Excellent non commercial camping.

This campsite is excellent. For the overlanding type, it bridges the gap between primitive/dispersed camping and a commercially maintained camp sites. The good: the mountain is beautiful with tons of scenery, fishing, and mountain things to do. With 4WD, we were able to find one of two large secluded fields towards the top of the mountain. We ended up staying in a large open field surrounded by trees with only three people in our group staying there. The two top shelves from the old strip mine were perfect for our 4WD vehicles and offroad campers (I would not suggest venturing up there unless you have a 4wd and offroad camper or tent). We had the whole field to ourselves (very peaceful). We felt like we were primitive camping until we came down to the main site for the bathhouse or firewood. The campground has 1 bath house with a washer/dryer, shower, and toilet. It was clean and got the job done. John also provided plenty of firewood in a self serve pile next to the main road after you enter the campground. John is very friendly, offered us some advice on fun places to go and great places to fish. You can tell John cares about his property, the campers, and growing this campsite. Our three man group couldn't quit talking about how secluded we felt in the upper section. With everything, there is a downside (very little here). There is only 1 bathhouse that serves a single person at a time, but there was never an issue getting in immediately when needed. Great place to camp!

Private site. Lots of permanent campers around. Good price. Low cell signal on all major carriers. Host provided wifi, but seemed to disconnect randomly. Reasonably priced. Host and neighbors were welcoming. New River Gorge, 45 minutes away. Access road gravel and bumpy.

I like most campers, backed into a site. That had great Mountain View’s. Sites and grounds very well taken care of. Owners both greeted and checked in during the stay. I would recommend.

Amazing spot John was very welcoming the entire time we felt at home. There’s 250 acres of nothing but stunning views. There’s a ton of stuff to do right there skeet shooting a cute little putting green there are five ponds perfect for fishing. The little touches aren’t to be missed either the cute on site shower house with laundry *chefs kiss the bird houses the cute I assume from family named roads and alleys even a 55 miles according an hours sign…. If you’re looking for a place to get away and forget the world this is the place!!!! 10 out of 10 recommend

Overall, nice campground and for our travels, ideal place. Washroom was inclusive of shower and laundry facilities. Only the one, so made for high traffic. Separate facilities for men and women would be a plus for future.

I had a great time during my 4th of July weekend! John was a fantastic host and I was able to check out his entire property on a sxs. There was plenty of RC hookups and tent camping. Beautiful views, quiet and lots to do! Definitely recommend.

Such a relaxed atmosphere at Beaver Lakes from the host - John. Ponds to fish in, roads to 4-wheel on, free firewood, full hookups for a reasonable rate - lots of great stuff here. It's a long-ish gravel road coming to the camp sites - but the road is in great shape, our 30' Class A had no problem. Stayed twice as long as we had planned - really enjoyed it here.

We went searching for fall and found a gem of a man lace to stay! If you blink you will miss the sign and entrance IMMEDIATELY after it before the small post office. It is find your own site but we were given a great recommendation for where to go so our pup could have his own space. Amazing views, full hookups, super easy to navigate with our 21 foot RV. It is definitely off the beaten track a bit, the driveway alone will make you question if you are in the right spot initially (drive to the left of the water when heading in, but it ended up being exactly our kind of spot. 45 mins to the gorge, roughly the same to Babcock (you really must do both). We will absolutely stay again if/when we decide to visit WV. John was a great host!

We were traveling from home in PA to Nashville and wanted to get back to nature along the way. I spotted Beaver Lake Campground online and it looked pretty inviting. Well, our experience there was just awesome, starting with meeting John, the owner. His hospitality is second to none, and he offered us way more amenities than our reservation allowed.
Our site on top of his mountain property was breathtaking and the cool evening breeze perfect. Sundown was gorgeous! Everything about our experience was superb. It is worth a few miles’ drive off the highway to spend a day or two at Beaver Lake! Thanks for everything, John!

My first time using HipCamp for camping instead of a state park and I loved it!. My stay at Beaver Lakes Campgrounds were way better than what I had expected. I had texted John earlier in the week saying what time I thought I was going to be there and ended up texting him that day letting him know we were not going to arrive until 1030 Friday night. The directions were good and luckily I had given him my eta as I lost cell phone service about 10 minutes prior to arrival. He took us up to the cabin and let us stay there for the night, so we didn't have to unpack and set up a tent in the middle of the night. The cabin was clean and comfortable and most of all according to my partner not a tent! We woke up the next morning to enjoy coffee and breakfast on the porch. The view and privacy was awesome. No fireworks to be heard that would scare our dog which is one of the main reasons that I wanted to avoid the state parks. We were able to go sight-seeing, hiking around Summersville Lake, the New River bridge and the campground which was the best part. We were able to let the dog off leash and walk a few miles with only seeing 2-3 people working.
John was what I called "salt of the earth" people. He went above and beyond for us. I highly recommend coming here if you want to escape from the normal and tent camp. I like the fact that we weren't put with other campers as we wanted solitude!
I will be coming back to do more hiking and kayaking and plan on staying here.

My husband and I enjoyed our camping experience on John’s land! John was really friendly. He greeted us, showed us around, and even restocked our firewood for us. There were lots of sites to choose from all with lovely views of fields and the surrounding mountains. Perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing and private retreat into nature. The area was also accessible to New River Gorge and Summersville Lake to adventure for the day. The stars on a clear night were stunning. We would definitely recommend this place!
