Our 220 remote acres are adjacent to Shasta Trinity National Forest in the beautiful Cascade Range between Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta in Northern California.
It's a working ranch with tree farms, animals, hydroelectric power, sawmill, gardens, orchards, creeks, springs, trails, and our camp alongside Kosk Creek.
We're 54 miles from Redding off of 299E, (about 1-1/2 hour drive). DO NOT TAKE ROAD 11 FROM THE NORTH, IT IS CLOSED! PIease try to ignore the "car art" in the Pit River Tribe's Rancheria as you're coming here. Drive right through it, it's no reflection on us. The last mile or so of the road here can be pretty rough, but on arrival, you'll know it's worth the trip!
No Cell phone service available here, so it's the perfect opportunity to unplug. We do have a land line up at the house in case of an emergency. Also, if you really need it, WiFi is available at the house.

“The Bunky”
The Bunky is an off-grid cabin located 9 miles from downtown McCloud. It is a rustic cabin situated on a 10-acre homestead. We have free-ranging chickens, sheep, Kune Kune pigs, and two livestock guardian dogs that roam freely during the day.
Our livestock guardian dogs are extremely friendly but bark at night to protect the farm animals from predators. We do have black bears and coyotes in the wilderness surrounding our homestead. We cannot allow pets, as we need to ensure the safety of our animals. We are located in a secluded rural neighborhood that is 2 miles down a dirt road off Highway 89.
If you are looking for a secluded, peaceful homestead experience and are comfortable in the wilderness, this is the perfect place for you. We are only 2–3 miles away from McCloud Falls, which offers beautiful hiking trails.
Our property is completely off-grid, so the cabin is solar powered. There is a wood burner for heat, and the water for showering is rainwater collected in a 2,000-gallon water tank. The water is treated with a reverse osmosis system. We supply well water for drinking in a 5-gallon water dispenser. We have a instant water heater so hot water is available for showers and cleaning dishes
The cabin has an attached bathroom with a flushing toilet, sink, and shower. We do not allow baths due to water conservation and a small septic system—showers only. Access to the bathroom is a short walk around the side of the cabin. Towels and wash cloths are provided
We have a 2-burner cooktop for cooking and an under-counter refrigerator for keeping your food fresh and cold. There is running water available for washing dishes.

We originally purchased the 20 acres of untouched land and built our cabin, the "Snug Shack," as a getaway from the city. Fast forward a few years, and 40 acres next door with an abandoned house on the canyon ridge went up for sale. We decided to purchase it and start a homestead there. That 40 acres where we now live was badly abused, and we have been in the process of cleaning up and restoring it. Fortunate for you, the land surrounding the Snug Shack was never abused and is still pristine and beautiful. By camping at the Snug Shack, you help support us in our mission to restore this beautiful place. We named our homestead after the rings of small oak trees that grow here on the ridge.: "Oak Ring Ridge." Shasta View Campsites are part of a former 30,000 acre ranch that was split up into smaller parcels in the 1970's. It is comprised of 5 to 500 acre parcels. All these parcels are homesteads. There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like.
One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks.
After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around.
If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE.
And need I say anything about hiking on Mt. Shasta?

1 night at The Goat Shed
The Goat Shed may be the best Hipcamp experience I've ever had. I slept well on the comfortable bed after an evening nap on the patio. I saw so many creatures: deer, woodpeckers, a small frog, bats, and turkeys. The hosts put so much thought and care into creating this warm and welcoming space, from the lighting, to the patio, to the clear instructions about the shower, to the extra amenities in the space itself. Johana tipped me off to a great swimming beach nearby, and was so communicative throughout. I hope I can make it back soon.

Nora, Scott, Alex, Celeste, everyone is ALWAYS AWESOME. Nora and Scott have created a safe, fun haven for families near and far. This is our second time at the camp. First time was with tent, and we usually tent camp everywhere off grid etc etc. But I thought, hey, I just turned 49,and we've got two boys that are 7 and 10. I need a break with a cabin. 😂😂😂. Place was perfect, and I was a chef before I was a full time photographer, so having cookware around is always a must. At Camp Stoney, most everything is there for you to cook. I brought my stove out of habit, my usual backup camp cookware, and forgot they have a three burner, outdoor Camp Chef Stove there. I NEVER recommend or tell my friends exactly where this place is, when they ask about photos. Because it's OURS. 😂🤣 . I just say, "It's up north near Kosk Creek."
With that said, for a nice romantic outdoor adventure for a couple, or family with kids. This place is awesome. We love what Nora and Scott have created, and I only wish I found it years earlier. We love dogs, and I miss my dog very very very much. He traveled to 29 states with me. The dogs on the ranch will be your best friend, Lobo, Polo and Kaleo. And if your kids like creature hunting, fishing, anything outdoors. You can find it here. See you next year!!!

What a treat! I felt like I was staying in a work of art and love, which it totally is. Everything begged to be felt. This was a treat. Didn't see a soul in 2 days, which I also didn't expect. Easily accessible but felt remote. Not a sound, with the exception of nature doing what she does.
Host explained the workings of everything, and was always available if needed.

My best friend and I needed a short vacation before her wedding plans kicked into to high gear this month. This getaway provided the relaxation we both needed. The views of Mt Shasta from the meadow cannot be beat. We brought the dogs, loved the well stocked kitchen, and slept comfortably in the tree house. Restroom was very clean, and a beautiful stream runs right through the middle of camp with bridges to cross. Camping with style. Do not miss views from the meadow! Amazing stay - felt like camping, very private space. Perfect weather. Basic amenities provided. The host was incredibly accommodating considering our arrival time kept pushing later and later. It is a small space, definitely best for 2 people. We brought our two dogs. They can't get up to the bed, but there's a nice corner on the ground floor to put dog beds. We were there to watch the Perseid meteor shower and BOY was the night sky view amazing from this location. I recommend bringing flashlights/headlamps. Also, we got lost, not realizing the approach to the site would be down an unpaved road. Not the host's fault - the directions provided were incredibly clear. Overall lovely stay and we will be back.

Our stay was more than I had hoped for and just what both of us needed!! Went with my 10 yr old grandson-just the 2 of us-with no sports schedules, play dates or other obligations to juggle so we were FREE. Had never been to that part of CA, so the view of Mt Shasta appearing before us as we approached was as an apparition with great hope. Magnificent and to have a personal view at our place felt so indulgent.
Other reviewers had mentioned some difficulty getting there but Google Maps showed every road, and going the reduced speed requested, it was possible to follow easily.
The kitchen area is so fab to cook in (bigger than my own home!), powerful cooking stove and I loved the dishwashing setup. Once we got it all figured out, we had fabulous meals! Took sling back beach chairs to put on the meadow platform to see the mountain at sunset and even saw shooting stars 2 different evenings! The treehouse was clean, comfortable and sufficient, opening the screened windows allowed the sound of the gurgling stream to sing to us all night. In fact the stream was the highlight for me. The most beautiful picture I took was when my grandson wanted to paint a picture and I set him up alongside the stream to paint the treehouse. He was across the small bridge sitting in the grasses and creating his memory.
This is not an REI curated space, but a personalized natural world where you can disconnect, wander pathways and be renewed in an artists’ canvas.
It was wonderful.
