Golfers Driving range is great fun. Feel free to smack the provided golf balls into the abyss for max distance. Also the golf ball scavenger hunting in the canyon below can keep the kids busy for hours.

-No fires what so ever! Fire danger is extremely high in this area.
- Although we are only forty miles from the Sand Dunes park, it is a four hour drive to get there, so maybe not the best area to stay if the dunes are on your list.
- Days in the summer can get pretty hot and shade is hard to come by, so plan a day trip to Florence river park, (about 30 minutes drive)and hop in the Arkansas river and cool off.
- this is a wilderness area and all Colorado wildlife is present.

Don't forget we're at over 9,000 feet elevation and temperatures and weather conditions can vary greatly. Be prepared for all seasons!!!
Camp fire usage depends on current weather conditions at the time of visits in addition to any state/county restrictions that may be in place (host approval required)!!! IF there are no restrictions and fires are allowed, we have firewood bundles and/or starter packs for purchase at $10/bundle/pack. We also have two propane fire pits available for rent (see "extras"), or you are welcome to bring your own. If you have purchased wood and there are restrictions/bans, we will gladly apply your wood purchase the rental of a propane pit. Propane fire pit usage may also be restricted by current conditions or state/county restrictions!
Fresh eggs are available for purchase (when the girls are cooperating) by the dozen, or half dozen (see "extras"). You are welcome to go "visit" the chickens. Their coop is next to the large blue shop/barn.
*UPON ARRIVAL at the property, please WAIT INSIDE our main gate (unless otherwise directed via prior communication with host). The host(s) will meet you there shortly after passing through the gate and direct you to your site.

Camp Penguin at Wandering Penguin Ranch (facebook.com/CampPenguin) in southern Colorado is about a 3 hour drive from the Denver metro area, two hours from Colorado Springs and just under an hour north west of Canon City. We provide a variety of site options to choose from including tent sites, car/van/truck sites, and rustic trailer site options - all with NO amenities (NO electric/septic/water, etc). Additional vehicle parking on the property can be accommodated for groups with more than one vehicle. Please provide type of camper/tent and number of vehicles at booking so hosts can help direct you to the best site option available.
Guests can relax around our small pond or roam freely around our 35-acre property. There is both hiking and fishing at Badger Creek only a short drive away. Waugh Mountain State Trust Land is another hiking option and is also just a short drive up the road (*NOTE: the State of Colorado now requires a valid hunting/fishing license to access state trust lands)! Additionally, we are about 45-90 minutes away from a variety of alternative adventures! Some of these include Salida, Cripple Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Paradise Cove Swimming Hole, Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Manitou Incline, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience, several rafting/zipline and Jeep tour companies, Westcliffe, Bishop Castle and Canon City including Skyline Drive, Tunnel Drive, Royal Gorge Train, Museum of Colorado Prisons and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. Any of these can be done as a day trip or visited while on your way here, or home. (*NOTE: some of these attractions are free, some require a fee and some are seasonal. This is one of the most beautiful camp sites we have been to this year. Tim is great to work with and we appreciate him for sharing this property with us. If you get a chance to book, I would highly suggest you do. Spending time fishing with my young grandaughter was the best part of our trip. and the fishing was excellent. I also loved being able to take my dogs without any worries. Just a beautiful property.

this was one of the coolest places we have ever stayed! my husband never went to summer camp as a kid, so he was really giddy about it! the pond was awesome, our dogs loved it so much, they didn’t want to get out… they truly swam for hours. the property itself was beautiful and quiet, it was exactly what we were hoping for! thank you tim for allowing us to enjoy blue mountain ranch, we hope to be back!

Weekend Trip to The Hillfort
The campsite was perfect for us—having electricity was such a bonus! We had a nice, level spot for our Class B RV, plus plenty of space for our kids’ tent and their car. (Finally a campsite with true privacy). The views were fabulous, and at night we were treated to a stunning sky—we even saw the Milky Way! One of the highlights was getting a visit from some friendly cows from a neighboring property—we loved it!
It was also such a treat having Alex share stories with us—he’s delightful. And to have him come up in the morning with hot-out-of-the-oven lemon muffins his lovely wife had just made… just incredible! Wow!!!! -The muffins were absolutely amazing!!
Their land and hospitality were truly awesome. They made our stay so special. We highly recommend this Hipcamp and are already looking forward to coming back!

Tim and Lori were amazing hosts! They greeted us at the gate upon arrival and drove us to our site. Lori gave us homemade chocolate chip cookies, doggie bags with treats, a goodie bag for my kids to play with and fish food! They were available whenever we had any questions. The property is beautiful and spot 4 was the perfect spot for my family of 5 and our 2 dogs! We absolutely recommend this camp and 100% plan to come and stay again!

This is an amazing property. We came once before in July this year, and decided to invite our friends who brought their daughter (our daughters best friend, and our 4 year old sons favorite person) for her first camping trip. We had the area around the pond to ourselves, the girls (both 8 years old) had a magical time. All of us grownups had a great time too. The goodies for the kids and our dog were so much fun. We realized we dont really need to bring anything to entertain our kids next time. The place was fascinating to them. At one point the girls jumped into the pond together, it was truly an adventure! The kids are begging us to stay there a month next time.... if only that were feasible! We also took a hike up a hill to see one of their other campgrounds. It was amazing, although I'm not sure our car would make the trek. I love this place, it is such a gift that Tim and Lori have chosen to share their beautiful property so that families can have a much needed retreat. I cant wait to go back next year.

Tim and Lori were fantastic hosts. They meet us when we arrived and explained everything we need to know. They also gave us some fantastic cookies and doggie treats making us feel very welcome. They gave us our space to enjoy their beautiful property. Amazing how beautiful the sun rise was coming up over the mountains.
We had a young dog with us and it was his first time off leash to run and explore. It was a wonderful site to see him so happy. Thank you!

This was one of the most peaceful and beautiful campsites I have ever been to. Tim and Lori are very good hosts, they have thought of everything to make this a wonderful retreat, which is quite an art. Even the bathroom and the trash can were well thought out. The kids really loved gazing into the pond and observing all the wildlife. Our dog was the happiest he had ever been getting to run around our campsite and circle the pond with the kids. We will be back! A side note: We did a fancy weeklong trip to Disney World a few months ago..... Camp Penguin was hands down our favorite trip this year.

My wife and I loved camping out of our car on Tim & Lori’s land! It was calm and the view of Pikes Peak was great. We were able to gather our own fire wood which was a great option. There were lots of deer all the time and essentially no noise. We didn’t get a chance to explore the whole property but I would definitely like to go again to explore more. It was an amazing place!
