A pretty special place to camp among the junipers and pinion pines on top of Howard Mesa. Enjoy amazing distant views by day, unbelievable night skies, and gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. You can also take in awesome views of the peaks to the east and even see the north wall of the Grand Canyon from the property.
There are currently three secluded camp spots, each hundreds of feet away from the other. No services are currently provided other than a designated stone firepit at each site, campers must bring everything they need and leave no trace. Please use the guest trash can located at the main gate. Normally accessible by any passenger vehicle, but significant rain may create enough mud to require 4WD.
The property is exceptionally quiet and clean, far away from city noise and pollution. It sits on the border of the Kaibab National Forest, where guests can walk through untouched old-growth forest. Numerous elk visit the mesa in late summer, mule deer are common, and there's lots of other wildlife to see.
This is a peaceful place to camp away from everything and still be able to visit numerous nearby attractions of every kind.

This is the place to be for Big Dark Skies. Horizon to horizon views, no neighbors, and no big cities nearby. As the listings say, also no amenities, and the dirt road is rutted (but not very long). It is very pleasant if you come prepared. I got some great milkyway photos with a DSLR and deep space photos through a telescope. There is just a hint of sky glow from Valle and from Flagstaff but it is very localized on the horizon.

We loved Luciano's place! It is on the primitive side, so it was perfect for stargazing! Both him and his wife were extremely helpful and welcoming. The location is perfect for our trip as we were going through to Nevada and wanted to see the Grand Canyon which was about an hour away. We look forward to visiting again in the future!

Spent one night on Luciano's peaceful and beautiful property. Luciano met us on arrival and gave us a quick tour before letting us settle in. A picnic table and a fire pit and a nice piece of level ground surrounded by trees provided the perfect place to camp and unwind after a long day of driving. And the night sky was one of the most brilliant we've ever seen. Highly recommend this site and the host!

Luis's spot was a beautiful stop on the start of a long week of national park visiting! The field was clear and level. It was a little challenging to navigate to the site itself, as we arrived around 10 pm and it was quite dark, but both Apple and Google Maps brought us to the right spot. Would recommend a vehicle with decent ground clearance to get to the site - my 4Runner did great. Overall, would definitely book again! Thanks!

We loved staying at Highland. The hosts have really put so much effort into sharing the beautiful land they're on with others, including water and power. The showers were super clean and comfortable and the beds super clean and cozy as well. Keep in mind the temperature extremes - I think the tent heated up too quickly in the morning/early afternoon and it got very cold at night. Fortunately the tent has a heated mattress that kept us warm!
Finally, try to book a stay during a cleared sky new moon night. You won't forget the sight of the Milky Way from here.

I enjoyed my stay on Luis's land. It was private, peaceful and offered panoramic views. We stayed during a week of rain showers so a 4-Wheel or AWD would be recommended. Luis was kind, helpful and always available for questions. The GPS led me to the area, and Luis's directions helped me find the specific spot. I would definitely stay again :)

This campsite was very unique and indeed a peaceful experience. Although it was very secluded, it still felt close and comfortable somehow. The location is great for getting away from the traffic and crowds that may be at other nearby campistes, and provides a quite, open area with much freedom and wonderful view of the stars at night. It was very cool the be camping in the middle of the desert and feel so alone but not isolated. Luis was a great host and ensured that our arrival, stay, and departure went smoothly and were comfortable.

Absolutely magical property! You are nestled, secluded in the Arizona dessert! The host, Luis, is very communicative and kind! He made the experience special. I was able to find the property easily with Google maps and Luis’s description! While on the property I star gazed and saw an elk! Very magical! My dogs also loved having all that space! Luis mentioned some neighbor dogs. They did try to run under the car driving in, but never came to the property or bothered my dogs!
Some notes - the road leading there is very bad. Uneven bumpy dirt roads, so as noted in Luis description it’s important to have a big vehicle or 4wd. I don’t have 4wd, but was able to make it in a van. (Make sure you have everything secure because things will fly. RIP my plates 😂😂) Definitely worth it though!
