Overview:
Our beautiful 10 acre farm and homestead is situated between Ann Arbor and Dexter not far from the Huron River. The 5 acre area where our campsites are located is wooded with mature oak, maple, walnut, elm, and white pine trees. We're isolated and surrounded by wild areas and natural farm land but just a 10 minute drive to restaurants, groceries, fuel, and other amenities. The Ann Arbor area is home to a huge array of world class events from the Ark music venue to National Champions Michigan home football games and a whole lot more. Downtown Ann Arbor or Dexter or Chelsea is only a 15 minute car drive. White Lotus Farms, which has a wonderful farm market on Saturdays from 9 - 2 and Wednesdays from 9 - 1, is a 10 minute walk down our dirt road. If you forget to bring something that you need, don't hesitate to ask! We've got a growing number of camping essentials for rent or sale for very reasonable prices that can make your stay even more enjoyable: from bug repellants to camp chairs, potable water in 2.5 - 5 gallon containers, and more.

(one in the lower level of the common house, and one in a cabin 200 yards from the common house.) During your rental they will maintain quiet and privacy for your group, but will remain on the property for the duration of your stay and will be available should any issues arise.

***For the preservation of our property, our septic system, the privacy of other campers, all arrivals MUST be prior to dark setting in. If you can't see the signs & posts, you can damage our property AND your vehicle/equipment. All campers must arrive no later than 8:30 p.m. (This time limit will change throughout the season.)
*The property has a lot of wildlife; Deer, Turkey, Rabbits, Coyote, Birds, & Fox.
*A small creek runs across the back of the property.
*There are many lakes just minutes away, as well as the Huron river for fishing & kayaking.
*Public beaches at Lake Chemung & Bishop Lake.
*Campfires allowed. Plenty of dead wood around, or you can purchase firewood bundles onsite.
*Potable water is available to fill water tanks & containers. It is softened from the house.
*Sewer dump station is 5 miles away at Brighton Rec Area (there is a fee).
*Pets are allowed, max of 2 total (cats & dogs only). They must be leashed at all times (15 ft. max).
*Guests that are not part of the Hipcamp Reservation, are not allowed on-site. Guests will need to be met at a location other than our Hipcamp. There are numerous places nearby to gather instead. This assures maximum privacy for all sites and for our family.

Growing up, I used to come here to visit my great-aunt & uncle's horse ranch. My great uncle grew up visiting his great uncle who was one of the first in our family on this land. They were animal and nature lovers, and in their retirement, sold 130 acres to The Nature Conservancy, all of which is now protected as a county nature preserve.
Unfortunately, 11 years ago, my great-uncle and aunt had passed, and we had to sell the family land.
Serendipitously, as we were looking for a farm homestead to move to, we reconnected with the owners of the land, and they were just deciding to sell it. My family was able to buy back the family land and continue the legacy.

Kathryn and I are restarted our cut-flower farm and hoping to develop a permaculture inspired orchard and keep chickens and pigs. We love living here surrounded by extensive state and county parks and recreation land, while still being close enough to Chelsea and Ann Arbor for all that they provide.
Our aim is to create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable atmosphere for our visitors. We hope to provide a refuge in nature and perhaps even some education of flowers or wildlife.

