This rugged stretch of California coast has sweet views and plenty to do. There are rocky promontories, coastal forests, and kelp-dotted beaches to explore. The dramatic cliffs here are sandstone that has been eroded and shaped by the sea. You might see cave-like features called tafoni. Tafoni is formed when the ocean deposits salt on the sandstone. The salt interacts with the sandstone, hardening parts of it and forming the signature honeycomb features. It also gives this park its name. All these features make Salt Point a great place for climbing. Where else can you lead an overhanging roof while looking out over the Pacific? Make sure you check the tide tables, some routes are underwater at low tide!There is also plenty of hiking in the area. gorgeous spot and gorgeous tub. thank you andrea! it’s was extremely private and the tub leveled up our experience, now it will feel hard to go camping without one! :P if you’re going in the fall or winter, do NOT skip out on the heater add on. i figured since it was an insulated yurt we would be fine, but we were extremely cold when going to bed! luckily, the water was nice and hot all night in the tub, which was incredible. hope to come back here one day.

Weekend Trip to Wild Canyon Ranch CA

We took a pre-school class camping at Tyler’s place! We really had a great time. The kitchen and bathroom worked great even though we had close to 30 people at max. The donkeys and cows were a huge hit. The property provided plenty of space to roam and explore so the kids had a great time. The hike to the creek was a bit more intense than we realized but the creek itself was great! Just a very big climb back to home. Overall both the kids and the adults had a spectacular time and we plan to come again

We had an amazing time at this fantastic campground! The location is beautiful, super private and peaceful, with lovely sunsets and sunrises. The stars at night were spectacular with no light pollution. Plenty of space for our group of four families to spread out, and the kids had a great time and loved the donkeys and Highland cows. It was very helpful having a fridge, toilet/shower, gas fire, and camp stove on site. Tyler, the owner, was very helpful and welcoming. He met us when we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing, family-friendly place to camp!

We had a fantastic time at Andrea's place! It was a hot day, but the surrounding trees provided plenty of shade, keeping things cool and comfortable. We loved watching the stars at night and catching the sunrise in the morning. The absolute highlight was the relaxing hot soaking tub—it was perfect! Just a heads-up, as other guests have mentioned, there are mosquitos, so be sure to bring bug spray. Also, make sure you follow the directions Andrea provides; they are clear but essential for not getting lost. We highly recommend a four-wheel-drive vehicle for the trip.

A bath in the woods with a view? Who would have thought! Definitely the highlight of our yurt camping experience. Even my 19 year old son said it was his favorite part. I loved the vibe of the yurt. We usually rough it so I totally felt spoiled crawling in to my real bed at the end of the day. And my daughter said tea on the bench watching the sun rise over the mountains was her highlight. (The red yurt slept three adults easily, could have done 2 more if we wanted.)

We had such a wonderful stay at Tyler’s campground while celebrating a birthday with family! Tyler was an above-and-beyond host—so responsive, helpful, and thoughtful. The natural spring water throughout the property was so fresh and delicious, and we all loved meeting Banjo and Jenny, the donkeys, who greeted us with excited heehaws when we arrived. When we realized we forgot a coffee grinder, Tyler came to the rescue, which made our mornings that much better. The waterfall was incredible, especially in the hot and dry weather—it was refreshing and absolutely worth the trek down, ripe blackberry bushes lined the trail halfway down providing a delightful pick-me-up. We’d love to come back. Thank you, Tyler, for making our stay so special!

One of the best places for family or friends to gather. The campsite is private and peaceful, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. Tylar is a lovely guy—don’t hesitate to talk with him because he responds quickly and clearly to any questions. Unfortunately, I had to leave earlier than planned due to personal reasons, but I will come back again. Highly recommended!

