The Fisherman’s Cabin, hosted by Huts and Hills, has a rich and fascinating history. Originally built by two professors from Berkeley College, the cabin was designed as an annual mountain retreat. Each year, they would journey from California to Colorado, seeking peace and relaxation in the serene forests of the Lost Acres National Park. At the turn of the century, the nearby Denver Wheel Club, with its headquarters right by the river on Insmont Drive, would host a major bike race every year. Back then, the area had no roads, and the only way to access these lands was by train from Denver, making it an even more remote and special destination. I spent the next 11 years chasing corporate goals which I finally realized were inconsistent with my soul. I started a family and decided to sell this property. I brought my then 2 year old daughter here so she could see it once before I sold it. As we drove up highway 285 through vistas each more stunning than the last, I was moved to tears by the beauty. By the time we reached the property, I knew that we would be moving back here. Nearly 3 years later, we finally moved back with 3 dogs and 2 cats in tow. We love it here and truly belong in this place we call home. We have some amazing hiking trails and Arapahoe National Forest in our backyard! Maxwell National Trailhead is 9 mins from the property with free parking and free entrance. Cub Creek Trail Head is also around the corner. Evergreen Lake- 15 min car ride. Fishing, kayaking, picnic. Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre- 30 min car ride. Summer concerts, and movie nights at the park. Our property is at 10,000 feet in the foothills of the Rockies. The last mile is unpaved and has some steep inclines. We receive quite a lot of snow (Oct-May). We require that guests use AWD/4WD vehicles and winter tires to safely access our dome during snow months. My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the A frame cabin. The modern and minimalist design was really comfy- we felt right at home. There are many great places to explore and hike nearby. This a frame was the perfect weekend get away. It’s spacious, comfortable, clean, and cozy. We loved the hot tub, pizza oven, and projector screen. This was the perfect trip to get a mix of the outdoors with all the comforts of home! We spent so much time using the hot tub and the projector. The kitchen was perfect to make everything we planned and we were so impressed with all of the amenities. There were other people on the property, but we didn’t even notice and had tons of privacy. The house was super clean and so comfortable! We will definitely stay again and would recommend this to anyone looking to get away to the mountains while having all of the comforts of home!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this property! It was the perfect spot for a getaway with my pups. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and immaculately maintained, and the cabin itself is both charming and full of fun activities. We were lucky enough to have plenty of hummingbird visitors during our stay, and even had a massive bull moose stop by on our last night. T was an incredible host and made sure we had everything we needed. This will definitely be our go-to place to stay whenever we’re in the area!

Loved this spot for our family! In the summer the setting could not have been better. It is a cabin built in the 60s so of course its not perfect but the owner has done an excellent job on making it modern and providing all amenities we needed. Be aware that it is about 25-30 mins in to the nearest town with grocery stores and restaurants. We just picked up groceries on our way in and cooked at the cabin which wasn't a problem with the well stocked kitchen. If you're coming to enjoy nature and the beauty of the Colorado mountains this is the place for you! We did have a moose that we encountered while exploring on the first day and he was feeding on the trees right outside the window the second day. It was incredible to see but just be very careful when exploring. We would recommend this place to friends and would book again if we come back to the area.

We loved our trip to the Fishermans Cabin! The sun would shine down on the side of the mountains to our south each evening at sunset for a stunning view. We were a ways from the river and thought we would be closer and also found out we couldn't fish the river because the fisherman's club has bought up the land around the river making it inaccessible to others. But we didn't have to go far to find a place to stick our feet in the river. The cabin was cozy and clean and well stocked with essential needs. Toilet shack was clean and not far at all from the cabin. Highly recommend a trip to this place. Lots to do and lots to see in that area! Or, a great place to just lay in the hammock, also provided, and enjoy the smell of pine and enjoy watching wildlife. Thank you Simon for the wonderful experience. We alos got to meet the grounds keeper who lived just down from there ,,Bearcat I believe was his nickname...super sweet man and he brought more supplies and water for us and offered more blankets if we needed. Our family of four had a wonderful time staying in the A-frame cabin, surrounded by the stunning Aspen Trees. The cabin was extremely clean and cozy.It had so many accommodations and beautiful views. Our favorite part of the stay was relaxing in the hot tub under the twinkling lights and listening to the rain on the tin roof. We then snuggled up together for a movie night, using the screen projector. My daughters loved the upstairs room, saying it felt like they were sleeping in the trees. We are looking forward to returning in the fall, surrounded by the beautiful fall foliage and warming up next to the wood-burning fireplace.