Beautiful camping experience on our little slice of heaven. Lake Shawood is a beautiful, natural spring-fed, non-motorized lake that primarily borders the City of Novi's exquisite Lakeshore Park. Lakeshore Park has everything from playgrounds for very young children and older children, to picnic pavillions and a sandy beach, and miles of hiking, running, and biking trails.
We fell in love with this property the second we walked behind the old cottage.
I love nature and being outdoors, especially hiking and biking. We are still making improvements on the land with a small garden, which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay. Our big-picture vision is to renovate the old cottage and live in it.
This property is about 1/3 of an acre and has 1 large old oak tree and garden beds with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. (You can help yourself to any of the fruits or vegetables that are ripe)
We are on an old smaller home/cottage-style small residential street. Please keep in mind, that this is a spot for family and friend fun with the awareness of keeping it a sanctuary space for the neighbors as well.
Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site
Pitch your tent and bring your family and children to our exquisitely beautiful site. The property sits on Shawood Lake, a non-motorized private waterfront site. There’s plenty of room to park your car, pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and the beauty of all types of birds (swans, geese, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle), and animal life. The sunsets in this area are breathtaking.
Take a short 30-second walk and enjoy Pavilion Shore Park, a family-oriented park with a playground, swimming, fishing pier, and waterfront seating of Walled Lake. You’ll also find public restrooms which are open until 10 pm through the summer and a restaurant across the street.
We also have a portable camping toilet with a nice pop-up tent for privacy.
Lakeshore Park is a 5-minute walk, an 11-acre park with volleyball, swimming, bike, and hiking trails (more than 10 miles of mountain biking and multi-purpose trails), horseshoe pits, BBQs, picnic shelters, and play structures.

EarthWell Retreat Center boasts a spring-fed swimming pond situated on forty acres of rolling prairie, forest and wetland, surrounded by one hundred acres of Washtenaw County Nature Preserve. Six off-grid sleeping cabins dot the landscape, all within a short walk to our Common House, that includes a large gathering space, community kitchen/dining and bathrooms/shower. East of Chelsea is the expansive Pinckney and Waterloo State Recreation areas, with over 20 lakes and trails for hikers, bikers, backpackers, and horseback riders.
There are two households (the families of Ari Wakeman and Emily Adama) that live permanently on the property. (one in the lower level of the common house, and one in a cabin 200 yards from the common house.) During your rental they will maintain quiet and privacy for your group, but will remain on the property for the duration of your stay and will be available should any issues arise.

***For the preservation of our property, our septic system, the privacy of other campers, all arrivals MUST be prior to dark setting in. If you can't see the signs & posts, you can damage our property AND your vehicle/equipment. All campers must arrive no later than 8:30 p.m. (This time limit will change throughout the season.)
*The property has a lot of wildlife; Deer, Turkey, Rabbits, Coyote, Birds, & Fox.
*A small creek runs across the back of the property.
*There are many lakes just minutes away, as well as the Huron river for fishing & kayaking.
*Public beaches at Lake Chemung & Bishop Lake.
*Campfires allowed. Plenty of dead wood around, or you can purchase firewood bundles onsite.
*Potable water is available to fill water tanks & containers. It is softened from the house.
*Sewer dump station is 5 miles away at Brighton Rec Area (there is a fee).
*Pets are allowed, max of 2 total (cats & dogs only). They must be leashed at all times (15 ft. max).
*Guests that are not part of the Hipcamp Reservation, are not allowed on-site. Guests will need to be met at a location other than our Hipcamp. There are numerous places nearby to gather instead. This assures maximum privacy for all sites and for our family.

Growing up, I used to come here to visit my great-aunt & uncle's horse ranch. My great uncle grew up visiting his great uncle who was one of the first in our family on this land. They were animal and nature lovers, and in their retirement, sold 130 acres to The Nature Conservancy, all of which is now protected as a county nature preserve.
Unfortunately, 11 years ago, my great-uncle and aunt had passed, and we had to sell the family land.
Serendipitously, as we were looking for a farm homestead to move to, we reconnected with the owners of the land, and they were just deciding to sell it. My family was able to buy back the family land and continue the legacy.

Kathryn and I are restarted our cut-flower farm and hoping to develop a permaculture inspired orchard and keep chickens and pigs. We love living here surrounded by extensive state and county parks and recreation land, while still being close enough to Chelsea and Ann Arbor for all that they provide.
Our aim is to create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable atmosphere for our visitors. We hope to provide a refuge in nature and perhaps even some education of flowers or wildlife.

