Bakers Island Light Station is located on Bakers Island in Salem Sound, a 60-acre island with a large summer colony. The lighthouse stands at 59 ft tall and continues to guide ships in and out of Salem Harbor with an alternating 20-second white-red light.
The 10-acre light station, which includes historic structures such as two keepers’ houses, an oil house, and a lantern room (now operating as a gift shop), is located in the northwest quadrant of the island and was formally owned and operated by the US Coast Guard. The rest of the island is in private ownership including the Bakers Island Wharf. The deed to historic Bakers Island Light Station was transferred on August 27, 2014, from the U.S. government to the Essex National Heritage Commission (Essex Heritage).

You have three options: 1) Use your own kayaks and paddle out to our beach (this is recommended for advanced kayakers only). 2) Take our landing craft, Naumkeag out to the island for $70 per person. (Boat departs from Blaney Street dock on Friday at noon and picks you up from the Island on Sunday at noon). FREE overnight parking is available there. 3) Take your own boat, and rent a mooring for $50 a night (you will need your own dinghy to get ashore). ALL CAMPERS MUST ARRANGE TRANSPORTATION AFTER BOOKING. DETAILS WILL BE SENT FOLLOWING CONFIRMATION OF BOOKING.
IMPORTANT: The $60 per night fee covers 4 people per site. The absolute capacity for each site is 4 people, and you must provide us the name of EACH guest prior to arrival.
Essex Heritage is the non-profit organization that operates and maintains the 10-acre light station at Bakers Island, with the mission of public access and preservation.

The Lodge and cabins we have at Sand Pond are situated about one hundred yards from beautiful sand pond (actually a lake). Sand Pond is a spring fed lake near the base of Silver Mountain which is a beautiful and close by hike to 360 views of the surrounding region/mountains. You will have easy and direct access to the sandy beach and swimming. The water is crystal clear and the water around the beach is very shallow which is great for children. The beach has a fire pit available as does the lodge. We have kayaks, a canoe and paddleboards available on the beach for guests to use.
All cabins and the lodge have a single bathroom and shower, porches, kitchens and living rooms.

We are excited to offer this amazing tipi camping experience on our working horse property. The tipi design is the basic Sioux design; the makers of our tipi were chosen to provide all the tipis for the movie Dances with Wolves because of their respect for authenticity and excellent craftsmanship.
The tipi is 18' W x 15' H. Inside, it is roughly 16' in diameter and 13'2" high. It has a 6' entrance with a zippered door and mosquito mesh. There is mosquito netting around the top smoke flaps and a critter guard mesh that covers the bottom circumference where the tipi and floor meet. To keep things warm on those chilly nights or take the edge off the crisp morning air, there is a small wood pellet stove inside.
There is a queen-size futon and plenty of space to sleep on the floor with your own sleeping bags or cots. The maximum occupancy is 6 people. The campsite setup is a mixture of Indigenous and Cowboy Western culture. It features a dining area close to the tipi with a picnic table.
You can relax at the fire pit area beside the Kampfire Cauldron (handmade on-site!) and enjoy cookouts, campfires, and great conversations with friends and family while listening to the calm waters of Giles Brook a few feet away.
Firewood is included in your stay. An outhouse is also located nearby, so you don’t have to entirely "rough it." Potable water can be provided if you do not bring your own.
Local activities include: hiking trails, parks, lakes, horseback rides, kayaking, fishing, motorsports, relaxing by the creek on-site, axe throwing, range, skiing/tubing, and so much more!

We loved camping at the site. The amenities were excellent, and the hot tub was super clean. Overall, the experience was 5 stars.
This is in no way to denigrate or take away from the positive review. This is only a suggestion moving forward. When we arrived, we were informed that we were unable to use the fire pit because there was a statewide ban due to a drought in New Hampshire. This is no way the problem of the owner of the site. It is out of their control. However, it would have been nice to know upon booking as doing a campfire is an integral part of the camping experience. The site still receives 5 stars :)

We love this camp site! It literally has everything you would need! Morning coffee on the deck in the Adirondack chairs is the most peaceful and best way to start the day. We love taking the boats out on the lake and taking a dip in the hot tub. This was our third time going to this site and we are looking forward to coming back in the future!

