. There is plenty of room for any type of camper or several tents. If there is enough interest, we plan to add several more campsites and perhaps a glamping site, water, electric, and an outdoor shower in the future.
Included with each stay is a rack of seasoned firewood and one dozen farm fresh eggs. Other farm products may be available upon request, you never know what might be ready in the garden!

Well, we camped here this summer and absolutely adored it! And… We vowed to return for fall camping! Well, one of us got to, I had to work. But once again, my husband had a wonderful time in one of the most beautiful settings we’ve ever been to. Being that secluded camping in Michigan is absolutely wonderful. My granddaughter went with us this summer and she cannot wait to go back next year. She was not happy grandpa went without her! A good center point for short drives for biking, kayaking, or just going to town! And the drive to get anywhere is very pretty. See you next summer!

This was my second ever Hipcamp stay and this campsite blew my first time out of the water. I am so amazed I was thinking about the review I would leave while I was still there. The view was breathtaking at all hours of the day and night. The complimentary eggs were beautiful and tasty. And I actually gasped at the port-a-potty because it looked as if I was the first one to ever use it *ever*. There were 3 mischievous cows watching my dog and I as we unpacked and kept us giggling all evening. It was *so* quiet all night and the sunrise in the morning was perfection. I could not have asked for more! I had a hard time finding it initially only bc I struggle to follow very simple and direct instructions. I hope to return eventually

Everything was perfect. From the fresh eggs to hardwood firewood. Site was level to setup our trailer. Was greeted by a wild turkey and a bunch of additional wildlife. The cows were perfect neighbors. Would 100% recommend. 10/10 and five starts every day.

This campsite is huge! And it is a spectacular view! I would sit there looking out over this amazing rolling Hill expanse, and just wait for the Buffalo to appear… If you grasp my imagination. That’s exactly what it looks like. And there are two track roads you can walks down if you’d like to stretch your legs in the morning and at night! The scenery is gorgeous. The Porta potty was clean and a decent distance from the campsite! The most level ground would be at the top end of the mowed grass area Where the fire pit is. You do face east and get the morning sun. The sun sets behind you over a small woods. So if the weather is hot and sunny… The space can get very warm. So if heat bothers you at all, think about what the weather might be! We cannot wait to go back especially to try this spot in the fall! We actually could not believe we found this spot. Took our grand daughter kayaking on a small lake. Took her to interlochen State Park for swimming and music at the arts camp! You truly feel all alone in the world. We did hear the chickens a little bit which we loved! We enjoyed the eggs. The host gave us. You can hear muted traffic sound from M113, but usually only early in the morning, depending on how fast the trucks drive. And depending on time of year and weather conditions, the stars are all there!
If you love solitary camping with no one else around anywhere, this is the place for you. We will definitely be coming back.

Great little campsite on the SOL Homestead… Perfect for stargazing, birdwatching, hiking, and a generally peaceful camping experience. No other campers, only the family onsite who you see walking thru now and then—very friendly and hospitable. No shade so plan accordingly, portapotty was so convenient and SO clean! You do hear equipment from neighboring farms and a lot of planes overhead, but the crickets and birdsong were the best soundtrack. Trails throughout the property were well maintained, complementary eggs were delicious, perfect for campfire breakfast for which wood was even provided. Got the chance to meet some very happy, well cared-for farm animals—loved waking up to see cow ears poking up over the long grass, the perfect company for a valley sunrise.

Wow. This place is really special. The camper you stay in is really cute, cozy and has a large porch overlooking the woods.
The property itself is beautiful with a creek and trails running through it.
Susan was a great host and even provided us fresh eggs and cucumbers!

I really enjoyed my stay at Susan's camper. She is a thoughtful host and provided us with the freshest cucumbers and eggs. The deck was the perfect spot to sit and watch the rain come in. My dog loved the property, and the air conditioning unit was a welcome relief during the heat of summer. This charming location offers just the right amount of privacy and is stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay.

We really enjoyed this campsite. It was perfect for our family! We wanted seclusion with a beautiful view and that is exactly what we got! The site had firewood already there, which was wonderful since we arrived late. It also had a port a potty that was very clean (my 7 year old didn't even complain about using it), plus a dozen fresh eggs! We will definitely return to this site!

Our stay was absolutely fantastic! The pre-set tents with mattresses, bedding, fans, and outlets made camping so easy and comfortable—everything was ready to go! The cooking station with the provided stove was incredibly practical, and the multiple shade tents were a lifesaver during the rainy day. The space felt private yet open, with stunning views of the stars and moon on our second night. The shower was a great touch for rinsing off after sandy beach days. This is our second time staying at Valley View SOL Homestead. This is the perfect one site only in a great location. Less than 30 minutes to Traverse City and an hour to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Beulah, Frankfort and so many hiking trails. So much to do and a quiet relaxing unwind. The cows were the highlight of our trip. They visited every day so curious to come running and say hello before going on their way. I think we are off beef for a while 🤣🤣🤣