Beautiful camping experience on our little slice of heaven. Lake Shawood is a beautiful, natural spring-fed, non-motorized lake that primarily borders the City of Novi's exquisite Lakeshore Park. Lakeshore Park has everything from playgrounds for very young children and older children, to picnic pavillions and a sandy beach, and miles of hiking, running, and biking trails.
We fell in love with this property the second we walked behind the old cottage.
I love nature and being outdoors, especially hiking and biking. We are still making improvements on the land with a small garden, which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay. Our big-picture vision is to renovate the old cottage and live in it.
This property is about 1/3 of an acre and has 1 large old oak tree and garden beds with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. (You can help yourself to any of the fruits or vegetables that are ripe)
We are on an old smaller home/cottage-style small residential street. Please keep in mind, that this is a spot for family and friend fun with the awareness of keeping it a sanctuary space for the neighbors as well.
Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site
Pitch your tent and bring your family and children to our exquisitely beautiful site. The property sits on Shawood Lake, a non-motorized private waterfront site. There’s plenty of room to park your car, pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and the beauty of all types of birds (swans, geese, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle), and animal life. The sunsets in this area are breathtaking.
Take a short 30-second walk and enjoy Pavilion Shore Park, a family-oriented park with a playground, swimming, fishing pier, and waterfront seating of Walled Lake. You’ll also find public restrooms which are open until 10 pm through the summer and a restaurant across the street.
We also have a portable camping toilet with a nice pop-up tent for privacy.
Lakeshore Park is a 5-minute walk, an 11-acre park with volleyball, swimming, bike, and hiking trails (more than 10 miles of mountain biking and multi-purpose trails), horseshoe pits, BBQs, picnic shelters, and play structures.

Such a cool spot! Amazing space with tons of amenities. The yurt had a lot more to offer than the pictures suggest. A loft with two small beds perfect for kids, running water, wood burning stove although you don’t really need it all the time because of the mini split. Fun to be had around the property as well with visiting the yaks, the small pond and the treehouse.

Very friendly, had camping area alone for most of the time I was there. Large area to camp either in the tree line or in a nice open area. Would recommend. There are some low areas and water pools there so if you are camping in rainy season make sure to be uphill. Overall enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night.

Dori’s land was wonderful. I was looking for a quick getaway for a recharge & it gave everything I needed. The property has a surround sound of nature. I heard everything from toads, birds & even a pack of coyotes. Of course I met the dogs & I was super impressed with how well Zeus guarded the animals & kids. Ms. Dori wasn’t there but I got to meet her daughter and her family. I actually had close to an hr conversation with the daughter talking about a little of everything. I got to visit with the animals including the baby chicks & even played a little jump rope with the kids! I’ll definitely be returning for future stays. It’s far enough away from the city but close enough to not dread the drive. I would’ve extended for more days had it not been for the impending storms. I’m excited to participle in the breath work on my future visit. This was an absolute gem to stumble upon.

We went during the spring time after a good rain and snow melt, we still had a great time but be prepared with the right shoes/boots if it’s going to be wet weather. Also be sure your vehicle is capable in off-roading conditions when weather is wet. We found a great corner spot that you could tell they’re was already the fire rings placed prior, make sure to grab your ring on the way in and take it on your way out!

The host, Mike, was very kind. I went winter camping, and it was risky to drive my car to the site, so he generously helped transport my camping gear with his mini truck. The forest was peaceful and quiet, and you can even see deer. I will definitely be back! It’s a safe place as well.

We had a great time in early November car camping at our site. Woke up in the morning to see a herd of bison graising basically right outside our car. Was easy to find and get too, even had a solar light marking the spot. The grass road could be a bit hard to get over if too muddy or snowy but we made it fine even with slightly bald tires. Not a ton of commotion out there either so it was nice and peaceful. Would recommend!

First, I’ll say make sure your vehicle can handle a little bit of backroad driving, but once you get there, the campsite is lovely.
Secluded, relaxing, with easy access to a facility and a great firepit. The owner was incredibly kind and helpful as he got us set up at our site. Not much I can say besides it was a lovely time all around! Thank you for lending us your land for a night!
