As a full-time host and tour guide, I take pride is giving people the best experiences possible while on island! Our properties are cozy and provide everything you will need being your home away from home while on vacation! Learn more about this land: The ultimate local experience while providing comforts to make your stay enjoyable. Live in traditional Hawaiian style homes! For guests unfamiliar with the Big Island, it is not like the other islands people travel to. If Oahu is more Americanized, the Big Island is still more of a Polynesian Island. Our property allows guests to enjoy a genuine local experience. The cabins have power and endless hot water. All water on property is rainwater harvested from our roof! At night your ears will be greeted by the forest with sounds of coqui frogs. Many people love them 🐸 Please search for Bathing Suits and Rain Boots on YouTube to find a video of what our property sounds like at night. Our channel also features videos of tours we offer. More to be uploaded, check back often! Our tours include off the beaten path adventures ranging from sunrises and geothermal Kings baths, to prawn hunting to hikes that lead to waterfalls! They are all local gems that you will not find online or offered by any other tour guide agency. We are updating our ig @bathingsuitsandrainboots regularly with footage from adventures as well! Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island! There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks. Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups. Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour. Please note the main image capturing a lava cliff sunrise is not visible from the cabin. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from us 🌊 ☀️ 🌋 We are at 1880ft elevation so it can get chilly at night. Winters are also rainy season so if traveling to the Big Island in the winter, I suggest some light layers for warmth, a raincoat and rain boots.

Super cute and cozy cabin, perfect for guests looking for an affordable stay without sacrificing comfort. Hawaiʻi Island is large with limited road connections, and our location offers a central base for exploring many of the island’s most desirable destinations. Featuring a bedroom and a private outdoor bathroom for an authentic Hawaiʻi Island experience. The lanai includes a mini fridge and Camp Chef oven with top burners for preparing small meals. Please note there is a shared community kitchen on the property reserved for other rental units—feel free to check our other listings if you prefer a full kitchen setup. There are a total of four cabins on this one-acre property. While they are in close proximity, guests still enjoy more privacy than typical hotel or condo stays. 🐶 We operate a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dog rescue, so there are often multiple dogs on the property. We also have free-roaming cats and chickens. 🐝 🦋 🐛 The property is intentionally planted to support pollinators, and we also maintain a monarch butterfly sanctuary, so you’ll often see butterflies throughout the grounds. Our bees help pollinate the fruits and vegetables grown on the homestead, and this cabin theme is dedicated to them. We recently transitioned the property to solar power, allowing us to operate more sustainably while still providing reliable energy throughout your stay.

Mermaid Lair with Rainforest Shower
We loved staying at Dawn’s Mermaid Lair! It was exactly as described. We stayed two nights. It is a great location for arriving from Kailua-Kona, visiting Volcanoes NP for a day, and setting us up for Hilo and points north the following day. The kitchen was lovely and had everything we needed to prepare simple meals for ourselves. Dawn is lovely and knowledgeable and we enjoyed talking with her.

Bee Aloha Crash Pad
Dawns place was perfect for a lovely and price conscious stay near volcanoes national park. The cabin was equipped with everything we needed for a comfy stay (including an amazing hot shower!), mini fridge, easy secure access on/off the property, and close to VNP. Dawn was super friendly and shared some great stories and tips about the big island. Mahalo for letting us stay! We’ll be back soon!

Lush tropical cabin

Dawn was a great host. She thought of everything you could want or need. We loved the vibe and the remote location. Coqui frogs are loud - we love them but others may not so just know ahead of time they are there. The cats are super friendly and keep you company on the lanai. We would definitely stay here again.

We absolutely loved our time at a green cabin. Property is organized with love, every detail is magical, string lights along the path, cute cabin decor, jungle shower, big comfy bed and lovely cats and dogs who came for a visit to our cabin terrace (don’t worry they do bark but they are sweet). There’s warm water in shower, it’s also private to your cabin! There was separate kitchen building but we didn’t cook. Would love to spend more time there and will definitely come back <3 thank you!

Mermaid Lair with Rainforest Shower
Awesome stay. Great base for getting into Volcanoes National Park. I slept like a baby every night and would often make it to the park by sunrise. I loved having the cats and dogs around. The dogs will bark when you arrive but settle down fast, so don’t let that put you off. They are all friendly especially the puppy named Pocket. Dawn was a gracious host, mahalo!

Dense Rainforest Getaway

The cabin at Dawn's property was simple and perfect for us. We loved having an outdoor shower surrounded by such dense foliage that a shower curtain wasn't needed at all. Dawn was easy to work and communicate with. The shared kitchen is huge and well-equipped; we met some Austrian travelers there. The property is far from the nearest streetlight or business, and feels very secluded. It is among other houses, but the greenery is too dense to see them. All in all a great value and a lovely getaway!

