Frakers Grove Farm has been part of my family since the 1980s, but its history extends back to 1828 when Michael Fraker arrived and negotiated a peaceful settlement with the local Native American tribes, becoming the first settler in North Eastern Knox County. His grave, along with those of approximately 26 relatives and friends, is located on the property.
Camp on a 250-acre farm in Western Illinois, featuring a 1.5-acre pond stocked with Blue Gill, Crappie, Wide Mouth Bass, Catfish, and resident Grass Carp, plus a small creek. The property also has trails and abundant wildlife, including deer, American river otters, beavers, geese, wood ducks, and raccoons. A Jon boat is available for use on the pond.
We offer 1 Walk-in Camp Site and 1 Drive-In Site by the pond, each with a fire ring. RV camping is currently in a trial phase; your feedback is invaluable. This area provides primitive wooded camping behind and around the pond, with the RV site located next to the pole barn. Note: The RV site listing is not normally active, so please reach out in advance if interested. Guest WiFi is available near the buildings.
Assistance with transporting tents and supplies to and from the campsite on check-in and check-out days is available upon request.
Facilities include a Porta Potty and potable water from a yard hydrant, both located near the Pole Barn.
NOTE: This is an active farm with considerable activity involving heavy machinery during the spring and fall. We currently have chickens and are taking a break from pigs. The newly established pasture is expected to yield grass hay this year to help fund new fencing, a preparatory step for introducing cows.

On January 5, 1680, a significant chapter in history unfolded when French explorers René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, and Henri de Tonti established Fort Creve Coeur. Camp Hauberg is a unique campground that offers a blend of rich history and modern amenities, nestled on a picturesque 40-acre wooded parcel along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River, just 2 miles north of Port Byron, Illinois. Originally a YMCA summer camp from the 1930s to the late 1960s, this hidden gem has transformed into a serene retreat for both primitive campers and RV enthusiasts alike.
Our campground features spacious, shaded campsites equipped with 30 amp electric service and water hookups, ensuring a comfortable stay. Guests can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including river fishing and boating, as well as access to scenic bicycle trails. For recreation, we offer horseshoes, a basketball court, playground equipment, and a clean, modern shower house.
In addition to our camping facilities, Camp Hauberg is home to two historic lodges. The Little Lodge accommodates 4-8 guests and includes a small kitchen adjacent to a great room with a large fireplace and stunning river views. It also features its own restroom and shower facilities for added convenience.
The Big Lodge, a rustic banquet facility from the campground's past, is perfect for larger gatherings such as weddings, class reunions, or family get-togethers. It boasts a grand historic fireplace

We loved Whispering Pines! It was peaceful & quiet. There were showers & bathrooms on site. It had a walking trial, playground, basketball hoop, chapel & event space. There are also rooms & cabins for rent. They had a fire pit, water & electric. It was private since we were there in the winter. In the summer, I would think it could have more people. I would recommend Whispering Pines & would stay here again!

I was a quick stay but found the campground to be clean, quiet, with updated well lit and pristinely kept bathrooms/showers. It was easy to find and a late check in wasn’t a problem. Communication was rock solid from the team, who provided easy to follow directions with a map to the site. I also grabbed a voodoo burger from Raelyn’s pub nearby—awesome food and staff!

This was our second time staying at Whispering Pines Campground, and we just had to come back for their Fall Fest! My little boys (ages 4 and 2) had an absolute blast — from the mini pumpkin patch and petting zoo to the pony petting, playground, and carnival games. There was so much to do, and the amazing food trucks meant we never had to leave the campground for meals! The staff were so friendly and helpful, and both the cabin and bathhouse were spotless and well-maintained. We can’t wait to come back again next year! Spring break can't come soon enough!

We are typically super primitive camping types but my daughter said “hey mom can we have 4 walls, AC, and electricity but still have adventure?”. Well of course I said and this was the perfect mix. AC, microwave and mini fridge with actual beds was a great treat! We cooked on the grill and had a fire in the fire pit every night. Close to the Hennepin Canal for a hike or Geneseo for a cute town. Loved the close bathrooms and shower yet felt like you were away.
Suggestions: bring a wagon if you have a lot to bring to your site or cabin as you cannot pull up to your spot. Bring your own bedding. Do not bring firewood as it can endanger the local trees but firewood there is very very well priced!

Me and my wife really enjoyed the time we spent at this farm! Beautiful, nice and a serene getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Dennis was an awesome guy and responsive to all of our question's we had. We stayed for 3 nights and look forward to coming back in the spring. Dennis explained what he wanted to do with the pond (adding a dock and dredging) to make it an even better experience. We did not take his hospitality for granted. It is an awesome thing that a farmer would lend out a piece of his land right on a private pond for you to enjoy. Truly remarkable thing and one we will never forget. Thank you Dennis for being yourself and inviting us in! For those that stay here just remember to leave it just the way you came. I know that’s a given but some people just don’t think about that stuff so just a friendly reminder. This place is gorgeous!

We had such a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary here with our toddler. You can tell how much love is put into this land and we enjoy it so much here! We had a very rainy night and the cabin stayed cozy and dry. The land is quiet and was perfect for letting our little one run around. We will definitely be back 😘

We stopped here for one night on a road trip. The campground was very nice. It was tidy and easy to navigate right to our site with all the early communication. Looking around before we left, the extra amenities like game room, boats, and bikes looked nice. Firewood and propane onsite is a plus. Bathroom and shower were clean and convenient.

We stayed for one night while traveling from Colorado to Michigan. The cozy cabin and location provided us with a quiet restful sleep. The campground was a perfect location with several nearby restaurants and the canal trail system right there for a nice walk.
