We offer basic campsites with picnic tables, drinking water, a fire pit, a composting toilet, and a pop-up tent in case it rains. You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night. Me and my sister decided to camp around the Big Island for a week instead of a hotel. We were very excited to arrive at Mae’s campsite and she was an amazing host. Her place was very easy to find with her instructions and she greeted us upon arrival. She showed us around the place and provided a book of recommendations for local places. She also offered us fruit off of her farm and there were a few fun games there. The campsite is beautiful and she had a very nice dog that was fun to hang out with. Overall 10/10.

The pros: affordable, beautiful area, nice glamping cabanas, well set up for cooking (big bbqs!), coolers and towels to take to the beach, picking fresh lillikoi in the morning, overall a really lovely stay. The cons: the shared space vibe was a little strange because they were overstaffed with volunteers, so it felt a bit like a youth hostel. It made it feel like guests were intruding on the volunteer hostel vibe and often the kitchen was occupied.

So the “secret treehouse” is quite a treat. It’s SUPER secluded with nothing but the sound of rainforest creatures to keep you company. You can’t see lights from anything but the night sky when it gets dark. It’s got four porches, all covered, as well as a GIANT outdoor covered gathering area under the house itself. The sleeping loft is comfortable even for adults as long as you’re okay climbing a ladder, but the main floor also has a queen bed for those who don’t want to climb. Kitchen is well appointed and useful, though be prepared for no dishwasher (it’s a treehouse!). Half bath on the main floor, but the full bath is on the “ground” level, so you’re doing steps down to shower. This place is simply incredible. So cozy, but has pretty much everything you need including fast internet. Well, no dishwasher and no laundry (but the closest pay laundry is between there and the entrance of Volcanoes National Park, which is pretty close). There’s a bit of a haul through the woods to get your stuff to the treehouse, but it’s WORTH IT! Definitely hoping to get back and stay in this place again.

The sites are thoughtfully equipped with hot showers, flush toilets, a sink, a sun/rain dome, a propane stove, and a campfire—everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We had planned to explore so much of the Big Island, but the campsite was so peaceful and nourishing that I often just wanted to stay there all day and do nothing. Mae is a wonderful host and such an interesting person to chat with. She welcomed us for morning tea and coffee and even shared delicious fruits from her farm. I would absolutely stay here again on my next visit to the Big Island. Highly recommended.

This camp was super fantastic. Our Host Mae was very caring for us (Malama ) and came to welcome us warmly when we arrive. The site was extraordinary with more than 2 acres just for us with a little lake , a place to play volleyball , a place to play balloon on a pole , and even a disc golf course that we could use with the disks furnished by the host!!! ..the restroom where the cleanest that I ever seen with , not one , but two showers and two restrooms And the showers were present with hot water. Everything was so clean. I could not believe it !! And the land: I thought for a moment that I was camping on a par 3 of Pebble Beach California !!! in supplement we had the right to pick up fruits from trees: Lemons, limes, oranges, finger, lemons, tangerines, and others !! We even had a very nice dog name Knob! That came and welcome us, and was really great with us!! In all, this was the best IPC experience that we ever had up to now! Thanks Mae! Jeff and Suzan

Mae was such a kind and generous host! Bathroom and shower were well kept, water temp was warm initially, but Mae was super attentive to my needs and was nice enough to make the water hotter for me! The property was stunning and easy to find. The site was equipped with a pop up tent with a table to help provide shelter from the rain should you have to pack in or out when it's raining. The bathroom had a really cool map of the island with points of interest in addition to info about where the nearest pharmacy, gas station and other useful info was. Mae's house and property in general were such a peaceful place to decompress and enjoy the beauty of the big island when I wasn't out exploring. Great peaceful site to come back to and would definitely stay again!

Her place was clean, quiet, and the facilities (toilet & shower) were very nice with evening ambient lights for late night use. We had some even rain showers, but the little pavilion/tent kept us dry as we cooked our evening dinner. I highly recommend staying at Mae's farm!

Camp under a starry sky with an unobstructed view of Mount Kilauea across a vast and bare moon-like landscape. Fire pit with a grill for cooking, benches, and a beautiful new composting toilet structure made from local albizia, ohia, and guava wood. Mostly hot and sunny, with occasional rain. Access to Volcanoes National Park and Kehena Beach. Learn more about this land: Lava covered the site on 5 September 1990, after more than a thousand years of peaceful fertility. The flow met the Hakuma horst and was diverted north, filling the village of Kalapana and the beautiful Kaimu Bay. Lava continued to flow in the area for another 20 years, until 2011. We are restoring the fertility by bringing in mulch and soil and planting coconuts, mango trees, moringa, plumeria, figs, dragonfruits, and more. There's a shower with cold water; it doesn't get very cold! 1 mile from ocean cliffs, 2 miles to a basic grocery store and a great weekly farmers market, 2.5 miles to Volcanoes National Park, 5 miles to Kehena public black sand beach at the base of the cliffs, with a community drum circle on Sundays. Welcome to the wild coast of South Puna! Optionally produce from our nearby rainforest garden. We may offer guided tours to local historical caves and bicycle trips to hidden beaches deep inside Volcanoes National Park.

There is always a relaxing spot on Bear's island, offering a shady perimeter of large native trees, a nice place for some sun or an evening fire to sit back, talk story and be amazed by the millions of stars unseen anywhere else on the planet. If you enjoy a farming or gardening experience, there is never a shortage of options. Just a few short miles away is Kilauea volcano (I'm on the safe side of the rift zone), which began erupting December 2024. Often shooting lava 1,000 feet above the caldera rim, it is a force of nature rarely seen by most. Just on the other side of the mountain awaits sprawling mountain views, Punalu'u Bakery, and a gorgeous black sand beach featuring one of the few places in the world that hosts a sea turtle resting sanctuary and viewing area. And there is always the coconut guy to show you how it's done! Hilo Bay is a 20+ minute drive, boasts waterfront shopping, fantastic restaurants and bakeries, a daily farmer's market and much more. Just north of Hilo is the scenic Hamakua Coast where you can hike through the rainforest and Waipio Valley Lookout, complete with wild horses. Back at Volcano, there a few things of note: The weather is TYPICALLY 72°-61°, not too windy or overcast. It can also be rainy for extended periods. Cabin is secluded, primitive, rustic, off-grid.
