Located 31.5 miles south of Hilo on Highway 11, Nämakanipaio Campground is a large open grassy area at 4,000 feet of elevation featuring tall eucalyptus and 'ōhi'a trees. The weather can be highly variable with many cool and damp days. Daytime temps are usually in the 60s or 70s and nighttime can be anywhere from the 30s to low 50s (Fahrenheit). It’s highly recommended you use a tent with a solid rainfly, and bring comfy clothing for cool days, evenings, and the inevitable cuddle puddle.

Guests have access to our open air full bathroom with running water and a stunning rainfall shower (located at the main house). As all the land here is born of lava, many moons ago this land began to host plants and critters. Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. Peaceful breezes and warming sun make for unparalleled tranquility. Today the land still gives back to its visitors. Come recharge. As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others. The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain. There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby. It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community. As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go. Our road is paved, but bumpy. Any vehicle will make it without damage if driven slowly. 1 to 4mph tops. *Be sure to avoid the camper rental companies that restrict certain roads. Aloha and have a great day.

Located on the 1983 lava flow field. There are uneven surfaces that require careful attention but is safe for the adventurous and fit. No annoying croaking frogs and no mosquitos makes this sea level location with blue water ocean views and trade wind breezes a perfect paradise with very little rain and lots of sunshine. There a 10' x 12' raised deck gazebo with a picnic table and ample surfaces for exercising and stretch yoga. We are a few minutes from the black sand clothing optional beach and clean ocean soaking/swimming and Uncle Robert's Wednesday night music extravaganza. There are refrigerators available and a composting toilet and a hot water shower for conservative water showering as all water must be transported in. The advantage is very little rain and lots of sunshine makes this location a pleasure with fluffy clouds to look at that don't get you wet!!! 2 furnished small houses and a gazebo with ample parking space and solar charging for electronics. Starlink WiFi is available and will provide connectivity and cell phone links ! Your host Dani aka Gilligan has your best experience in mind and is eager to share local knowledge and fun island facts and insights through decades of island life in all of Polynesia! The property is upwind from the Kilauea Volcano National Park and when active the glow of the eruption can been faintly viewed at night from the property ! 🏄‍♀️🏊🌊🌴🏝️🌋🛏️🌈. Surfing swimming waves tropical vegetation volcanoes comfortable sleeping and lots of rainbows is what you can expect to find here on Gilligan's Islands!

We have a hidden exotic fruit orchard tucked away through rolling green hills, perched over the Hamakua cliffs, overlooking the pacific. We sell our fruits ripe and cut ready to eat at our roadside fruit stand, open 10-6 daily including holidays! We serve local fresh juices and machete open coconuts to drink ice cold. We grow mango, durian, lilikoi, star fruit, chocolate sapote, buddhas hand citrus, finger limes, tangerines and tangelos, jackfruit, tree grapes, mangosteen, white pineapples, mountain apples, berries, spices and much more. We are home to dozens of rescue animals, many who came from Puna during the 2018 lava flow. Meet peaceful sheep, lambs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and a lovable pet pig. Not to mention our friendly farm cats. We are a community of a few passionate farmers and fruit lovers. Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. There were some annoying children running around, but other than that the bathrooms were clean and it was a quiet peaceful place to camp for the night

The campground is rudimentary and doesn’t have clean restroom facilities. You can only get shower access if you rent a cabin or rent a tent. Paying site rental only gets you a toilet and sink. One bonus was the newish outdoor stainless steal camp sink with potable water for dish cleaning. The pull in sites are paved and level and equipped with decent picnic table and barbecue grill. Making Reservations over internet or phone seems impossible because no one wants to talk to you unless you are renting a cabin or a tent. I gave up and just gambled that I’d get a spot. There were actually 2 of 3 pull in spots when I showed up at 6 pm.

Single loop with simple campsite that are set close together. Bathroom but access to showers is restricted to cabin stays. Location is the main reason for our stay here since it's right by the park entrance.

We stayed at the great cabins but would have been just as warm in our tent and would camp next time. The trees smellled sooooo good there. I’d camp again just for that.

Pretty good camp. Spots were medium sized not too much privacy but not cramped. Fire pit level parking and ground, clean restrooms and sink station. Information easily available. Paying was a little tricky but only because I couldn't find a pen or didn't have exact cash...

I'm shooting east from site number 9 at 10:30p. Camping at Namakanipaio costs $20 per night $15 if you already have a Volcano's park pass. These sites get less costal moisture at night than camping in the national park and are 3 miles from the park entrance.