This is a great camping spot. The nearby waterfall provides a constant blanket of sound that insulates you from the outside world so it feels very isolated without being "in the middle of nowhere". It is well equipped with everything you could need (except food & clothes) and the host provides lots of info about local things to do.

We rented a Jayco camper that made our stay easy and more comfortable. It was right on the river- we enjoyed waking up and watching the ducks go by. We spent a ton of time outside, grilling, having fires and spending time/ laughing with friends. Lots of things locally to do as well. We went apple picking and to the local fair! We got some time kayaking in the river too which was peaceful. It was a nice, quiet getaway, and the owners are lovely people. Be prepared with all your own camping gear. Though the camper was very comfortable, we were lucky we had everything we needed. You will need all your own kitchen gear: a grill, pots/pans, plates, mixing bowls, etc. We would def come back, especially since it's only 1.15hr from home. Thanks for a nice stay.

Certainly better accommodations than expected. The tent site was private and had all the essentials you could need. Just bring your fishing rod, a meal, and your favorite drink. Our children loved “living” on the tent site for the weekend. They are already asking the next time we can go. Thank you for a perfect weekend to bid farewell to summer.

This spot was so cute! The teeny house where I stayed with my dogs was great and had updates from what is seen in the listing. I was surprised that there were like no bugs, didn’t have to spray the site at all. They aren’t kidding about it being “teeny” though- you can’t open the door all the way to get in haha but it was great otherwise!

This was a unique and fun experience! I think the Horse Trailer is the Best Option! Just enough space for 2 people and 2 dogs. Waking up you have a front view of the picture perfect water view. Bond fire available and grill. Two swinging tree chairs were very comfy and a great place to sit down with a morning coffee and see the natural beauty around you. We loved the teeny tiny house, it was so cute. It was great to wake up and have coffee right on the water especially being able to paddle around on our personal rowboat. It had everything we needed. The bed is a little firm so bring extra blankets if that's not your thing, but we were comfortable. The amenities were affordably priced and everyone there was so friendly.

My family and I loved the quiet and peaceful place, sleeping with the sound of the water, getting up, lighting the bonfire, and above all, our two dogs accompanied us and enjoyed themselves. It was two unforgettable days.
Samantha was very kind and showed us everything we had access to. I hope it's a place to return to soon.

Absolutely fantastic location and everyone involved made the stay a delight.
We opted to take the boat to the island -- which thrilled my 8-year-old to no end. Then, once we arrived, the lighthouse keeper couldn't have been friendlier or made things easier during our stay at this unforgettable location with everything from amazing views to multiple lighthouse tours.
Great from start to finish and we can't wait to go back.

We had an excellent trip and I would highly recommend it! We paddled out in our kayaks and were greeted on the beach once we arrived and shown where to store our kayaks. The light housekeeper was super helpful and showed us around and answered all of our questions. It was incredible to see the lighthouse, and the views from the spot are amazing. The beach was pretty rocky, but it was perfect for a quick dip. Also, they are not joking when they say there is little to no shade on the island, so don't forget a good sun hat and lots of sunscreen.

Judy's cottage on Sip Pond was the perfect weekend stay for us and our water-loving dog. We brought most of our camping supplies but were pleasantly surprised when the cottage had basically everything we needed (cooking utensils, plates, towels, etc.). It was so nice to have drinking water, clean and comfy bed, and clean porta-potty. Waking up to gorgeous pond views was such a treat.
Sip Pond is wonderful - we spent all day on the water, kayaking and fishing. The neighbors that we bumped into were extremely kind and welcoming. We wished we stayed longer! We hope to come stay at the cottage and enjoy the pond again at some point.

We had a great weekend camping on Bakers Island. Just the boat ride there was great fun, particularly navigating the landing craft ramp to get to the rocky beach. Dave the caretaker was there to greet us and help load our equipment up the steep slope to the campsites. He was also always available to answer any questions. Beautiful views around the island. We also lucked out with two night's running of seeing the moon rise over the Atlantic.

We stayed two nights. The keeper David was very accommodating and gave us a tour up the lighthouse! We lucked out that it was a full moon and got to see the sunset and moonrise on the island. Great little trails and beach areas to explore. We spent most of our time relaxing, watching boats go by. The ride to and from the island in the landing boat was quite an experience. Our kids loved it!
