The outhouse that you see was used when it was first built and now is for storage.
The original owner built the house himself and it was originally on piers alone with no other foundation!
There is a folder in the bedroom closet of the house over the years.
The decorations were here when we bought it so we kept them to preserve the house’s uniqueness.
We treasure this house which is nestled amongst the trees and has so many beautiful birds that visit.
Many turkeys love to stop by too!
If you hear the deep cooing from the monster doves (who are very shy) you can try to spot one. They are amazing.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Lake
Dante was an amazing host! He met us at the top of the driveway and led us to the campsite. Also offered fresh chicken eggs and any thing else we may have forgotten. Our dogs also loved running up and down the muddy lake edge and swimming!
This private housing area and lake are ideal for families. As well as the limited cell signal helps you check-out from reality. If you are looking for a campsite that is more disconnected - an area without housing developments in close proximity or the nearest guest campsite less than 100ft away. Or walking trails that aren’t a risk to trespass onto private property - this site likely isn’t for you. Dogs sensitive to strange noises (chickens, goats, or locals fishing on the lake) is also worth noting.

Site manager was really friendly, came by to check in on me in the morning
However.. The person I was messaging would respond hours after I message them. They said they would send me a map of the area but never did.
The cove is quite cozy, it's an actual cove. Cabin 9 (I think) kind of overlooks the campsite, but they have some wall/barriers set up so it doesn't feel overly intrusive. The ground is pretty flat so it's a good setup anywhere around the site.
The site owners have nice turf patches that you can move around and set your tent on top of, so it's nice to have some padding under as well.
You can hear the cows in the distance and when you have time, walk around the site, there is quite a nice view of the lake and surrounding meadow. Really nice view.
It's quite peaceful, and they put thoughtful touches like fairy lights that are solar powered and an electrical outlet nearby the site. The site manager, Ray, I believe, told me they are continuously looking to improve the site for a more enhanced experience.
Overall, I did enjoy the stay, the campsite was really peaceful, it might've been a slower season at the moment, but the weather was cool, site was comfortable, and I had a good time.
Will come back again.

Booked a spot in the Cove tent camping area. Very peaceful and secluded. Cows in the valley below brooding daytime and at night coyotes howling. Lots of stars in the clear skies. It was cold at night, late February, (low 40's) so I decided to car camp. The camp hosts are really sweet. The toilet was close and very well kept. This is a quiet spot, yet only about a 25 minute drive to downtown Julian. I was the only tent camper, the cabins near by had occupancy. There is also a lower tent camping area that gets much more sun. I hesitate to recommend it for selfish reasons! Definitely a place I will return to. Great spot!

Our stay at Hideout Mountain Lodge was wonderful. The place was very clean, peaceful, and thoughtfully equipped with a flush toilet and hot shower—such a perfect mix of comfort and nature.
The hikes nearby were amazing, with breathtaking views and fresh mountain air that made every step worthwhile. It’s the ideal spot to relax, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. We would happily stay here again!

We loved car camping here. Our campsite had a bonfire pit and picnic table. We were also a quick walk to a flush toilet and a sink with potable water. We enjoyed a campfire while star gazing and hearing the occasional cow and coyote. We also heard lots of frogs throughout the night. The only downside was hearing the cars, but it wasn’t too bad.
The host was quick to respond to any question I had. I would love to come back here with a group. Thank you!

The Cove is a great spot for camping in the shade and the artificial grass mats provided in spot #1 was more than enough to act as additional insulation between the ground and the tent. Also, great overall camping spot for those wanting to visit Palomar, Julian and other nearby areas.

My experience at Dante’s lake was awesome. I booked super last minute (day before) due to being unaware of how many people were interested in camping over the MLK weekend. Dante responded in less than an hour of me booking. He texted me the direction and a meet up spot where he would help us navigate directly to the camp site. I texted him what we’d be driving in. We met him on camping day and he was super nice and helpful. He offered fire wood, told us about his lake, the canoe, his dog, goats, neighbors, and let us know he lived right by the lake. So if we needed anything we could come to him and just ask.
We unloaded. Tied our dog up on a stump. Went out on the lake in the canoe. Cooked burgers. Started the fire right before dark and passed out asleep around 8pm.
Going to bed listening to crickets, chickens, and owls was so surreal. My daughter slept all night.
The next working was awesome! Waking up to the lake, rooster, and birds chirping reminded me of a Folgers coffee commercial.
Definitely coming back some timethis year.

Dante was extremely helpful and communicative before we even arrived. He met us on time on the main road to guide us to the site. He gave us a quick tour and different options such as fishing or canoeing on the lake. He also brought us a fire pit to use during our visit. The neighboring site was a little closer than we expected, but was still a great place to camp. Would definitely stay there again.

I loved camping here! Dante was an amazing host. The location and view is wonderful any type of camping you plan to do, with lake and boats to use, fishing was fun and easy. The whole area is a picture worthy and the near by animals added to the outdoor experience you may have had to drive several hours away to get, rather your passing through town looking for a good campsite or want to do a weekend family get away. This place is awesome, will be booking again in the future.

Cove #1 and 2 are quite spacious and tucked under the shade of large Oak trees, great for staying cool on hot days, maybe not so great if you need to recharge batteries with solar. Showers and toilets are a short walk away. All of the campsites aren't far from the main road so there is considerable road noise during the day, but it quiets down to almost none at night. There are so many stars visible after dark, it's magical. I didn't have the opportunity to meet the property manager, but I did notice him assisting other guests and the housekeeper, Janice watched out for me as a solo female camper, even bringing me leftovers from her Thanksgiving dinner. :)

Dante was great host who offered firewood and use of a canoe. This was a first tent camping trip for my two sons and when it was time to pack up, they both said they wish we had an extra night. We all caught a fish. The relaxing sound of the frogs and owls was perfect. Unzipping the tent door to the view of the lake in the morning was awesome. We saw ducks, turtles, egret, along with a few of Dante’s goats. Very peaceful and remote.

The area is nice. The cove#2 was shaded which made is pleasant. There are other areas with better views if that's something you care about.
There was a place to start a fire in each spot, which is ideal to have a camp fire and sit around it.

Great spot. Water and power hook up. Easy access. Short walk to the great bar at the bottom of the hill.
Only down point is it is located next to two windy roads. Sports cars and bikes use these roads over the weekend, so can sound at times like a F1 race!
