Long before Blackwater was here, this part of Georgia was the ancient coastline. Today, where that old coastal "trail ridge" meets the St. Marys River, you find a soft white private sandbar along a shallow, clean, refreshing, dark blackwater river surrounded by native woods.

The St. Marys is a freshwater, rain-fed river flowing from the Okefenokee Swamp.
Naturally occurring tannins from peat in the Okefenokee give the deeper water its black color, while the shallows turn a beautiful golden “sweet tea” color.

We own a small farm on 64 total acres with around 59 wooded. We have 4 primitive camping sites with lots of woods, wildlife, and two small creeks. We are even located on a short dirt road to give you that country feel.
All of our sites are spread out from one another and you will feel secluded in the woods with nature.
On our farm are free range chickens, peacocks, goats and a donkey in a pasture, turkeys (wild and domesticated), honeybees (in the field), and a few outdoor cats.
We enjoy our animals and nature. We want to share this experience with others so we have decided to rent a few camping spots that we have shared over the years with our children.
Enjoy the peaceful nights and the sounds of nature and star lit skies. In the daytime check out our farm animals, walk the trails, or explore the woods. Guest are welcome to pet and feed the animals if they choose.
We are conveniently located less than two miles from a Dollar General, three miles from several restaurants right of I75, 8 miles to nearest Walmart, under 20 minutes to High Falls State Park, under 25 minutes to Dauset Trails Nature Center, and under 30 minutes to Indian Springs State Park. All of this located close to our property while being only 3 miles from the I75 on ramp at exit 205.

• Power & hookups: No electric or water hookups. This is primitive tent and small-RV camping (rigs under 20 ft).
• Pets: Dog-friendly! Pets are welcome on-leash — we just ask that you clean up after them.
• Campfires: Campfires are welcome in the provided fire pits (weather and local fire bans permitting). Firewood is available at The Outpost, our on-site general store — please don't bring outside firewood, which helps protect the forest.
• Cell & Wi-Fi: You'll have good cell service, but there's no Wi-Fi — a nice chance to unplug while staying reachable.
• The Outpost: Our on-site general store stocks firewood, ice, and camp supplies, so you don't have to pack everything in.

The Neature Preserve (formerly known as "Tabby's Trees") consists of 74 acres made up mostly of pine forest situated in the coastal plain. A creek runs along the western boundary of the property with an ephemeral (seasonal) wetland to the southwest. The overstory of the forest is dominated by loblolly and slash pine with a few longleaf pine sprinkled in, as well as turkey oak, live oak, laurel oak, and sweetgum. We have ~1.5 miles of trails that wind through a variety of ecosystems (trails can hiked or biked). The property has three primitive camping sites. Two of the sites are for tent camping only (where you would park your car along the hiking trail and then follow a separate path to get to the campsite), with one site that has enough space to park multiple cars or small camper right at the campsite.
The Neature Preserve is all about restoring native habitat! Prescribed fire is used at The Preserve to safely and efficiently restore and maintain productive ecosystems and to support our native plant and animal species. Info about prescribed fire as well as other restoration practices and projects going on at The Neature Preserve can be found below.

- The interior of the South Loop was burned for the first time (in recent history) on February 14, 2024 and again on April 17, 2025.

- Future plans include a timber thinning to reduce canopy density, clear cutting some sections to be replanted in longleaf pine.
Wetland/Bog Restoration:

1) Canopy and midstory reduction (cut, pile, and burn) to support native, understory species

We are a working farm with garden (seasonal items for purchase), chickens (egg breakfast available for purchase), ducks, rabbits, pigs, cats, and dogs.
Enjoy a day in the country. Begin with a fresh egg breakfast at one of our picnic tables. Then enjoy a stroll on one of our many trails as you listen to the birds singing. Then if you'd like, book a canoe trip (guided/ drop off). When you return, how about an earthing session? We have a private hot outdoor shower nearby when you're ready to clean up. We have a grill available for cooking. And we can't forget the animals! We offer several interactive experiences with our animals, feed the chickens, pet a pig, or hold the bunnies.

I had a great stay at Surewood ForRest. I embedded up at site 4 because site 3 isn't suited for driving into the site. Could have easily fit 2 vehicles, or tents workout being on the path. Fairly quiet. Lots of forest sounds. Some distant industrial sounds but not enough to disturb.

Blackwater Ranch is a real gem of a property. Lots of activities, plenty of space, and tons of easy access to the river, which is the star of the show. One of the unique features of rivers in this area is their white sand beaches and Blackwater Ranch has some of the best I've seen. The river was low when I visited (drought) but I can tell that even when full it is a fairly shallow and slow moving river with multiple spots that stay shallow due to the way the water deposits sand, making it a great river for younger kids. Even the bugs weren't too bad, which being summer in FL/GA was a welcome surprise. The property is equipped with the necessities for a comfortable experience (water, electricity, pit toilet) but still very primitive and rustic.
I camped one night solo but will certainly be back with a group of friends!

The campground is very clean and well kept. The view was nice as well. It’s the perfect place to stop to break up a long road trip. I met one of the long term campers and he was extremely nice and spoke very highly of the owners.

The river right next to the site was so nice. It was great to have the deck and the covered area that we used as a camp kitchen. We put up two tents around the fire ring and had plenty of room. Access to the river is direct and easy. There was an area the dogs were able to use to get in and out as well. It wasn’t muddy and we didn't have any trouble getting to the site in our 2wd trucks. The provided directions were very clear and easy to follow. The neighbors do have a driveway that passes near the site, but they weren't disruptive or traveling in and out after quiet hours.

This was a wonderful campsite! It was right on Brasstown Creek (running from nearby mountain peak - Brasstown Bald), with easy access to the creek via a short set of stairs. Laying in the middle of the rushing creek was the ultimate comfort in mid-July. The campsites were well put together, and June (our host) was very kind and accommodating. There is a tubing company (West Tubing) which operates on that creek, also run by the host. The campsites are secluded from each other and feature a beautiful view of the creek below, and plenty of shade from the trees around.
We also enjoyed stopping by nearby Cupid Falls in Young Harris, GA - about a 15 minute drive away. Brasstown Bald offers a beautiful drive/hike to Georgia’s highest mountain summit, and is only about 40 minutes away. We only had the opportunity to eat at one local restaurant, but Young Harris Wings was absolutely terrific as well.
There is a dollar general grocery about 5 minutes away, as well as a convenience store - gas is a little bit further out of town.
The turn off of the road was slightly different than the GPS told - it is to the right side, and look for the sign with the Hipcamp logo next to a gate (also a sign saying “West Tubing Co”). I reached out for help finding it, and they called right away.
We stayed for 4 nights, and I would certainly camp here again!

This campsite was amazing! I hiked in with my 10 year old son and his friend, with 2 small dogs - very easy walk for about 3-5 minutes (was even offered assistance) but it ends up in a secluded forest clearing.
You reach a well appointed campsite with plenty of flat, well-groomed ground space for tents, and equipped with large fire ring and cooking grate, lots of countertop space and a new wooden bench. Small stream (no fish) runs by. Not for adventurers, but perfect for a quiet, relaxing, private night in the wilderness. Solar lighted pit toilets and very accommodating host. Would highly recommend. Wonderful stay.
