Bakers Akers is located in what used to be Nebblett, New Mexico but is now Virden, New Mexico. The one room Nebblett school house was located on this property. Virden was settled by the Mormons when they were ran out of old Mexico by Poncho Villa. Kit Carson took this route guiding General Kearney and the Army of the west to California during the Mexican American war. It is now being discussed that Coronado may have come through this area also. The farm was used for breeding and training race horses. It is now a cow/calf operation. Learn more about this land: Camp on the Gila River amongst the century old Cottonwoods and Mulberry trees, with Bermuda grass carpeting. Plenty of shade to pitch a tent or park under. Wildlife abounds with deer, beaver, turkeys, javelina, and a large variety of birds. Located on a eighty acre cattle ranch. Quiet with great views of stars at night and majestic mountains in the day. The camp grounds are located beyond the cattle pastures and next to the Gila River. Fire pits available and plenty of wood to gather for burning. Eleven miles from the historic town of a Duncan Arizona, filled with little markets, craft store, antique shop, rock shop, and home town restaurants, if any needs arise or an itch needs scratching. With prior notice and extra fees a New Mexican dutch-oven dinner and hayride can be included.

Bakers Akers 76 Franklin rd. Virden NM. 5 min. / 2.7 Mile drive east from HWY 70 down Franklin Rd. (opposite side of the river from the village of Virden) Tranquil riverside campground located beyond cattle pastures and next to the Gila River on a 5.5 acre section of the ranch that we affectionately call "The Bottoms". Three campsites are nestled amongst century old cottonwood and mulberry trees. All three are within sight of each other and the closest sites within 70 yards of each other. Wake up to the gentle sounds of morning birdsong and sip your coffee at the flowing waters of the Gila River. Spend your days relaxing peacefully under a lush canopy of trees offering plenty of shaded spots for a hammock or lay out a picnic blanket on the bermuda grass carpeted grounds. A short walk up to the treeline offers expansive views of our pastures and the majestic mountains beyond. Sunsets here are a magical time to witness nature’s unmatched beauty and heed the quiet call to slow down, if only for a moment. Warm spring and summertime days give way to cool nights perfect for unwinding and sharing stories by campfire light. An almost endless supply of wood keeps the fire going into the wee hours. Native plant life abounds and is available to forage for a variety of edible and medicinal purposes. The area is host to a number of wildlife such as deer, beaver, turkey, javelina, and a large variety of birds. Campgrounds are located on an eighty acre operating cattle ranch owned by the Baker family. Our farm store is open every Saturday and offers fresh eggs and milk, homemade butter and yogurt along with freeze-dried goods, homemade preserves, in-season fruits and vegetables along with other homemade goods. Authentic New Mexico camp cooking is available by special request. On the 2nd Friday and Saturday of each month we host a Pizza & Movie Night for campers and locals. Join us up at the farm for a projector movie, homemade pizza and ice cream. Purchase artisan pizza, made to order in our outdoor pizza oven and farm fresh ice cream churned in our old fashioned ice cream maker. The Town: Eleven miles from the farm is the town of Duncan Arizona. Amenities include: ice cream/sandwich shop, antique shop, rock shop, dine in Restaurant, public library, public pool (summertime only) feed & hardware store w/propane, post office, bar, Family Dollar, gas station and a public park with playground equipment.

Easy quick within a few hours booking Met lovely Jessie and his assistants ( we’ll get dogs and cows and a pony. Led to our camping area, perfect had some benches and plenty of space. Noise didn’t seemed to. Other anyone as we chuckled around dinner Checked our then, small river the morning, had dip and swim Not much fishing going on but it was nice Not much to fish but fun good morning walk to get ya line wet and a hot coffee to finish Jesse was so kind to gift us some noice banana bread Will spend spots here in the future

Elderberry
We were met by a very kind man, Jesse I believe, who led us to our spot. Our daughter had so much fun playing with everything. Is as adults absolutely enjoyed the large fire and peace we felt. The sunset was amazing! Great place for the family!

The Bottoms
We loved staying in the Bottoms and enjoyed the short walk to the Gila River. Jesse and family were very kind and it’s hard to find so much green and shade anywhere else nearby.

Excellent host and a wonderful family. Bakers Makers is a must for your camping adventure. Beautiful area and a river where you could drop in a trout line as well.

The landscape here was incredibly beautiful and the hosts were very kind. They had free ice and water at the entrence which was a nice-to-have as well. I would highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for some peace and nature :)

This was a nice place to camp for two nights. Set amongst large cottonwood trees, the Gila River is just a short walk away. We had dogs and kids and it was the perfect place to just hang out and play. We towed a 20' trailer in--tight fit through some farm gates but no issue when taking it slow. Thanks to Jesse and family for making it available!

Camp here! My wife and I had another site fall through and Jesse had us set up within 2 hours. This is an incredibly private site, it's just you and whoever you're camping with. It's also a wonderful location for astrophotography. We hope to have the chance to stay again.

We had a blast. Didn’t see any other people, played on the zip line ane walked down to the water. All of it was beautiful and Jesse was a great host

We loved our night at The Bottoms. It was so quiet and private. The family was so welcoming and escorted us down to our private spot.beautiful sunset, lovely concert of birds singing.they offered water and ice and there was a very adequate Port-a-potty just a short walk away. Our dog was so happy to run free.

