The cabins have power and endless hot water. All water on property is rainwater harvested from our roof!
At night your ears will be greeted by the forest with sounds of coqui frogs. Many people love them 🐸 Please search for Bathing Suits and Rain Boots on YouTube to find a video of what our property sounds like at night. Our channel also features videos of tours we offer. More to be uploaded, check back often! Our tours include off the beaten path adventures ranging from sunrises and geothermal Kings baths, to prawn hunting to hikes that lead to waterfalls! They are all local gems that you will not find online or offered by any other tour guide agency. We are updating our ig @bathingsuitsandrainboots regularly with footage from adventures as well!
Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island!
There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks.
Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups.
Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour.

We are at 1880ft elevation so it can get chilly at night. Winters are also rainy season so if traveling to the Big Island in the winter, I suggest some light layers for warmth, a raincoat and rain boots.

Location: The site says we are in Leilani Estates, but actually we are located south of there, only 3 minutes from the coast, only 5 min to a black sand beach, only 15-20 min to natural geothermally heated hot ponds you can soak in, and approximately 50 min drive to Volcano, Pele's home.
(You will happily receive the actual address once you book! )
Our space is best for nature lovers, with several half open walls, as you will feel the elements and be serenaded by the frogs at night! Our kitchen is very simple. and our bathhouse has a flush toilet, and warm shower. We have electricity and lighting indoors, but there are no streetlights, because our neighborhood values stargazing, which is amazing here!
A few last details:
We will provide bath towels and there is soap in the shower for your use, as well.
Cell service- AT andT and Cricket cell service works best in our area.
The floor is earthen, so we have rugs, and clean it regularly, but it will appear rustic.
We do have a mosquito net over the bed, for folks who would like to use it.
And lastly, we have 2 social outdoor cats, that you aren't likely to see, but just might stop by and say hello!

A private off grid tiny home in a Protected Mango Grove surrounded by the the sounds of nature. At night in the distance you can occasionally hear the crashing sounds of the ocean and during the day the sounds of our rare hawaiian hawks and other birds, which is very peaceful.
The drive to our cabin is incredible! You'll drive through some of the newest land on earth and into a beautiful jungle! If you take the time to drive through you'll pop out by the ocean at a place called Honolulu landing. Just past it and over a few speed bumps is a nice grassy park called Waiakahi'ula Beach Park that has information about the cultural significance of the area.
We are about 45min from Hilo which has most of our beaches and shopping. Also only one hour from Volcano National Park. The big island is much bigger than you think so plan accordingly! Especially if you're wanting to do excursions on the other side of island, in Kailua-Kona. So come relax and enjoy beautiful Hawaii!

The cabins have power and endless hot water. All water on property is rainwater harvested from our roof!
At night your ears will be greeted by the forest with sounds of coqui frogs. Many people love them 🐸 Please search for Bathing Suits and Rain Boots on YouTube to find a video of what our property sounds like at night. Our channel also features videos of tours we offer. More to be uploaded, check back often! Our tours include off the beaten path adventures ranging from sunrises and geothermal Kings baths, to prawn hunting to hikes that lead to waterfalls! They are all local gems that you will not find online or offered by any other tour guide agency. We are updating our ig @bathingsuitsandrainboots regularly with footage from adventures as well!
Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island!
There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks.
Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups.
Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour.

We are at 1880ft elevation so it can get chilly at night. Winters are also rainy season so if traveling to the Big Island in the winter, I suggest some light layers for warmth, a raincoat and rain boots.

Location: The site says we are in Leilani Estates, but actually we are located south of there, only 3 minutes from the coast, only 5 min to a black sand beach, only 15-20 min to natural geothermally heated hot ponds you can soak in, and approximately 50 min drive to Volcano, Pele's home.

Our space is best for nature lovers, with several half open walls, as you will feel the elements and be serenaded by the frogs at night! Our kitchen is very simple. and our bathhouse has a flush toilet, and warm shower. We have electricity and lighting indoors, but there are no streetlights, because our neighborhood values stargazing, which is amazing here!
A few last details:
We will provide bath towels and there is soap in the shower for your use, as well.
Cell service- AT andT and Cricket cell service works best in our area.
The floor is earthen, so we have rugs, and clean it regularly, but it will appear rustic.
We do have a mosquito net over the bed, for folks who would like to use it.

A private off grid tiny home in a Protected Mango Grove surrounded by the the sounds of nature. At night in the distance you can occasionally hear the crashing sounds of the ocean and during the day the sounds of our rare hawaiian hawks and other birds, which is very peaceful.
The drive to our cabin is incredible! You'll drive through some of the newest land on earth and into a beautiful jungle! If you take the time to drive through you'll pop out by the ocean at a place called Honolulu landing. Just past it and over a few speed bumps is a nice grassy park called Waiakahi'ula Beach Park that has information about the cultural significance of the area.
We are about 45min from Hilo which has most of our beaches and shopping. Also only one hour from Volcano National Park. The big island is much bigger than you think so plan accordingly! Especially if you're wanting to do excursions on the other side of island, in Kailua-Kona. So come relax and enjoy beautiful Hawaii!

