RV camping near Malibu guide

Overview

The always-camera-ready mountain-backed coastline of Malibu is a must-stop for RVers, whether you’re toting surfboards, bikes, fishing poles, or hiking shoes. More than a celebrity-spotting haven, this area just west of Los Angeles is jam-packed with state parks and beaches. Hiking and biking trails abound in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Malibu Creek State Park, and Topanga State Park. Further west, Leo Carrillo State Park is known for its coastal caves while Point Mugu State Park has more beaches and rocky bluffs. Surfers will want to check out Zuma Beach, which sits next to the headlands of Point Dume, home to a small nature preserve and ocean viewpoints where you might spot migrating whales in the winter. There are a couple of RV parks and sites along the coast, and some of the state parks have campgrounds that accommodate RVs. More RV parks sit north of 101. Always check fire warnings in this wildfire-prone region.
