The Indian Rail Trail, Charles County's most exciting recreational trail, is just a 7-minute drive from your tent. This paved, 13-mile-long, ten-foot-wide path is an excellent excursion for bikers of all ages, connecting the small town of Indian Head on the Potomac River to White Plains. The fairly level trail takes riders through mature forests, natural wetlands, and some farmland. During your stay, you can also take a 10-minute walk through the forest on our property to visit a serene creek. Your Signature campsite accommodates up to 6-10 campers. The basic booking includes space for 4 campers, with 2 sleeping on the Queen Bed in the platform safari tent and 2 sleeping in bags on the floor. The site also features a picnic table, fire pit, and Adirondack chairs where you can relax and stargaze at night. Atlantic Kayak Company is a 20-minute drive from the site, offering kayak rentals and guided expeditions. For families, Sky Zone Trampoline Park is a fun activity less than a 10-minute drive from the campsite. A Walmart is conveniently located about 10 minutes away for any supplies you may need, and local produce can be obtained on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the La Plata Farmer's Market (12 min drive) between April and November. The Road To Serenity: Our road is a quaint old country farm road made of grass and a few gravel patches here and there. It is a bit of a bumpy ride, so take it slow and easy as you make your way to our hidden getaway. There is one sharp left turn over a culvert and some dips and mild inclines, so low-sitting vehicles should definitely take it slow. The road narrows as you get closer to the site, but there are reflectors along the way to keep you on the right path. We highly recommend arriving before dark. Parking: Parking is on the grass meadow between the entrance to the meadow and the walking path to the campsite. Reflectors are in place to outline the parking area. Avoid driving beyond the parking area and down steep inclines in the meadow, as softer ground presents a risk for getting stuck. A gorilla wagon is available in the parking area to help transport your belongings to the campsite. Toilet and Shower Set-up: There is a privacy tent that contains a toilet seat over a bucket. Place a bag with absorbent materials in the bucket for your biological needs. A portable automatic shower providing hot water is also available. Pets: For the safety of your pets, ensure that they are treated for ticks prior to camping. Be sure to check for ticks before bringing pets into the tent. Noises and Sounds: This property is located in a rural community, and campers may occasionally experience common city noises such as airplanes flying overhead, distant traffic, or distant firearm shots. It is a great site for city dwellers who enjoy tranquility but not complete silence.

The Indian Rail Trail, Charles County's most exciting recreational trail, is just a 7-minute drive from your tent. This paved, 13-mile-long, ten-foot-wide path is an excellent excursion for bikers of all ages, connecting the small town of Indian Head on the Potomac River to White Plains. The fairly level trail takes riders through mature forests, natural wetlands, and some farmland. During your stay, you can also take a 10-minute walk through the forest on our property to visit a serene creek. Your Signature campsite accommodates up to 6-10 campers. The basic booking includes space for 4 campers, with 2 sleeping on the Queen Bed in the platform safari tent and 2 sleeping in bags on the floor. The site also features a picnic table, fire pit, and Adirondack chairs where you can relax and stargaze at night. Atlantic Kayak Company is a 20-minute drive from the site, offering kayak rentals and guided expeditions. For families, Sky Zone Trampoline Park is a fun activity less than a 10-minute drive from the campsite. A Walmart is conveniently located about 10 minutes away for any supplies you may need, and local produce can be obtained on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the La Plata Farmer's Market (12 min drive) between April and November. The Road To Serenity: Our road is a quaint old country farm road made of grass and a few gravel patches here and there. It is a bit of a bumpy ride, so take it slow and easy as you make your way to our hidden getaway. There is one sharp left turn over a culvert and some dips and mild inclines, so low-sitting vehicles should definitely take it slow. The road narrows as you get closer to the site, but there are reflectors along the way to keep you on the right path. We highly recommend arriving before dark. Parking: Parking is on the grass meadow between the entrance to the meadow and the walking path to the campsite. Reflectors are in place to outline the parking area. Avoid driving beyond the parking area and down steep inclines in the meadow, as softer ground presents a risk for getting stuck. A gorilla wagon is available in the parking area to help transport your belongings to the campsite. Toilet and Shower Set-up: There is a privacy tent that contains a toilet seat over a bucket. Place a bag with absorbent materials in the bucket for your biological needs. A portable automatic shower providing hot water is also available. Pets: For the safety of your pets, ensure that they are treated for ticks prior to camping. Be sure to check for ticks before bringing pets into the tent. Weekend Trip to Blackwater "She Shed"
I very much enjoyed my stay at the wonderful little She Shed! The tiny house was very clean and tidy, I felt comfortable immediately. It was well appointed with cool A/C, bathroom amenities, coffee, Keurig, fridge, freezer, microwave, Roku TV, toaster oven and comfortable beds. I luxuriated in lazy morning coffees under the crepe maple tree with my neighbor the goofy goat, and it was so calming to hear the sheep talk amongst themselves. Baaah! Not to mention the stars at night were spectacular. The She Shed is situated at the edge of a property management company, and while there are some large vehicles around the larger part of the property, I appreciated that the owners have made the tiny house space welcoming and private, I highly recommend if you’re looking for a quiet getaway from it all. I would definitely stay here again but next time I’ll bring my bicycle!

The cabin was so comfortable and exactly what I needed. I spent probably half of my weekend enjoying the bug-free front porch, listening to music (and playing!), and just having a totally empty brain. The people, though - they really made the stay! I was welcomed into conversations as though I'd been part of the community for years. There was room to explore! The pool was a welcome surprise - I only say that because I'm not much of a pool guy. This was where folks gathered to talk, read, snack... whatever! What a wonderful community!

This little house was wonderful! It had everything I needed for my overnight stay and more! What a great way to spend time in the area visiting the many interesting sites and biking around. Lisa had everything set up perfectly and was available to answer any questions I had (like what is your goat’s name? And can I just help myself to these kayaks?). So conveniently located, quiet, and well adorned. This cute house exceeded my expectations!

Weekend Trip to Maple Grove Farm
We stayed in the tent on top of the Land Rover. It was parked along the tree line on the edge of a pasture. About 50 sheep with lambs, an alpaca, a gentle, friendly pony and a horse were in the field next to us. If you’re a dog lover, you’ll really appreciate his farm dogs, who were happy to hang with us and keep us company. The tent was quite comfortable, though it took some concentration to safely maneuver getting up and down the ladder. The port a pot was the freshest smelling, cleanest one I’d ever encountered, and the other tent sites were in the same field, but not at all close to our site. The town of Bel Air is very close by with numerous restaurants. I would recommend the Sunny Day Cafe or one of the others on main st in the old town center. Bel Air also has just about any retail store you can think of. If you want to stay away from all of that, there are several nice parks within 20-30 minutes of the farm. Harford Glen is an environmental center that has a boardwalk through some wetlands, hiking trails through the woods and along side a creek, and a pond. Check online to find out when it’s open to the public. Rocks State Park also has hiking trails, with Dear Creek running through it. Visit the King and Queen Seat while you’re there. Also nearby, is a popular rail trail if you have bikes with you. Our stay at Edwin’s farm was very pleasant and carefree, which is just what we were looking for. Thanks Edwin!
