It was great! Incredibly gracious host, beautiful spot right next to the river, and fairly close to Telluride! Kinda sucked we had to haul our food up and down to the car but that's not anyone's fault, I'm just lazy haha.

Jaq and camp host Steve were great. They were able to update us on fire restrictions and Steve checked in several times during our stay to make sure we were having a good experience. Our site had a wooden platform and beautiful views of the Dolores River. Really a unique spot and we very much enjoying our stay!

Our camping site was epic! We loved the built-up platforms. We used them for our communal open air tent and for cooking. The sites were clean and well kept. Each site is directly on the river’s edge and even though it’s not far from the road, you don’t hear the road noise because of the river. Our hosts Jaq and Steve were SO friendly and accommodating. They are continuing to add amenities to the each of the sites. We played in the river, hiked and just enjoyed being in the mountains next to a river. There’s a terrific trail leading into the mountain town of Rico. We rode our bikes on the trail into town, had a special dinner at The Prospector, and rode our bikes back after dinner. We are already planning our next trip here in a few weeks. We will keep coming back!

My sister and I were traveling from Flagstaff, AZ and were so excited for a getaway. Jacki reached out before our stay introducing herself, and asking if we needed any recommendations. I responded that we were excited and could use any recommendations.
Jacki did not respond.

After reading reviews, I made sure we would arrive before dark- so we drove 6 hours and made it to Rico.

When we got to the town about an hour out, I tried calling and texting Jacki- because there were two different addresses pulling up and I wanted to be sure. We got no response.

Upon arrival to the town, we kept looking for the cemetery. We found the cemetery, but were EXTREMELY confused because there were absolutely no markers indicating a turn off or property? We drove back and forth multiple times, and passed many enterances for other sites that were marked. None of the Lazy Rooster or the address given. Finally, we pulled over and asked a local for directions. She was very confused but tried helping as much as she could.
We eventually found the turn off- but was not marked at all. The entrance was hidden. (we missed it multiple times when we’d leave the site to explore and come back)

Once arriving, we were instructed that site numbers were at the bottom of the drive.
This was not the case.
So we drove around the property, trying to find the site we reserved. We could not find ANY markings like instructed.
I called and texted Jacki, and got no response. I reached out on Hiccamp, and also received no response.
At this point I just pulled into a site.

Our stay had beautiful views. But wish we would’ve been alerted there were free roaming livestock that would come up to our site.
While there, it was beautiful- however the next morning, we were woken up by a runner who ran into our site and allowed her dog to come up into our site and take my dog’s bone and run away.
We thought it was a one off, until 3 more sets of joggers/hikers were on the trail and continued to stand at the end of our camp site and stare or fully walk up to our site.
We had booked for 2 nights, but ended up leaving after the first night and driving to the town of Dolores to a different site where the host was so helpful and present.
the site had beautiful views, but the lack of privacy (and strangers walking onto our site) and the complete silence from the host when we needed help was very disheartening.

If I were you, I’d save your money and book at a different site.

The site was not easy to find when arriving in the dark. There was no Ranch marked at the entrance, just the address number. The site was right next to the river which made it nice and private. I couldn't find the site no marking so just take the one that fits my RV. The bathroom was clean, but watch out for mice when going to the bathroom at night. There was some constructions tent buildings not yet completed. Overall it was a night place for privacy. My dog loves hunting. He had a great time also. Will come back again.

This campsite more than exceeded our expectations! It is secluded with views of the forest and creek, but still accessible easily from a main road. Our favorite part was being right on the creek and having amazing views from our tent, plus plenty of space for 2-3 tents in the family sites. The ports potty was clean and well kept and there was a dumpster right next to the exit. Of note, it is located just outside Rico CO which is about 30 mins from Telluride and 1.5 from Ouray. Both very doable in a day trip!
We highly recommend this site and will recommend it to our friends traveling through the area! We will be back back too :)