Mermaid Lair with Rainforest Shower
It was a brief, but great stay! We were taking a weekend trip from Oahu, so we just spent one night. By the time we arrived, it was pitch black but we had no problem finding the property or getting back to the cabin due to the very thorough instructions. We were greeted by the sound of very talkative coqui frogs (seriously, it sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, but SO cool) and a very friendly kitty that followed us to the cabin and sat with me on the porch for a long time. The room was comfortable and had all the basic things needed. My only complaint is due to all the solar lights outside not working, it was pitch black while trying to use the outdoor bathroom/shower. We needed to utilize our phones lights or the small lights provided to walk around. I was nervous but really enjoyed the “open air” showering facing the woods, but it was a really cool experience. Would definitely stay again if I find myself on the island! Very loud at night between the frogs and rain on the tin roof, so if you don’t mind that you’ll have a great stay (and if you don’t, dawn provides ear plugs in the room! All in all, beautiful location and awesome stay😊

It was an incredible cabin, had everything we needed, incredible views, great decorations, and even had snorkels available for use! Cant recommend it enough it’s the perfect camping retreat next to so many cool things on the Big Island!

Mermaid Lair with Rainforest Shower
Amazing and unique cabins. We stayed in the purple cabin 2 nights and we certainly enjoyed it. The bed was comfortable and it was very nice that the cabin had its own bathroom, as well as a refrigerator. Mountain View is a jungle community, and it has the most precipitation in the US, but there were almost no mosquitoes that disturbed us during our stay, so everything was great.

Rainforest Hideaway
We loved staying at the Jungalo. Dawn was welcoming and helpful with local recommendations. The space is fun and funky, the shared kitchen met our needs, and the hot water in the outdoor shower was a real treat. We were able to extend our stay by an additional night and would definitely come back to spend more time exploring Hilo, Puna and Volcano NP.

Amazing and magical place. Dawn was the friendliest of hosts i've met over the continents I've travelled. Having her as a guide, host and general friendly person around you while you're exploring Hawaï is already 6/5. She had the greatest tips for volcano explanation, farmers market and general unwinding. Must stay for Hawaï big island. ✨

Dawn’s lodge and land was amazing! The mermaid lair was very cozy and so cutely decorated with a blue and purple ocean theme. Absolutely loved the outdoor shower and bathroom setup too. If you’re looking for a place to stay in the rainforest that is close to the volcano and Hilo, this is a perfect destination!

This place is magical!! Right in the middle of rainforest, right in the middle of the volcano park and Hilo. Really nice patio to meditate, yoga and just relax. Mist importantly, Dawn is soooo sweet and hospitable. She’s super knowledgeable about the island and makes us feel at home. Her animals are so adorable. Could not ask for a better stay.

Dawn is a heart of this place. She is more than welcoming and she is happy to share any tips for sightseeing. Perfect spot to stay when you are discovering volcano park. The pleads is designed in tiniest details, which is impressive. Bed is spacious and comfy, and we enjoyed the outside warm shower with a jungle view! Extras include the sweetest dog and two cats plus home picked eggs! The nature around the house is vivid, actually we saw there more Hawaiian species than in National Parks where they hide from people.

Unique Jungle Glamping Bungalow!

Dawn’s ocean themed Jungalow was so cute and more spacious than expected! Super comfy bed and lots of fun little artistic touches make this place memorable and unique. The outdoor shower with a jungle view was an awesome experience. Dawn was a super host- extremely kind, knowledgeable, and quick to respond! I would definitely recommend this place!! Be aware that the property is a bit of a drive off the main road and “off the grid”- kind of in the middle of nowhere but still close to Hilo and the volcano. This was no problem for us, because that is exactly what we wanted! Thanks Dawn for the incredible experience!

Stay, relax and hear the island

Dawn has a great property and she is very kind. I really enjoyed my Jungalow stay and the outdoor shower was awesome. The bed was comfortable, the large covered patio was amazing for relaxing while watching the rain and the kitchen was very cool…and free fresh eggs!

Rainforest Hideaway
Dawn’s place exceeded my expectations. Driving there is definitely a journey on small country roads, especially in a downpour, but it was easy to find with instructions. Cabin was beautiful and cozy and the private shower/bathroom was so lovely! Hot water under ohia trees was a dream. Loved the big porch area to snack and chill after a long day of adventure. Shared kitchen was very clean and easy to use. Eating fresh eggs from the hens in the morning was lovely. Really friendly cats to hang with. Lovely environment to unwind and Dawn literally has everything you need (floaters, snorkel gear, robes, boat vests etc. for adventure, and all types of toiletries in case you forgot something). Appreciated the mini fridge, water and guide book in room. Felt very taken care of even if I didn’t have a chance to meet Dawn this time. Would definitely come back!

This was an absolutely incredible property with a helpful host and super cool accommodations. Even with the rest of the property, your spot in the jungle feels very private. This place is an ideal, incredibly relaxing place to stay close to VNP! Wish we could have stayed longer!

Dawns cabin is beautiful! It was a great experience, being in the middle of the rainforest. I especially loved the private open air shower and sitting at the deck at night, listening to the forest sounds.

Rainforest Hideaway
Dawn's space was deeply nourishing and enlivening. My friend and I enjoyed having our own little bungalow with an outdoor shower to be immersed in the jungle. The full kitchen accommodations were close by and surrounded by beautiful plants. 10/10 would book again!
