We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature. Ani and I are big believers in being mindful and respectful of our environment wherever reasonable. So, we are incorporating both alternative and municipal utilities as they can fit into our homestead design and limited budget. Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" small living can feel. We all have personal priorities and those will vary greatly, and that's okay. But no person should be so self-absorbed that we have completely shut out the importance of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our fellowman. After all, if we don't have that, what do we have? To be completely transparent, though, the creatives in us also would like it if we inspired onlookers to possibly look at their own space and life a little bit differently. We've personally found it to be so fulfilling to distinguish real desires and needs from the ones we've been groomed to pursue, and then work to make them a reality. We've found it energizing to witness our fellowmen and women pursuing a dream. We'd like to be a stimulating memory along any person's journey. Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, and that they can appreciate some of our old-fashioned ways. We wished we got there a bit earlier to explore more. This is Lia I am 9 years old it was the first time I experienced a compost toilet and I thought it was good for the environment it was a bit challenging to use at first but when you get used to it it’s awesome. In the morning I got to spilt wood in half with a hatchet ! Kurt our host was super nice, very knowledgeable and did an amazing job at building his homestead. my seven-year-old brother did not want to get out of the outdoor shower because it was amazingly hot. We had an outstanding experience.

My family stayed two nights at the magnolia site. The site was clean and tent safe, we didn't need a tarp to protect the bottom from small brush or rocks. There was a nice camping toilet that was clean and right on site. Only interacted with host to buy eggs for breakfast but that was our choice, the host was friendly and I'm sure wouldn't mind more interaction if a camper needed it. Love the fact that they are a small farm providing non commercial goods to their community. We felt safe and secure in this site. Remember that this is a working farm and there will be farm noises. Thank you for hosting us.

The host, Will, is accommodating and very friendly. I would absolutely recommend this site and if we travel through south carolina again, we will definitely be staying here!

Palm Corner is located on the Southeast corner of the property. Its the flattest marsh front area.

This location is unreal and a true gem. Stunning water views and incredible stargazing. Care is put into this site - from the cleared camping space, dedicated fire pit and picnic table, and the well equipped outhouse (towels, toiletries, bug spray, water bottles, organic gummy bears - you name it). This site truly exceeded our expectations and we can’t wait to come back.

If I could live here, I would. As it is, I’ll just visit while I can! The IGA is 6 min away but when you’re there it’s 600 miles away. There is wildlife and neighbors. My only complaint is I’ve discovered I’m allergic to no-see-ems and they live here. So strong bug repellent, but if you have a problem with that, camping isn’t for you anyway :D

Weekend Trip to Cassabl Farm

We had amazing time tent camping here. We got to meet Steve and April as they brought wood to our campsite when we first arrived and they were very kind and answered all our questions. They told us all about the budding vineyard visible from the campsites and how it will soon support a winery that will be opening next year. We were lucky enough to be able to try a few of their wines and they were all delicious. We'll definitely be coming to visit the winery once it opens up! The camp sites were all well mentioned and felt safe and secluded. There was plenty of firewood available to purchase and the porta potty was clean and centrally located. My wife and I explored the property a bit with our dog and it was very nice. The sunset view of the marsh at the far edge of the property was absolutely gorgeous and it was really cool to be able to walk around the vineyard and check out that area of the campsite. We will definitely be coming back to camp here regularly!

Quiet, private and excellent hosts. Great for a guys weekend, family or just to get away and relax. The weather was 70s in the day and 40s at night and the bugs were only out for a couple hours in the morning and in the afternoon. Firewood was dry and well stocked, for 10$ a night. Great place, great hosts, will save the location for future getaways.

Curt’s property was perfect for my needs. He was very accommodating in showing me around and making me feel welcomed! I had a rooftop tent and a my dog Salem. The site was perfect for Salem and level for the car. I would highly recommend this location especially if you are interested in traveling to Savannah which is only about a 30 min drive.

The farm was once a portion of the McTureus Plantation.  Tony's family members were once enslaved on the plantation. Upon Emancipation a family member bought land and it remained in the family.  Tony is a descendant of those family members whose foresight allowed us to be here today.  Tony's parents entrusted the care and preservation of the property to us and we are doing our best to be good stewards and teach the value of this property to our children and young grandchildren.

Where to go

Coastal Georgia

There are several islands near Tybee Island where you can camp overnight. Just south, Little Tybee Island offers a truly primitive camping experience. Accessible only by boat or kayak, there are no facilities but campers can pitch a tent anywhere on the island. At Skidaway Island State Park, explore maritime forests and salt marshes then spend the night under Spanish moss and live oaks. Nearby Fort McAllister State Park offers Civil War historic sites, along with outdoor recreation and birding. Stay in a tent or RV at the campground, in a cottage, or head out into the backcountry to pitch a tent.

Inland Georgia

Head west and inland for city charms and more diverse geography. Private camping options let you stay in tents, RVs, or cabins near Savannah. Georgia’s oldest city is full of southern charm, ghost stories, and historic sites. Further west, Jack Hills State Park offers golf, a lake, and a campground that includes tent sites for tents and RVs and cabins. Go paddling or wildlife spotting at George L. Smith State Park, then spend the night in a cottage in the woods or camp lakeside. Magnolia Springs State Park lets you cool off in the natural springs, then stay in a tent, RV, or cabin.

Coastal South Carolina

If you can’t get enough of the coast, head north to North Carolina. Play a round of golf, hit the beach, or enjoy the resort lifestyle at popular Hilton Head. Stay at an RV resort on the island, or in a tent at a private campground on the mainland. Further north, Hunting Island State Park offers wilderness, wildlife, and saltwater lagoons, along with primitive, tent, and RV campsites, while Edisto Beach State Park offers an extensive trail network, maritime forest, and camping options that span walk-in tent sites to furnished cabins.

When to go

Visitors flock to Tybee Island in the summertime, especially over the weekends and holidays. For more manageable crowds, visit in the late spring and early fall, when the weather is still pleasant for beach and water activities. Hurricane season runs from June to November and can impact travel plans. Visit in fall for oyster season. Winter can be a good time for birding and a quiet escape.

Know before you go

You can get around Tybee Island by bicycle, scooter, golf cart, and taxi, but you’ll want a car to get to and from the island. All public parking on the island is paid.
Several beaches on Tybee Island offer wheelchair mats and fat-tired wheelchairs.
Bring insect repellent. Mosquitoes can be an issue in the area.
Pets are not allowed on beaches and buildings in most public parks.
Dispersed camping and recreation on Georgia Wildlife Managed Areas (WMA), where permitted, usually requires a license, permit, or pass.