1 night at Shangri-La

Great woodland camping. I took a short trip on a weekday to see the Perseides meteor shower as Shangri-La camp is located in a low light pollution area, class 2 of 9 on the Bortle scale, 1 being the darkest. Campsite 3 has a good sky view for this. Unfortunately the moon was around 83% on my trip, but still beautiful. I was also looking for a place to test out my new 11’ camping hammock and stationed a Camp 2, this was perfect. I had fun testing out my new setup, it can be difficult to gauge online sometimes if the tree distances will work for you. Camp 2 and Camp 1 both had a handful of hammock spots with good trees spaced at 14’-16’. Very good for the 11’ and 12’ camping hammocks that need a bit more room to lash up. The campgrounds have a good layout, and the whole area was well maintained, with the luxury of a flush bathroom. I enjoyed the solar powered path marker lights that illuminated the paths right after dusk. While I did not stay in a Yurt as I prefer the dirt, they did look very nice from the road. The poison ivy was managed very well around the camp. I did not see a single tick. A few mosquitos at dawn and dusk but not a problem that a little repellent couldn’t solve. Caught a glimpse at a deer and a jackrabbit both hopping through the meadow as well. I believe I was the only camper that night and it was without any human noise pollution, just crickets doing their thing. No cell service (AT&T) it’s a good thing! Will come back, great stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at WCR! Great place for a group (we were eight). So quiet and peaceful, far from civilization, that you can truly enjoy stargazing. The facilities were great (who doesn't appreciate a full fridge with an ice maker while camping), and we all loved hanging out with the donkeys. Easy to prepare meals for a big group, and appreciated having both gas and charcoal grills.The "casita" on the property that Tyler built is great, with kitchen space (toaster!), bathroom, shower, and a hangout area. Tyler was so responsive to any messages and provided a cell phone at the space, should you have any questions. Definitely don't rely on GPS. Tyler's driving instructions in his message were key; it's a windy way up to the ranch, even with all of the signage for WCR that Tyler has posted. Be cautious and take your time when arriving after dark, given the windy nature of the roads.

Very nice camp spot for larger groups. Enjoyed the quiet space, nature feel, and amenities on site: plenty parking, fridge/freezer, toilet, shower, food prep area. The hike to the flowing creek is a bit challenging - suggest 4wd vehicle, but well worth it. We frolicked an afternoon through the creek with water shoes picking blackberries with our kids.

2 nights at Golden Rocks Permaculture Farm

AMAZING!!!! I feel reenergized and could not be any happier. An experience that was a mix of relaxation, pampering and also educational. The farm is peaceful with beautiful Mountain Views, lush gardens and the most gorgeous night starry skies. I stayed in the Art studio. Which was super cozy, with a comfortable bed and a great little walkout porch, to enjoy both my morning tea and stargazing. Taking full advantage of all the possible add ons, that the host offered. I ate delicious farm to fork meals, had the best massage of my life and went on a very informative herb/garden tour. And as if it couldn’t get any better, my visit coincided with a natural building workshop on the farm. This experience made me realize the importance of good food, self care and quiet reflection time. I left Golden Rocks not only with fond memories, but with several farm made purchases. Such as fresh veggies, herbal tinctures and lovely teas. I could go on and on, but I think my point is made. I 150% recommend this stay and hope many others too have the privilege. Thank you Brenda and I will be back for sure!!!

Weekend Trip to Golden Rocks Permaculture Farm

Brenda was absolutely amazing—so sweet and accommodating. I felt at home the moment I arrived on her breathtaking farm. The land offers million-dollar views, and the balcony of the art studio overlooks a serene valley, with neighboring horses, goats in the distance, and mountains all around. At night, the sky is incredible for stargazing right from the deck. Brenda also offers a $12 farm breakfast, which I sadly missed—but I highly recommend taking advantage of it. The farm cats were adorable and so friendly. The art studio itself was clean, cozy, and incredibly comfortable, with a kitchenette, fridge, and AC. Waking up to views of horses and mountains from the kitchen was magical. As someone who studied sustainable environmental design, I appreciated the creativity and function of the compost toilet—it felt like the Wild West meets eco-innovation. Brenda’s other handmade structures, built from recycled materials, look like charming adobe cottages. It’s also just a short hop to Harbin Hot Springs. If you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful stay with a kitchen and stunning views, this is it. The moonlight across the farm was pure magic. I loved walking under the stars, listening to the night sounds, and greeting the horses. I’m 100% coming back. Please book with Brenda—she’s truly lovely, and you will absolutely enjoy your stay. It’s a peaceful, magical place you won’t want to leave.