We stayed here for two nights with my wife. Even beyond what the reviews and photos show, Christopher & Esther were truly wonderful hosts, and The Tropical Duck is a beautiful place filled with charming animals.
If you’ve found this place, I highly recommend staying here. The cabin had everything we needed, and everything was clean and very comfortable. We also tried the optional duck eggs for the first time—they were very large and delicious.
Feeding the ducks, seeing peacocks up close, and spending time comfortably surrounded by Hawaii’s great nature was an unforgettable experience. Most of all, it made me so happy that my wife said she wished we could have stayed longer and that she wants to come back again.
Next time we visit Hawaii, we’ll definitely return with our family and children.

This is a special place, accessible, private and well maintained. The yip cottage with a hot shower is fun and well appointed. Even with other campers on site there was plenty of room and privacy. The cool night temperatures made it restful. Mahalo, Tom for the great conversations and hosting. I enjoyed the stay!

We spent a few nights in Chris and Esther’s cute little cabin and truly felt at home. The cabin has everything you need and is beautifully surrounded by nature. Small frogs sing you a lullaby at night, and ducks welcome you in the morning. Our kids especially loved the ducks and peacocks!
We had plenty of privacy, along with great support from Chris and Esther whenever we needed it. An additional advantage of staying here is that it’s an off-grid place, so even during storms, when the public electricity is down, you still have power.
The location is also great — very close to Volcanoes National Park, which made exploring the area easy and convenient.
We had a wonderful stay at Tropical Duck and an amazing experience with the hosts — we would love to come back one day.

3 nights at Hawaiian Retreat
The place was just perfect for what we needed, a safe and dry place to rest, meet great and nice people and eat fresh organic fruits (and a connection for the freshest tuna!). We were able to cook our meal from everthing off the farm in the rustic cabana kitchen. The hot showers were a plus! Thanks for the memorable time!

The cabin is incredibly cute and very comfortable. Thomas is a super friendly host and a nice guy. I would recommend doing the initial approach to the place in daylight as they are rural roads but all in all it's an amazing place to stay

Weekend Trip to Mocean View Inn
We loved staying at Dawn’s Mermaid Lair! It was exactly as described. We stayed two nights. It is a great location for arriving from Kailua-Kona, visiting Volcanoes NP for a day, and setting us up for Hilo and points north the following day. The kitchen was lovely and had everything we needed to prepare simple meals for ourselves. Dawn is lovely and knowledgeable and we enjoyed talking with her.

1 night at The Kikala Waterfall Lodge
The cabins were small, pleasant places of quiet with just the river rushing past and the birds singing. Loved sitting on the front porch with my tea.
Axel was responsive when we had a small issue and it was resolved in minutes. The main lodge had a kitchen (no stove but a microwave) and 2 bathrooms with showers. Saw goats and staff working in the garden.
All in all, a nice place to rest for a couple days.

Weekend Trip to Yip Camp and Eco-Retreat Center
This was such a fun stay! The cabin was full of character and Thomas was so welcoming and laid-back. We loved our encounters with the namesake host and property security (Yip). The cabin is close to a couple other camping sites on the land but it still feels private. The cabin itself was super comfortable - warm bed, hot shower, and cool loft which came in handy for drying our perpetually damp clothes.
The rainforest around the site is lush and dense. No stars as it was dumping the whole weekend but the sounds of the rain pattering on the roof and the symphony of coquis made for the perfect lullaby. We had a 4x4 so getting to the cabin was no problem but I'd definitely drive slow on the approach road as it's very dark at night and puddles/potholes seem to spawn in a few hours!

The most beautiful little cottage I’ve ever seen in my life. I felt like a fairy!! I was a little off-put by the lack of screening, but there were no issues and the open air feel was amazing. The bathroom was just steps away and was very clean and comfortable. The door handles were also so unique and beautiful

The Earth Nest was magical. If you love nature, you should definitely stay here — many of the walls are completely open, which makes you feel like you’re outside while still in the comfort of a covered lodging. It was super easy to find, and the bathroom was steps away from the main cottage. There was a mosquito net over the bed, and the bed itself was unbelievably comfy. The bathroom was well-maintained and clean, and the shower had hot water, which was so nice. There was a full kitchen, which we didn’t end up using as we were just there for a night but would be super nice if you wanted to cook (and having a fridge was great). The area was quiet and beautiful. My one issue was that we felt a little nervous about the walls being completely open without any screens or anything as it didn’t feel completely safe, but we had no actual issues and it seems like a pretty secure site otherwise so it wasn’t too much of a problematic. This place really felt like something out of a fairy tale, I would definitely recommend.

We loved staying here! It had all the bare necessities and such a beautiful space. The perfect getaway stay-cation. The only downsides: the walls aren’t screened it so mosquitos were very present! More candles would help. Also, make sure to bring your own spices and things for cooking. The pots, pans, plates and utensils were all provided but definitely bring oil, spices and any extras you’d want :)
