Once settled by Tubatulabel and Shoshoni tribes, this area is rich with reminders of their habitation. Grinding rocks near Tipi camp are one of those. When gold was discovered in the Kern River Valley, most of the native tribes were displaced but their decendents here in the KRV keep the history alive with language studies and cultural events.

We are the largest Arabian horse rescue in the United States. We are on 100 acres, but are currently using only 10 fenced acres for our horses. We have an average of 75 horses on our property. Most live in larger areas or paddocks in group "herds". We focus on rehabilitation and training with the goal of finding permanent homes for our horses. However, we have about 30+ horses who are "sanctuary horses", either because they are older, or were traumatized, or have health issues, thus will not be rideable. They get to live their lives out with us.Learn more about this land:Come pitch your tent on our horse rescue ranch. Two spots are near our little Western Town, you can even sleep in the jail or inside the general store. Another location is near the horses or in a more secluded area. We have two spots to park RVs as well. You can visit with the horses, while enjoying some idyllic beautiful high desert vistas. At night, you can see the city lights from a distance, but it is far enough to really see the stars in the night sky (no light pollution). Please bring your own chairs. We have a serviced porta-potty with potable water access. Camp Fire: Because of fire danger, there are no campfires possible. We have a working gold mine across the street, that can be hiked up to, to a certain point. We have lots of desert trails surrounding us. Activities: Learn about horses and help at the horse rescue, feeding and watering, giving horses treats. All proceeds from your camping on our property goes to support the horses at our rescue.

I have 21 acres that is raw land and another 2.5 acres further north. I have personally camped on it a couple of times the land majority is flat with sage brush and rises about 15 feet at one end. It is a pie shaped piece of property, the point area would be the high part, and it has great views from on top, all of the land is extremely quiet. There is hard packed DG roads going all the way to the property (see maps). The property sits approximately 1/4 mile away from point "B" on the California City Off Road Vehicle Trails, straight from the property down Temple Road to Point B. California City does require permits for Off Road riding. IF you choose not to ride the property is very quiet and a good get away. I have cricket as cell service, and I get 5 bars out there. The property additionally is approximately 2.5 miles away from HWY 395. I don't see or hear anything from the hwy. There are NO facilities on the property. Showers and dumping stations are further down Twenty Mule Team Road approximately 10-15 miles (not sure) they have a small store and from the property to center of Cal City is approximately 17 miles. The ground is mostly decomposed granite, with some small boulders, lots of sage brush, usually spaced about 12 feet from the next one. roads/trails are on all 3 sides of the property. At night you can see practically every star in the sky, no light pollution. When I was there it was so quiet I had to turn on music at a low volume as otherwise it was too quiet. Ask any questions please. Thanks, Gregg

Our guests will enjoy a spacious quarter-acre site all to themselves. Per county zoning, we only allow 4 RVs per acre. We don’t price by size or year, but by lot. We’re 13 miles from Fremont Peak, 14 miles from Grass Valley Wilderness, and just 4 miles from Cuddleback Dry Lake — the perfect location for all your outdoor toys. The property features mostly flat landscapes, making setup easy. Please note: we do not provide hookups of any kind. We only ask that you enjoy yourselves and help keep our community clean by remembering the Leave No Trace motto.
