Chad and Monica moved from the metro phoenix area to Willcox Arizona in the summer of 2015 with the goal of starting a vineyard and winery and living a simpler life in the country. Since moving to Willcox they have cleared 50 acres and planted over 6000 grape vines with more to plant coming soon. They fell in love with the spectacular views, the wildlife and the people. With spectacular sunrises and sunsets and clear night skies its a beautiful place to live and visit. With a working vineyard and winery you can walk from your camp and buy a bottle of wine or just enjoy a glass on the large deck located at the tasting room that over looks the grain field and silos, orchards and vineyards. There is incredible history that surrounds the area including: Cochise and Geronimo's battle grounds against the US Calvery, the Butterfield Stagecoach routes and pony express trails, The battle of the OK Coral with the Earp Brothers nearby. Birds and Barrels Vineyards is located within one of the only two American Viticulture Areas(AVA's) in Arizona. With over a dozen other wineries within a short drive, it makes for a enjoyable experience with family and friends.Learn more about this land:Located in the heart of Arizona Wine Country, the campsites over look the vineyard to the west and is surrounded by orchards and grain fields. Bakers Akers is located in what used to be Nebblett, New Mexico but is now Virden, New Mexico. The one room Nebblett school house was located on this property. Virden was settled by the Mormons when they were ran out of old Mexico by Poncho Villa. Kit Carson took this route guiding General Kearney and the Army of the west to California during the Mexican American war. It is now being discussed that Coronado may have come through this area also. The farm was used for breeding and training race horses. It is now a cow/calf operation. Learn more about this land: Camp on the Gila River amongst the century old Cottonwoods and Mulberry trees, with Bermuda grass carpeting. Plenty of shade to pitch a tent or park under. Wildlife abounds with deer, beaver, turkeys, javelina, and a large variety of birds. Located on a eighty acre cattle ranch. Quiet with great views of stars at night and majestic mountains in the day. The camp grounds are located beyond the cattle pastures and next to the Gila River. Fire pits available and plenty of wood to gather for burning. Eleven miles from the historic town of a Duncan Arizona, filled with little markets, craft store, antique shop, rock shop, and home town restaurants, if any needs arise or an itch needs scratching. With prior notice and extra fees a New Mexican dutch-oven dinner and hayride can be included.

This is just what we were looking for. We are not big RV park people. We prefer to boondock when we can. This checked all the boxes for us as we are self sufficient and just need a safe place to park and sleep. We are gone all day exploring so we don't need a lot of amenities. This is no frills, but with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, vineyards and quiet. The property owners are very nice, have 2 friendly dogs, some chickens & turkeys. RV spots are pretty level and include a picnic table and grill. For us it was perfect.

Easy quick within a few hours booking Met lovely Jessie and his assistants ( we’ll get dogs and cows and a pony. Led to our camping area, perfect had some benches and plenty of space. Noise didn’t seemed to. Other anyone as we chuckled around dinner Checked our then, small river the morning, had dip and swim Not much fishing going on but it was nice Not much to fish but fun good morning walk to get ya line wet and a hot coffee to finish Jesse was so kind to gift us some noice banana bread Will spend spots here in the future

We stayed one night and all was well. We were met by our host as we arrived and given instructions to the campsites. We were able to find a level site and had a quiet and peaceful night. After we set up our trailer we had dinner at Tirrito Farm. It’s about three miles away and has an excellent setting and food, definitely recommended as well.

Weekend Trip to Birds and Barrels Vineyards

Willcox is such a great place to visit and chad/monica's space was a great way to explore! I stayed there and enjoyed both the wine country and Chiricahua National Monument. Space is exactly as listed, so its definitely best if you're self-contained/self-resourced. And visiting the tasting room is a MUST!

We were met by a very kind man, Jesse I believe, who led us to our spot. Our daughter had so much fun playing with everything. Is as adults absolutely enjoyed the large fire and peace we felt. The sunset was amazing! Great place for the family!

Myself, my husband and our three dogs enjoyed camping on Chad/Monica's land near the vineyards. It was easy to find and we got there in time to do some wine tasting. The two turkeys came over to welcome us and checked on us periodically. Lots of history and sightseeing in the area.