Jesse’s ranch is so cool! You’ll be one with the cattle. There are beautiful shade trees snd plenty of space to make your camp. We came with our dog and she loved the easy run around. You can hear the coyote and have privacy on the back of Jesse’s land. Jesse was welcoming and we enjoyed a great chat before departing. We recommend this place!

Quick stop area where it is needed!

Jesse was very gracious and accepted our request at the very last minute! We were passing through the area and needed a place. Cool location with trees, lots of wood for a great fire. Farm road passage which was a little tight but away from the farm. Could use a table.

My friend and I had a nice stay in this beautiful area! The host was very helpful and kind. We enjoyed the trees and greenery surrounding our campsite, as well as the friendly cows who came to visit us. Would visit again, and recommend for others!

We had a great time at Baker's acres. The campground was the perfect place for my kids to explore and be out in nature. The big cottonwood trees provided good shade, and the swing and zipline were fun additions to the area. The river was really close by, which was just what we wanted. Jesse went out if his way to make sure we were taken care of and comfortable, even letting us borrow a hammer to hammer in the stakes on our tent. The dutch oven meal his wife made us was fabulous. I would highly recommend this campground and will definitely use it again the next time we come to this area.

Good things was there was a swing and very small Zipline. However the place was filled with cow dung and insects. We end up not staying at the place.

Jesse is a fabulous host. Very accommodating. Beautiful property with lots of shady spots to camp. There are lawn games, table and chairs, and a small zip line that my son loved! We even got a visit from the cows! We were the only campers that night so it was extremely private. I would definitely come back again! The one note is there is cow manure but that’s the charm of staying on a cattle ranch! Plus, there is a shovel on the property to move some cow patties.

The place was delightfully quiet with lots of shade, lots of available firewood, and easy access to the river. We literally saw not one other human for 2 1/2 days (2 other sites were both vacant), but we did see lots of awesome birds and heard many coyotes at night. Jesse was accommodating and friendly , the place was as described. Definitely recommended if you’re looking for quiet solitude and riparian environment.

Beautiful place
The Bottoms on The Gila
Took me and my girls. Jesse was very polite and attentive. I really couldn’t have asked for more. Everything is as described. It was very comfortable. I totally forgot about mosquitos since were by the river 😬so sorry for all the girls screaming the first night haha. If your forgetting anything it’s a 10 min drive down the road to Family dollar. Space for the kids to play and trees to climb.

This site was a mixed bag, and not really what we expected. We had searched for “Silver City” on the Hipcamp app, and on the app this looked like it was very close to there, when in reality it was over an hour away, which was frustrating (we wanted to be by Silver City) but not the fault of the host. Pros: pretty private. Other campers were staying nearby, but not very close. It felt like we had a lot of space to ourselves. Definitely more than we would have had if we stayed at a regular campground. We were also able to see a lot of stars, which was nice. The host was friendly, though we never met and only communicated via messaging. Cons: Not a very pretty campsite during the day. Not a big fan of the area in general. Lots of cow poop all over the campsite, and it smelled. To be fair, we did sign up to stay at a cattle ranch. But it was a bit much. We have camped at places where cows pass through, and never dealt with this much poop. We had to drive through thorny bushes, which sounded like they scratched the side of our rental (luckily they didn’t, but it made me nervous).

A remote campsite among a shady grove of desert trees. Amenities are minimal, but there is access to a porto, potable water and ice. The host was also very responsive and kind. Would definitely return.

Awesome site in cottonwood bosque along hula river. Amazing stargazing, birdwatching. Authentic Southwestern ranching environment with great areas for campfires. Good road down to campsite. Cool, private setting.

Great spot, good folks, sweet family, nice place! Refreshingly hospitable. If you owned it, you’d keep it a secret, nuff said. P.S., ask nice for ice...and when someone advertises a Dutch Oven dinner....you say yes!

A great place to camp. Very private and quiet. Nice pumpkin patch with a swing for kids. The river was dry when we were there but this provided an awesome hike.

Fun camping under the trees

We had a lot of fun at this site. The big trees provided essential shade and helped with the heat. Plus, they are beautiful and fun to climb on. The swing was an added bonus for our kids. Note that you're camping in a cow pasture, so there are cows around and also their waste. It wasn't a problem for us, although my younger kid was a little nervous about the bigger cows until the moved on. There were also some flies but nothing too bad. Overall, we had a great night there. Would camp at this site again.

Rustic Cattle Ranch

I didn’t have much time to explore but Jesse’s ranch is very beautiful! Just spent one night on a two day road trip. Keep in mind this is a working cattle ranch, so lots of cows around! I car camped at site 3, after arriving late. Jesse met me upon arrival and directed me to the site. Very easy to get to off of I-10. Lordsburg and Denton AZ are both close by for essentials. Would recommend!

Extremely private and beautiful!

The host was very friendly and responsive and showed us right to our campsite when we arrived. It was very private and we felt very safe. We saw a beautiful sunset and literally had cows looking at our bumper in the morning. Our son loved it so much being in the pasture with the cows all night. Oh and our campsite had a swing in the tree and our son love that as well!

This private campground was exactly what we needed! Lots of privacy, yards away from the Gila River, and beautiful trees to give us shade and keep is safe from the rain. It was such a great place!

This is an amazing location. We got there after dark and Jesse came right out and got us all lined up at the site. When morning came it was so pretty. We were able to let the kids run around and gather wood and just be kids. We will definitely be back.
