Weekend Trip to Underworld Farms

My grandkids had a blast exploring the area. The boat was a bit noisy at night when the wind would blow through but the kids slept through. The solar powered lights were beautiful at night. There’s very little light pollution from city lights, so the stars were amazing!

2 nights at Okihi- Reimagining The Kern River

Nestled by the beautiful Kern River only minutes from the City of Bakersfield lies the hidden gem that is Okihi. We recently enjoyed two relaxing days and nights at this tranquil and serene place. The accommodations were excellent and Katherine was an amazing host. We had fun exploring the grounds, hanging out by the river and getting to know the animals. Who knew such a cool place was right here in our backyard! We’ll definitely be returning to recharge ourselves soon. We highly recommend Okihi to anyone wanting to do the same.

I loved camping at wandering star ranch! Beautiful campground, plenty of space to explore. The views of lake Isabella were amazing! The concrete pad and pontoon boat made excellent locations to cook dinner and relax. Booking, checking in, checking out were all straight forward and easy. Toilet was clean. Will for sure be returning in the future!

Such a heavenly location! We stayed at the playhouse, it was cute and cozy. The grounds were well kept and really charming. Loved the proximity to the river and having an outdoor kitchen was fun too, don’t get to cook outdoors everyday. Would def go back!

Weekend Trip to The Hideout - 100+ Acres Oak Trees

Rachel was wonderfully helpful, especially when my car battery died and I needed help connecting with AAA. She is just getting started with HipCamp, and her land has great potential. Although camping spots are not really well designated yet, we were able to pull off of a dirt road and camp with a beautiful view and absolute privacy. The quiet spot with only nature in sight is exactly why I prefer HipCamp to standard campgrounds. I fully intend to return, for it is an easy drive from Los Angeles.

ArtFarm was a lot of fun for us and our teenage girls. We had great time with our doggo having free rein and our cozy cabin still had enough room for board games and meals. Communal kitchen and bathroom were clean and convenient. Our youngest really enjoyed feeding the goats and chickens. Hiking nearby as well. Staff super friendly and accommodating. First time using HipCamp, thanks for a great experience!

Wonderful spot right next to the creek! It was peaceful to hear the creek at night. The communal kitchen was great and had everything we needed to cook comfortably all weekend. The provided wagons were helpful getting our gear in and out of the space. The fire pit was nice and large in size, plus it was nice that bundles of wood are located in the same spot. A beautiful piece of land and very peaceful. Will definitely be coming back.

Underworld Farms is a small goat ranch in the Kern River Valley. Surrounded by forestry land, on the Kern River, and on top of what used to be the old town of Whiskey Flat (Later re-named Kernville). There is no end to the beauty, history and adventure all around the property. Life took us to the Kern River Valley after moving out of Los Angeles. We enjoy living in the Southern Sierras immersed in all its natural beauty. The small but magnificent town of Kernville is approximately two and a half miles north of us. Our livestock includes horses, dairy goats, sheep, and rabbits: Most of which are raised and bred as our son's 4H or FFA projects. You may be wondering why our farm is called "Underworld Farms". In a nutshell, since our ranch is on the footprint of the historic town of Whiskey Flat, we just happen to be south of the old Whiskey Flat "Boot Hill" Cemetery. Our "driveway" is the road that led from the old town of Kernville to the cemetery. We hope that you consider parking your RV, van conversion, or trailer on one of our customized spots on the property. Or drive your vehicle and pitch a tent on one of our tent friendly sports. Or enjoy a stay in one of our small cabins. Regardless of what you stay in, you will definitely have a memorable time. The campground is VERY barebones and rural. Critters, bugs, and sometimes fellow Hipcampers can be sparce or prevalent pretty randomly. Because Underworld Farms is a working ranch, you will probably hear livestock noises like horses neighing, sheep and goats calling, and our protector dogs barking from time to time. We encourage you to walk over to the horses and goats and meet them. They especially like when you bring them carrots or apple pieces. The ranch has a double outhouse with a hand washing station sandwiched in between, it is rustic and bare bones. We check it to see if it has paper products, soap, water, and plenty of room in the trash bins. During the hotter months, the "daddy longleg" spiders enjoy infiltrating the outhouses and seem to spin new webs overnight. But they and their webs are harmless and easy to brush off. We ask for your assistance if there is something missing, or the trash needs taking out, or if the spiders have taken over again by getting ahold of us through the Hipcamp App and letting us know. With all that being said, there is an ambient beauty here that is unbelievable and memorable. This beauty and draw is so powerful that it causes the many people who come visit to make arrangements to live in our little valley. There is much to do in and around our valley that you couldn't do it all in a lifetime. We hope that you come and stay at the ranch while enjoying our valley. You are welcome to pitch a tent by the river; however, we ask that you please notify us as the lawn irrigation is fully sprinkler operated. Just on the other side of the river you will find the California Living Museum (local zoo), Lake Ming, Kern River Golf Course, multiple riverfront picnic spots, Miracle Hot Springs up the mountain, hiking trails, nature walks. and more! Less than an hour up the road are wilderness camp sites and Lake Isabella. Continuing onward is the Sequoia National Forest where you can visit for the day knowing a comfortable & safe home will be welcoming your return. *No parties or events allowed (Please, no music or loud noises allowed outside of the home). This is a extremely quiet neighbrohood and noise travels fast & easily. Quiet hours are 10pm-8am. The property is equiped with noise monitoring devices and occupancy count devices, we will be notified if noise levels exceed a certain level. Additionally we will be notified if occupancy count exceeds the number of guests booked on site. *Smoking allowed outdoors only. *Shoes off inside the house. *Children MUST be supervised and monitored at all times. *No surprise guests, only those accounted for and registered can enter the property. *No firearms *Please do not put grease or solid food down the kitchen sink.
