This was such a great setup! We do not go camping often, so I wanted to book a spot that was between camping and “glamping”. This was that perfect inbetween! It does get pretty cold at night during the fall/winter, so make sure to pack plenty of extra layers and blankets. The campsite was very well taken care of, and there weren’t even any bugs inside the A frames. He even included a propane tank, which was great since we forgot to bring one! We had a lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for camping near LA

Had a great time staying here with my family! Everything was so clean , there was cell service so that was nice ! Also some things to note there is a cooking area just no fridge so bring ice and a cooler! No water heater so the shower was cold but felt nice!!! There is a working toilet on site so that was amazing! Two A frames one with a king size bed which was very comfortable it can get windy throughout the day and night but honestly wasn’t a big deal. There’s a port to charge things and some night lights We brought a portable dvd player so once it got dark we were inside the A frame

The site is so great to go camping with a group. Some of us actually used our own tents, some who couldn’t handle the cold used the a-frames that are available. It was a nice little getaway from the cities and all the noise. The stars are sooo pretty at night. I brought my dogs and it was great, I didn’t have to worry about them at all, granted they are trained. They were wandering around and the site is far away from at street, that I let them do their own thing. The girls liked it so much, one of them is coming back with her family to enjoy the sight again.

A beautiful spot with excellent views, and a pleasant surprise visit from some cattle on our way up to the location. I strongly suggest bringing something that can off-road a bit, it wasn't a rough drive, but I know my sedan would have gotten stuck or struggled toward the end. The provided outhouse is a welcome addition. It's a nice, quiet spot for a good getaway with a killer view of the stars all around.

Super beautiful spot! The site itself is set up very cute and comfortable. It’s off-grid but still very usable. The site is magnificent. Beautiful rock mountains everywhere, gorgeous views, and so secluded. I suggest triple checking directions- the names of the streets on the maps do not coincide with the actual street names. So don’t follow the maps, follow the pictures, there are sand traps everywhere. The dome itself is also charming and all-in-all a total gem of a spot! We loved it.

The property was clean and the views were wonderful. Our dogs loved running around the property. The dome was comfortable and equipped with essentials.. the firepit, cowboy pool, and nearby benches for watching the view was wonderful.

Weekend Trip to The Hilltop Getaway

The owner's instructions were essential! We arrived late evening (not recommended) but were able to still find the one road to the campsite. (Note: I don't believe the road that guests turn off from the main road is marked with a street sign.) This campsite was thoughtfully layed out, magically lit with lights dotted around the property. The site provided needed shade, super charging battery station, evaporative cooler, and cowboy pool that was refreshing and clean. The two water pump porta potties and gas-heated shower in the clean W.C. shed were further camp luxuries. Stargazing was amazing! Plenty of bouldering onsite. We even were able to enjoy a movie on a projector screen from within the tent. Property is not fenced off, but we felt private and safe. Host's response time was good.

1 night at The Hilltop Getaway

The Hilltop was a magical getaway in Lancaster/Palmdale area. My husband and I appreciate that Anita provided many amenities including towels, shampoo, bug spray, a blow horn, games, speakers, heater, cooler, fridge, and more to make us feel safe in a desert area. WiFi and charging outlets are provided. There is a projector screen in the tent if campers are interested in watching movies. The string lights are beautiful at night as well as furniture set up for relaxing, eating, and cooking. It’s easy to sleep at night being that the area is quiet. The pool is clean and nice but the water is on the colder side, suitable for hotter weather. A few cons about the area is that there isn’t too much to do; but if you are interested in an intimate time at the site itself with nice views of the city and small hikes around the rocky areas, this site is great. We did encounter two wild dogs run across the site, but they had scurried away. When we stayed, the shower heater was not working, as well as the heater in the tent. The off-road portion to the campsite was not too long; thus, my husband’s 2WD was just fine to use to get to the site. Hopefully, Anita can have those amenities fixed. Getting to the site was not too difficult as long as you carefully follow directions and not stray off the path. Overall, it was a nice getaway with great amenities and cute decor. I would recommend this site to those interested in a quick, magical getaway.

5 nights at AntFarm LA

i was in town (from maine) for a convention, and wanted to stay somewhere quieter and cheaper than an LA hotel. this was perfect for that, tucked away in the mountains, it felt like a really nice relaxing place to return to at night. the drive was also pretty scenic for an out-of-towner. i didn’t do much exploring of the land, but what i saw was really cool! robin was very accommodating. im a hammock camper, so when i was planning my trip, i was calling around to different campgrounds to confirm whether they had trees i could hammock in. robin switched right over to facetime and showed me the places where i could hang, and even updating his listing so that i could be sure i was booking the right spot. the amenities are what i would’ve expected for what i paid for. the kitchen area was MORE than i expected, but it is certainly rustic. the bathroom was a bit dirty (ants galore on the ant farm!) and incredibly tiny, with no where to set stuff down. the light also didn’t work, so i used my headlamp. the shower was the sketchiest part, it low key felt like i was gonna fall through the floor. don’t expect the ritz, and maybe avoid the shower if you can, and you’ll be fine. 10/10 host 9/10 location 5/10 amenities

Greater Los Angeles area

Campers can stay at a private RV park in the San Fernando Valley near Glendale to be close to the city and all the urban amenities of Los Angeles. Head to the coast to enjoy the pier at Santa Monica, Venice Beach, laid-back Long Beach, or catch some waves at Huntington Beach, and camp overnight near the water at Bolsa Chica State Beach and Crystal Cove State Park.

Malibu and Santa Monica

Head west to the Santa Monica Mountains to escape the urban bustle, and explore the rugged terrain and Hollywood history while camping overnight at Malibu Creek State Park. Enjoy glamorous Malibu and the sun and surf at Malibu Lagoon State Beach, or combine beach and camping at Point Mugu State Park and Leo Carillo State Park. Further up the coast, enjoy the American Riviera at Santa Barbara, and camp near a beach at Carpinteria State Beach.

National Forests

The Angeles National Forest sits just northeast of Glendale. Enjoy hiking, horseback riding, waterfall chasing, wildlife viewing, and choose from more than 50 campgrounds with tent sites, RV sites, and cabins. Further east, the San Bernardino National Forest has more rugged wilderness, peaks, forests, and popular lakes like Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, plus plenty of camping options. For even more wilderness camping options, head to Los Padres National Forest or Cleveland National Forest.

When to go

Summers are the most popular time for visiting Glendale. The weather is ideal for outdoor activities, especially those involving water, along the coast, and at the many area beaches. Visit in the spring for dazzling wildflower displays, especially at Deukmejian Wilderness Park. Crowds are also smaller in the spring, fall, and winter, which offers generally mild weather. Visit in September for the Glendale Arts and Music Festival.
